I dream of J011y: Dawn of the Epic GPOAT

Jolly is the true GPOAT. And that is coming from the GPOAT so it must mean something more than an old bag of Cortex you found in your laundered jean jacket pocket.

All of us died a little when he exited TT. Some cried, some left with him. Some stayed and remained GOATed to the cause of random mouthfuls of crystalized Basalt flavoured truths.

I dream of J011y.

TT is just not the same.

well, he kinda, 'kinda' was exposed....... I wouldnt say as a fraud but maybe just exaggerating somewhat about his level (but who doesnt, I thought ALL OF US here were 4.5+...........)

anyways, the '17.99 oz head heavy 75 sq inch 135mph serving legend' was demystified.....

I can't claim I read all his posts, but he used a 90" (ncode or k90), not a 75". did he really say 135 mph ????

and oh, only nadalfan89 is 4.5 (self rated).

Frankly, I couldn't have cared less whether he was an awesome player or just another dude who loved tennis. I don't recall ever seeing him attack anyone and he brought some fun discussions and entertainment to these boards.

In the holiday spirit, I thought he was more like Santa Claus....it didn't matter if he was entirely real or completely made up...either way how could you not like him?

I love Jo11y. When I joined the boooords I thought he was an open level player who would shatter my racquets over his knee and laugh while I sat there with a confused stare on my face.

When I found out he was a lowly 4.5ish player like the rest of us, I was a little let down.

But then I found out he drank Miller Lite and liked to bash balls around like myself and he once again rose to GPOAT status.

The fact that he had people thinking he was open level player and giving those same peeps advice rubbed them the wrong way.

His highly edited videos were very entertaining, but nerve was there a video of him playing nay points. As soon as someone brought out his records it was putting him at 4.0 level the same level where he claimed trophies were simply paperweights. Yet there was never any record of him actually winning a 4.0 tourney to begin with.

Also walkovers and byes do not count as wins.

Lol sounds a bit like we are eulogizing the guy......

He drove from LI to CT , met and hit with J, he has that slightly crabby look on his face ,but very willing to hit and asked you if there were shots you wanted to practice. Biggest regret is not buying him Pepe's pizza.

Polansky is a 4.5, J is 4.15, whatever............. J is a cool guy.

And where did Jolly go?

It's hard to keep up with all the drama . . . .

I have no clue what a GPOAT is either.

Jolly went to that big tennis court in the sky from the sounds of people talking about him around here. Lave TalkTennis and a little part of your soul dies it seems.

I kept up with the drama and am sad that I did. Still to this day it makes me shudder at the amount of creepiness that had happened.

I wonder what happened to a few posters that just vanished but what can you do.

Yes, there are many posters here who posts many posts about their tennis matches, and leagues, and wants praises for every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears they shed as they made their ways up the NTRP rankings... say from 3.0 to 3.5. Don't you know that this is American and if say a middle aged woman got promoted from 3.0 to 3.5, we should all sing her praises. For Jolly to say that NTRP tournaments trophy are nothing is so disrespectful.

I just want to add that I am one of the few men to have been honored with Most Improved Soph-Frosh Boy's High School Tennis. Congressional Medal of Honor holders should salute me, but sadly they don't. Fox and CNN should jointly do an hour special on me during a special extended length half-time to be aired globally on all channels during the Super Bowl but they don't.

Rated NTRP 1.0 based on having never faced "real" competition.

the sprint of slight of hand lives on tho.. i've been giving string lessons in TWMAC. not saying i'm a greatest stringer ever but lets say there are few things i'd change about priority one stringing especially when they serviced roger at his prime.

i'd give out more tips, but that's normally a charged service..

I thought JoelDali WAS Jolly?

Jolly kind of did himself in, with the breaking Luxilon strings in just a couple of minutes, high level Open Player, each 3.0 player needs to take 84 racquets to each match, etc. That said, as others have stated, he was always pleasant and very positive.

I saw j011y play at NTC, playing the mens open. I didn't stay for long to watch his match as I was there supporting someone else. He was playing some muscular teenager with a mohawk, using a babolat pure storm old red and white edition. J011y sported the new Wilson soon to be released 2012 January. The match started a little...rough I would say. J011y made some mistakes, especially on the backhand side, didn't seem to be clicking. I thought his serve was solid, but not well placed. I'm sure he won as the kid he was playing didn't seem to be on the same level. But you never know right? never judge a book by its cover.

I'm curious J011y did you win? I don't know your real name so I can't look it up. I know your match was yesterday around 5pm. I was too into supporting someone else, very intense match about 3-4 courts down from you.

One thing I will say, straight from the get-go j011y got 1 short ball and absolutely thrashed a forehand. The man is fearless, you would think he doesn't feel nerves if you didn't see his backhand. You can really hear the loud thud from his racquet when he completed his big windup, I spotted his kevlar/lux setup.

It's good to see that hes still playing tournaments, even after leaving these boards.

I'm Assuming if GHOAT = Greatest Hat of all Time

GPOAT = Greatest Poster of all Time

I also did not notice what happened to Raiden, I had met him once before at Circle D I think. Then I saw him last year and found out he was actually on my mixed team in Culumbia.

Just got tired of Posting I guess. But if you care about his well being he is doing fine.

When you talk about winning trophies like you do it all the time and then there is actually no record of winning one, some poeple are going to get a little mad about being strung along. That is all.

I'll tell you what we will schedulae a match you and I. I will pull a typical TWMAC bail and then you can say you beat me and increase your winning percentage at the same time. Then you can say you beat some real comp.

Deal?

Uh... You referring to me? I never claimed to have even played a single USTA "real" match hence my wonderful 1.0 rating.

As far as stringing people along, you mean like when Supe2Dresq said he was 3.5 and his buddy Drakulie said that Supe was the second best player on the board below Tony Lars? You mean those two pillars of honesty, and integrity?

It does seem the norm that TW MAC members bail or fail (to live up to their words) but that's OK. I won't count count your no shows. My lifetime match play record remains 0-0.

I have never seen you overstate your or go along with some kinda hype but the legend of the epic GPOAT was just that.

0-0 means you have enver lost and if you have never lost your winning percentage is 1.000. But Ill let you be 1-0 since we agreed to play and I bailed and get the victory by default so you are now 1-0 lifetime.

I told the story long ago in another historically significant thread of how Jolly came out for a Ringer league match and we played a strong former National ranked DIV 1 guy and a low end 4.5er like me and Jolly hit the most insane epic swinging volley GOAT shot I've ever seen. Beyond NTRP. Beyond paper weights, Basalt compounds and Internet tennis arguments. I will never forget it. We won the match and our group won over a strong team.

Jolly is immortal.

If his name is what I think it is then Yea jolly won his 1st match as it was a bye from the 256 round right into the 128 round. The kid you saw him playing beat him 2-2 the kid went on the lose the next round to the guy that made the SF. And the kid did win the L1 huntington 18 singles championships in August whatever that is, maybe the kid is a future College force I dont know. But Jolly went 1-1 so thats pretty good.

Obvioulsy if what Im looking at aint him then I have a terrible memory for names, and apologize.

This is tourney website with brackets and results. Go to mens open single draw and I think in the 90-128 bracket range is his match.

No, a "real" match would have me doing number 1 and 2 on my shorts, dripping down my legs, turing my socks brown, green and purple. No, I have to earn my "real" match victory which will probably never happen sigh.

I hang out at Sportime, watching Womens Senior 2.5 leagus matches, hoping that some of their glory would rub off on me. They would noticed me and tell their friends that I'm that loser 1.0 and when the Director is not looking they would kick me and push me down the stairs.

The Director takes pity on me, he gives me a very important job. Every hour, I climb to the bell tower and ring the bell, one for each hour.

Oh,

I was under the impression that up North walkovers and byes counted as victories.

2.5 Seniors can get pretty tuff, they usally have pretty sweet volley battles if you video tape it and play it back at 3x speed :)

Im pretty sure they could beat me in a Volley Battle as I cannont volley at all in the slightest.

Time Keeper is a crucial job, If i was running the place I would require you ring the bell loud everyhour and every fifteen miutes give it a little tippy tap so people have a better idea what time it is. But we all appreciate your contribution keep up the good work. A little kicking down the stairs is probably needed to keep thier spirits up. Think of it as you helping someone feel better, so once again you are providing a very important service.

Aha I saw that a while ago too but never did a mention of it, but his buds obviously can't stop talking about Mr Jolly.

But to restate what you wrote, J lost enough at 5.0 that he dropped to 4.5, maybe next year 4.0? Still not doing too well...
