Re: RDS Mid, this from only about 1-2 hours of hitting: nice frame, honest stringbed, an easier-to-wield mid. Don't recall anything that particularly stood out about it/overly impressed me, but it had a good crisp feel. For what it's worth, a regular hitting partner of mine plays with the RDS MP, hits a mean ball, and always has an itch to switch but never finds anything he likes better.

How is the power level of the Melbourne compared to the 320?
Tough call but I would say the Tfight has a tad bit more pop (splitting hairs) than the Melbourne. To be fair I would still need to dial in a proper tension as the Melbourne does indeed string up very tight so a playtest at lower tension would be required to answer that question correctly . I think Meaghan and Gads had mentioned before that it is actually very similar in power to the 6.1 95 which is very comparable to the T-fight imo.

Interesting bag check - yes we do have similar tastes in racquets. I still haven't tried the Melbourne or 320, but I do love the 325. Probably my fav all time - just looking for something a little easier (400t). Let me know how your 400t works out for you.

Yeah loving the 400 Tour at the moment. Will let you know how it works out. If you love the 325 but are looking for something a little easier than you may want to check out the 320. Slightly less weight and a more open string pattern make it a little more forgiving. I played with the 325 for awhile as well and actually preferred the 320 . It is a little easier the wield than the 325

The wilson hits so big though..god. Hit with it tonight real relaxed. Didnt go for much on shots, but the beauty was how controlled this racquet is even on 30-60% powered shots.

Sine it is colder here, i am going to try the iontec which i received..interested in seeing how that goes.

Also had a crazy idea to give black magic one more go. It pockets the ball so well that it could be another sleeper string in this racquet. But so far tour bite has the best performance of all of them.

This racquet is perfect to try strings in..it is suited for every setup possible. I bet gut feels ridiculous in it..lol.

Comfort seemed fine for me, but it is a frame that's more on the rigid side of the spectrum. Never hit a C10 Pro; the reports of its softness always steered me away since I like a crisper feel.

In seriousness, these frames are pretty fantastic. I've just been feeling an itch, and with my birthday money, thinking of getting an RDS001 to spin around. The biggest thing that bothers me about the C10 pro is grip size. Sometimes it feels great, but as i'm trying to hold a true semiwestern, it's feeling like the bevel is too small. Maybe I'm better off spending my money on sending em into racquet max for some attiva pallets.

The Yonex grip is much rounder so that should help. Ive hit with the rds001 but I was making comparisons with the previous model the rdx500 which is a much more comfortable racket, plush compared to the stiffer 001. The rdx fits well with your c10pro imo. Low powered but with the right set up.....great for 1hbh I found, something about the hexagonal beam. Hard to get hold of these days tho. I tried a couple of months back and got some ridiculous offers.

Esteemed Racketaholics of The World,:)

Played a set today with the N95 and the PD+ Team, and though I'd never advise playing with frames so very different in this manner (you'll be hearing about my serve issues shortly), it was an interesting few hours.

The PD+ Team was a bit unwieldy and imprecise - but OMG... having spent a few months toiling with the Exo 100, this racket serves MASSIVE!... just huge power and kick... basically, for someone like me who naturally isn't the strongest, most effective server out there, this is a huge attraction. But the negatives were quite pronounced for me.

Re the N95, everytime I return to this frame I instantly notice the pinpoint accuracy and control, solidness, and nice maneuverability (the headlight balance, I presume.) It doesn't serve as big as the PD+, although I struggled a bit with the N95 serve-wise down to just how different it is to the Bab, which I played the 1st set with. I lost 1st set 6-3 with the Bab, and won 2nd set 6-3 with the Wilson. Another feature with the N was how on those pull the trigger, quick reaction shots and DTL and angle stuff, time and again I was nailing it with the N. One thing though, I would like to be more effective from the b-line and on serve. Anyhow, a great morning and so nice to be playing for the 1st time since before Xmas.

Quick Q... anyone played both the N95 and BLX 95 care to share their thoughts on how they match up re the serve?

Well I can't say for the N, but the BLX is one of the best serving racquets I have used. Yes, the PD is a handcannon, especially on flats, but it lacks the incredible precision of the BLX on groundies as you noted.

Personally what got me into the BLX originally was the serve. I was stunned at how consistent you can get in a groove with this thing. I still struggle with service breakdowns at times, but with the Wilson I find that I can dial up a big serve when I need, plus it is so precise that I can place it anywhere.

I think the PD is awesome for awe inspiring power, but most of the PD users I have played, lean on that and usually miss a ton of their first serves as a result. The BLX still brings serious boom on serve, but the more HL balance, massive spin and pinpoint control makes it a top serving stick for me.

I think this is a really important point PP makes, high percentage of solid first serves will win you matches. I found the n95 and the k version to be really solid on serve, not the hugest but up there imo and they also bring other atributes the likes of the PD doesnt have. My Melbourne is very similar in that case, served today, heavy conditions, tired legs from too much food and wine but I could always count on the mid powered slider to win me a lot of points on the deuce side which gave me a lot of opportunities to hit the one up the middle. It wasnt big by any means, just good solid serving, won 6-4 against a really good player who very rarely misses.

Even those that lean on their first serve a lot and get it in can have problems as their opponents get used to their serves. Best example would be Mr. Roddick.

mid powered sliders don't get the job done against most players...PP included. got to dial it up to the 6.0+ level and check out the look on their faces as it blows by them. ;)

Had the red strung up earlier this week and have been using it. Wow, what a great string.

Power, control are on par with TB and slightly more feel than TB. It doesn't have that elusive explosion like TB but that's not a problem.

I've got another 5 sets on my TB reel but I might be making the change. $75 for a Hex reel and $155 for TB.

6.1 has the effortless weight behind the ball, if you do your footwork, you will be rewarded.

There was a high level junior on the court next to me this am. He had a 6.1 BLX and knew what to do with it ;)

Its relative bc, my mid powered sliders are still faster than most players first serves, they land half way up the service line from some height (see below) and move away. Think michael stitch. Even federer wouldn't get them!

haha...you look to be somewhat tall and have a nice extension on your serve. being not so tall i tend to up the mph to compensate. think last time out hitting with PP, hit a few middish (deeper than mid) that weren't as big as flat serves but still more than respectable. PP can thump the service return if he gets a chance.

btw - how tall are u?

I'm just under 6' 4.......I have some advantage when you are two feet off the ground, with arm extended and racket length, prob point of contact is about 12 foot high, two or threw feet in court. Its my main weapon and with the added weight in the hoop it can go some.

I think what I was trying to say its the ability to have variation on serve it doesn't always have to be big. I have a high % slider first serve out wide, I use it like nadal uses his in the adcourt, I can hit an ace off it a lot, it makes your opponent creep and it leaves the T serve open.

Against 6.0+ players their ability to anticipate and their athleticism mean that heat is not always gonna beat them unless you hit the lines, so it becomes like a chess game, so able to move the ball in the air and change your pace is very important.

For those who are not blessed with pace this becomes even more important.

got the pace and sometimes the placement (when in focus). being an old guy, got to have weapons cause most competition around here are much younger and way more fit. just putting the ball in play...might as well hit with the seniors.

Holy shiitake mushrooms PED, this is positively groundbreaking news :) ... I predict a few of us RH TB-heads will be swarming all over this string as of now. In fact my earlier outing today with the N95 w/TB today reinforced my previous opinions of the N95/TB match up. Put another way, I, for one, would sacrifice a bit of explosiveness for a bit more feel.

PED: Contrasting the red Hex vs. black Hex? Did the red feel stiffer? TIA.

Actually, the black felt stiffer. Either way, the black just didn't feel "right". Couldn't put my finger on it but I really didn't like the black. Was really surprised to how much better the Red was since I'd mentally given up on it. I was just trying to burn through some excess inventory ;)

Gad's was on here a few posts back talking about black string and how he doesn't like it. I agree.

The Red Hex was really nice: great BITE on the ball yet still soft. I've not had any arm issues with TB at all but the Hex is even easier on my arm and it was only high 40's temp wise the last few days so that wasn't a factor with the Hex. Def going to give it some thought when the TB is gone.

Arrrgh, I broke down and, succumbing to this 6.1 lovefest going on around here, finally ordered a brand spanking new 6.1 95 16x18 to try out. I blame that on PP mainly. Also Ross ;). Anyways, it should be here sometime middle of next week... (just when my late christmas present to myself, a PS BLX 95, is scheduled to arrive, lol). Talk about an addiction. I typically don't care much for Wilson racquets, but this one, or rather these two, I got to try.

In the meantime I'm working on perfecting my Pure Drive setup. I'm nearly there. I can feel it. Gotta be ready for when the Black Drives arrive. Arrrgh again.

I felt like I could hardly move my legs today, well for a few games, kept hitting the weirdest shots from close to my body cos I couldn't get my arse to move. After a few games I started moving better and therefore hitting better but it was tough going.

Will do, Ross. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on these mystical frames soon...

Both Wilsons will be strung with VS Touch 16, full bed, 25kg. I will probably try both stock at first, but I can see myself adding a leather grip and some lead to the PS95 in the very near future. That's why I ordered a reel of lead to go with it 8). The 6.1 will probably just stay as is if it arrives fairly on spec, it's the new 2012 model btw.

My preferred Pure Drive setup right now is 2.5g under the bumper (two narrow 12.5cm strips – ups the SW to the level of the PD+), Custom Damp (with insert) and Babolat leather grip w/ Tourna Original. Strung with VS Touch 25/24.5kg. I ordered a couple of sets of new grommets from TWE before fitting the lead and incidentally these didn't have the typical holes/cutouts. The weight difference between both version is basically negligible though, less than 1g (~0.7g on my scale).

Sorry for the delay Ross,
One word. Power.

Unlike the K95 (which I despised) the BLX has that comfortable feel offered by the n95 yet is much more solid.

The power is noticeable on every shot and yes.. ( it's ok 'cause you got one on the way ;) ) Ross!!!.... it serves better than the n95 (for me anyways). What I like especially is that when using an eastern grip on kickers.. there is plenty of pace.. and maybe... just maybe... more spin than the n95 (at least the balls are hopping up higher). I don't even slow my swing down on 2nd serves.. just toss the ball at 12.. extreme eatsern.. and the BLX offers noticeable 'oomph'... not that the n95 doesn't... but it's addictive with the BLX. Flat serves are as expected (addictive) but I judge a stick on serve by the 2nd kicker.

A nice surprise with the BLX, if you decide to concentrate on placement more than pace... not only do you get outstanding directional control but are pleasently rewarded with some nice power as well... again.. in comparison to the n95... the BLX goes to eleven.

I guess for me, whether I'm striking a flat serve with a continental.. a kicker with an eastern.. or a forehand with a western.. the BLX's efficiency in terms of power potential just simply... stays... at ... eleven.

Plus, the added stiffness adds a touch more spin when compared to the n95.

What up Klem,

Things are good, my daughter just turned 3 months and she might be a lefty, which would be awesome for when she's tearin up the WTA.

Glad to hear you're still liking the 6.1s. Have to say he BLX's sound sweet, but I feel about my N's the way you probably felt about your weapon in that bad ass pic you posted.

My fam really out did them selves re the presents. I was quite surprised tbh. The best was the $200 worth of court passes they all chipped in to yet, god know I need to get rid of this Holliday jiggle ASAP.

Take it easy man, and don't work so late. :)

Apparent to me yesterday with the N95 (and reminiscent of my experiences with the YTPP and PSTGT actually), was that the frame gives me an edge (certainly over the Exo 100 I was playing with until very recently, or indeed the PD+ Team I hit a set with yesterday too) as re the more instinctive, improvised, or off the cuff way of playing.

Where has pyro kid been? I was thinking that his pstgts could be well served with just some weight in the buttcap. That stock balance could be why everyone finds them a bit sluggish. Probably the only stick i can think of that plays somewhat like the blx..but just doesn't have that same heavy spin as the 16x18.

On a side nite, the salmon iontec 1.20 is in my racquet at 49#s. Bouncing the ball off it is reminding me of silverstring..but i am reading that mad dog was atour bite guy and is saying the spin on this is close..thats real intriguing to me.

felt my ears burning and lo and behold, here's PP talking about me. ;)

can't say i was a rabid TB guy, but yeah, i liked the crazy spin i was getting from it, altho i was never satisfied w/ the feel of it and touch on volleys, half volleys and drop shots. it's in the area of feel and touch that iontec is just off the hook while still providing very close to TB levels of spin.

interested in reading what you think!

oh...you may have to experiment w/ tension. 49#s might be too low for IT if u were stringing TB at the same tension. TB for me is stiffer and i was stringing it ~5 lbs lower than IT. i was doing IT 1.25 at 52/49 in my BC20 and 47/44 for TB. in my PS85, i had IT 1.25 at 47.5/46 and w/ IT 1.20 feel i need to take the tension up 1-2 lbs.
