Is Nadal now becoming more bitter as he gets older?

Mike Sams

He never made excuses for losses before. After every loss he would say "He just unbelievable player....he play much better than me today."

Now, when the discussion is regarding Djokovic, Nadal has started becoming more and more like Federer with his excuses. He's pulling the injury card after every loss. In his last interview he brought up a pulled hamstring and heatstroke in two different losses.

What happened to the whole "I accept losing with the same calm as the winning?"

I'm fearing that if Djokovic himself hears some of the bitter excuses coming out of Nadal's mouth in these interviews lately, it's going to inspire Djokovic even more when they meet in the future.

Yeah, hes getting old and grumpy

For IW he "started playing badly" after full control.
For Miami he was "heat stroke"
Madrid is yet unknown
Rome he lacked "extra bit"
Wimbledon is yet unknown
USO was tired hamstring, except 3rd set

To sum it up he did not give Djoko any credit at all, which was a first, as far as I remember.

Why is that the passion for the game and intensity was there at RG, but not before and after?

BTW seems like the consensus here is that if Djoko is not the same Nadal will win everything next year. I disagree, I think Nadal is there for the taking in 2012. There are half a dozen players who can take him out before he gets to Djoko.

I don't think he is getting bitter, he has always been bitter.

What is becoming harder is continuing with the fake persona, it can't be easy constantly hiding your true thoughts and telling lies.

The nadal is incapable of thoughts more abstract than eat/drink/pick butt.
Anything else he says, comes from Tio.

Where did you take this from?

Most Nadal fans here wonder whether Nadal will win anything of note in 2012 regardless of what Djokovic does. Heck, even Nadal says that he doesn't put much stock in AO 2012 but that he will try to play into form for clay season 2012(he specifically said April). Translation: I don't think I have what it takes to beat these guys now but hopefully I will by the time clay rolls around.

Nadal took the biggest hit on clay in 2011 and that's where he wants to make things right again.

Oh please. He is jaded because he went from always beating Nole in finals(all surfaces) to always losing to Nole in finals(all surfaces). This turn around has left him bitter.

Not true! Nadal was very complimentary of Nole even in defeat. It wasn't until after the Madrid win and Nole's camp less than classy out-takes did Nadal start being a little less congratlatory towards Nole.

Of course losing constantly can make anyone upset, but i think it was more of a reaction to the opposing camp's reaction.

Using the word xenophobic in support of the Balkans

Lacking insight and history much!

whatever it might be it certainly is not "acting like a Self Righteous generalizing dooshbag who thinks he is on such a moral higher ground that he can pass judgment onthe people of a coupe of nations he probably never even visited!!!"

and by the way... Dumarse... it's not "in support of the balkans"!! it's "in criticising your random acts of bigotry"! you know... the kind of acts that Serena and Venus Williams suffer day in, day out in this forum and that you rightfully so criticise!!!!

if Rafa is really so humble, he shouldn't be bitter now when he's losing, turns out that this bad fellow Novak has taken candy from the big boy Rafa and now he's crying, the problem is Novak doesn't have any plans of giving them back

Ah yes, jumping to extremes. I love this one, it's classic.

Nadal can be either the humble saint like figure who can do no wrong(as he is in the eyes of some delusional Nadal fans) or the eats children for breakfast/cheater/faker(keeping up a fake persona for six years no less) of the haters.

Very entertaining I must say.

The comments on the video are funny cause of ****iness but this stands out because it has a painful truth attached to it:

"Funny enough, people think of tennis as a classy sport, if only they knew how many of the fans were biased, trashy *******s.
It's hard enough to lose, but especially when it's the same person repeatedly. It HURTS. It's not about ego or being a sore loser it's about being HUMAN."

First off, your overly defensive reaction is telling; insecure much?

Secondly, its not my self-righteous generalizations. I expressly said how other Europeans feel about the Balkan region, which i gleaned from friends and acquaintances here in the states that are from Europe, namely France and the UK. And no, I have never visited the region - and probably would not want to... However, given the history, including recent history -- y'all got issues...

Thirdly, my criticisms were not 'random' acts of bigotry! I was referring to specific things Nole and or his camp have done that i find classless and certainly reinforce certain stereotypes (the whole twitter gun pic is a prime example)!!!

So your Venus/Serena comparison is not apt. If criticism of either is based solely on race then i would speak out and call it racists. But, if it regarding something specific, like Serena's threatening of a line person from 09, i would not call that racists. Serena certainly deserved criticism for that, just like (IMO) Nole deserved criticism for the gun pic!!!

Rafa does look like a sore loser... However, Djoker comes across as a sore winner. Rafa seemed respectful in his wins by not over celebrating pre-handshake. When you see how Nole makes Rafa wait at the net for the handshake while he celebrates (especially the Rome final) it's off putting. I probably wouldn't be a graceful loser either in light of that... It might be a black eye instead of a handshake he got from me. :)

That said, if I were to be on court with any of these guys, I would probably celebrate like Nole if my racket touched any of their shots. I'd be like this guy:

wait wait, how is Nole a sore winner. Do you know how long the dude has waited for these wins and what it means to him. IF he falls to the floor after winner, the loser will have to wait a bit.

At the same time, Roger and Rafa are so used to winning that you can't any longer expect them to go running up the stands. Even they fall to the ground often.

The Nole dislike/hatred on this forum is quite puzzling.

It was a big win for Nole because not only it was the final, but the first time he ever beat Nadal on clay. They have every right to celebrate. If Nadal can't take it, he's a sore loser.

When Djokovic is at his best, Nadal struggles. Djokovic has always been a real problem for Nadal on every surface. Check out their Queen's 2008, Hamburg 2008, Madrid 2009, Olympics 2008 matches. Tight matches and just a little extra something would've enabled Djokovic to take the victories. It seemed to come down to stamina and belief.

And it was Nadal that had that extra stamina and belief. Before 2011, Djokovic never had that something extra against Nadal as all 7 of his pre-2011 wins over Nadal were in 2 straight sets where he blew Nadal off the court. In their 2011 matches, match by match, the situation changed.

Indian Wells: Djokovic beats Nadal in a final, and from a set down after Nadal's first serve percentage collapses after the first set

Miami: Djokovic is fitter than Nadal late in the third set, when the match was in the balance

Madrid: Djokovic beats Nadal on clay

Rome: Djokovic beats a more determined Nadal on clay

Wimbledon: Djokovic beats Nadal in a major

US Open: Djokovic again beats Nadal in a major, despite being injured

Yeah, that's the point. The little 'extra something' is being used in a more or less satirical manner, as it's cropping up a lot recently.

Somebody said earlier on that Nadal is insinuating that if he is at his best that Nole can't win. Well, I don't believe that, in an interview recently he said that he might win or lose the matches against Nole but he must at least be willing to give it that little 'extra something' and maintain a high cruise level of tennis playing ability, so that where he was extending himself to - for example in the fourth set of the US Open 2011 Final - can be sustained without feeling as if one is reaching out of themselves.

I think basically the important thing is that one should always be willing to find that little extra something as it guarantees a greater chance of victory; mind-blowing concept.

Rome is the one that stands out most. Nadal was SUPPOSED to win this match. He had everything going for him. Perfect surface for his game(slow clay, great for topspin), easy draw, and best of all Djokovic was struggling and barely got through Murray in a long drawn out match the day prior. Rome was Nadal's domain. One of his top 3 best tournaments.
Djokovic smashed Nadal in the Rome final in straight sets. Not even Nadal fans or Djokovic fans saw that coming.

It's because he has become Nole's vitch.

Nad's bitterness has nothing to do with Nole's entourage being a plethora of dooshbags.

If Nadal doesn't like Nole's celebration, then find a way to beat him. He can also choose not play Madrid if it bothers him that much. LOL
