How nice would it be if tenniswarehouse or maybe few enthusiasts here can organize an yearly event for all tenniswarehouse forum members, where all keyboard warriors can change the weapon of choice to a tennis racquet and introduce them selves by putting a face and a game next to those avatars and user names. I bet 90% of the "know it all" users won't even show up.
...aaah just daydreaming.

Years ago there was talk of a get together but TW did not want to participate or organize it for some reason. I m unsure of the details.

I think it would be fun to take like a week camp or a long weekend and meet somewhere once a year and get a large group together to play.

yeah if TW were smart they would be all over the idea. Just imagine getting couple of hundred people together, all of them playing tennis, they could sell tons of stuff

That does sound like a great idea to me. It would be nice to get a big turnout for that. I would bring my laptop and a video camera. By the end of the day, I would be able to assess everybody's NTRP rating, and also keep people updated on here who couldn't make the trip. Heck, I might even do a little commentary. "Oh my. That was a delicious backhand from gindyo!"

I would win this without much difficulty. I played college tennis and not too many people can say that in this forum, i think. Most of the people here seem like 3.5 to 4.0 to me.

Why? These days people prefer to shop online.

Yea, sure, if you don't mind seeing 110 mph serves in the corners about 1 inch from the line on consistant basis. and 2-handed backhand blowing by you with angles similar to Nalbandian can draw up.

guys like this are my regular pray

What college is this? Your profile says a few satellite tournaments...

yeah but, but when you buy a new tennis raqcuet you like to try it first, right? and shipping back and forth is not fun.

How many can you try in a day or two and who knows how many courts will be available for things other than matches? Seems much easier to get several demos shipped from TW and try it at your own pace with you own court reservations. Serious players need lots of time to decide on a new frame.

Most of the recreational tennis players (70% or so according to the USTA) are 3.5, so it is to be expected.

If you were a college tennis player, you would be in the top 1 percentile here.

It would be a money losing deal for TW to co-operate in something like this, even if they hosted it in S. Cal. in their own back yard because no one would show up. You honestly think people would put their internet armchair tennis status/prestige/dignity whatever you wanna call it manufactured from this message board on the line? Not gonna happen.

Yeah, this has been talked about before, would be well up for it but nobody was prepared to pay my ludicrous expenses!

Still, if somebody on the forum has a black AmEx then i'm still game for it!

cheers

Also, who else can set aside a weekend solely for this unless they are retired?

Personally, I wouldn't really care if I won or lost matches. I know there are folks here who could bagel me without working up a sweat. Nevertheless it would be great opportunity to hook up with some great players and coaches and glean some tips and areas to work on. I'm also happy to hit with players who aren't as good as me. If I can be helpful to them then everyone wins, right?

I don't see any way the money part works, which kills the deal. It can work on a local level, like when Lock and Roll Tennis got together with some folks in a park in Socal, hit some balls, and had a picnic.

Ash, you could be the official coach of the whole thing. Setup a court and give clinics to players (theres your expenses paid and then some). Not sure if they'll agree about that private jet with stewardesses in lingerie though.

There are guitar expos happening all the time. Fan of vintage guitars getting together, booking a hall for 2 days, bringing their prized possessions and meeting up with old friends. There are North American Expos, European Expos and so on. Besides, all this can happen in 1 day. Have a day long tournament, maybe round robin depending on how many confirm and sign up. Charge an entry fee so you know the people that sign up are serious about it.

The first year might be a dud, might not but once word gets out it'll improve.

I don't think it can happen either, cant imagine too many people with hard earned pro/legend/GOAT statuses under their name put that on the line. How on the world would they be critiquing other people's technique after that :)

gindyo, I was being sarcastic but there is some truth to that however the days after the tournament would be hilarious on the forum as it would go something like this:

Someone posts a video of their strokes and asks for advice.

Poster A replies with his thorough assessment and right below it Poster B would start tearing him apart saying he doesn't deserve to be giving advice on here, that he saw his game at the TW Tournament and has no business giving anyone advice.

I am not sure that would be such a bad thing. I mean we should all be aware who we are taking advice from right? I hope that everyone considers who I am before accepting any advice from me, and I certainly am aware of who on here is a teaching pro with videos posted and who is just an internet legend.

If one wants to critique one must be ready to be critiqued himself. the solution of that problem is very simple - put a video of yourself hitting in your signature, like tennis_balla has done. Now, after seeing his video I would gladly take an advice from him, because I know he has been there and done that.

EDIT: and after reading his blog I would definitely take an advise from Ash_Smith ;)

Members do get together in various parts of the country, or at least they have in the past. I've hit with a member, though I didn't tell him who I was - got to retain that anonymity.

There used to be a thread on a bunch from Florida that would hit. Also, Jolly used to arrange to hit with members in the NY/Long Island region.

It isn't surprising that most people who post here are probably 3.5s as that is probably the most common rating among the serious weekend warrior crowd. We do occasionally get touring pros posting here, and reputedly Pistol Pete once posted and he'd still take you out Nostradamus, without any difficulty.

I work at a hotel in Atlantic City NJ, and if we can get a bigger group together I could probably get a discounted group rate and organize something in the spring. But as I said, I dont think there will be a good turn out. or maybe I am wrong?

People tend to correlate advices with play levels, but is it really meaningful since coaches on the pro level are never better than the pros who are being coached? I dunno. Having an eye for the technicals seems not the same thing as actually being able to do them.

One the same token, TT activities and actual tennis playing are never the same thing. I wouldn't be on TT when I could play and vice versa. LOL. They're different hobbies and fun.

Is it me or does this whole idea scream for a web site that allows people to challenge each other for a money match? Golf, tennis, etc. sportsMoneymatchchallenge.com

I challenge any tw poster to a singles match! Even at 50lbs over fighting wt., and with a rolled ankle, I'll still take out most of the guys on here.

Well the way I see it : if you have never tried and confirmed something yourself you are not qualified to teach it. Exception would be someone with quite a bit of years of experience behind him who along the way has ruined a few pupils before he got it right.

I'd enjoy playing anyone off these forums! It'd be fun I would imagine.

I only have seen one other poster from my province and he's at a much higher level then I am, so I don't think it would work out well! LOL! :)
