So it's Official! Raonic is a monster! What can we expect from him now?

There are no excuses now. He's 21 years old. Nadal and Djokovic won Slams at 19-20 years of age. Del Potro won the USO at 20. Which means Raonic is expected to start making runs at the Slams immediately! His game is good enough. His serve is incredible. Big forehand. Good touch.

Is he ready to beat a top 3 player and win any of the AO, Wimbledon or USO this year? :)

He's definitely looking amazing, if he keeps healthy and injury free I wouldn't be surprised if he made a great run in the slams, particularly at SW19 and USO.

I could see him making the semis of a slam this year perhaps. Maybe get into the top 10.

I dont think Isn..oh I mean Raonic will win a slam. He'll probably cause some upsets to some top seeds who are off their game, like a Soderling/Ferrer/last legs Federer over 5 sets.

But, you never know...couple of upsets at Wimbledon, could quietly make his way through the draw, bump into the annual Murray Wimbledon SF and trump him, then he's by the time you know it he's into the final of Wimbledon with Nadal unable to even return a second serve. Hour or two player, new Wimbledon champion.

How about clay?

Nah, he might get a 250/500 title, a few strong showings at MS events. Dunno about FO, he could very well enjoy it considering he stated he likes clay and we all know how fast that surface played last year (although it was contributed to a few factors). I believe Raonic will start his domination after the clay swing. No joke.

Based his body type and track record of injuries, I think he's going to be a Philippoussis-type who is a chronic disabled list waiting to happen which is going to shortcut any run at greatness.

What is this track record of injuries of which you speak? :???:

he will have to start moving better and sure up his ground game to beat Murray Federer Nadal or especially Djokovic. He won't beat them without being able to break serve, because they will break serve in a three set match.

A semi would actually be a great result seeing that last year Djokovic and Murray made at least the semis of all 4 slams and Nadal and Federer were in at least the semis of 3 out of 4. Federer is the most likely to miss a semi spot, followed by Murray I think.

I think he had hip surgery but not sure about anything else. Pretty sure he has had a few other issues.

he's dangerous but majors are tough to come by. he served at what, 75% or 80% against tipsarevic, and still needed 3 breakers?

he's got some serious firepower but the backhand is erratic and he'll never be a brilliant defender. he seems like a good kid though, and it's fun to watch somebody plying some 90's style tennis on tour.

He won't crack the top 10.

Milos is 10x as talented as Isner from the back of the court and has a huge. Milos is more than just a serve and he still has a lot of time to improve.

Truth is, he still looks like a colt! I think he still needs to grow into those massive and defined legs of his and long almost lanky arms.

Its amazing that he has enough coordination to handle all of those lengthy moving parts and produce a very good ground game, not to mention a fantastic serve!

If he focuses on adding strength and little more definition to his upper body and core he will become better with his defense, shots on the run, return, and improvisation. Add a biting slice to all that, and he will be a real force to reckon with!

So this dreaming is back again huh, lets see if he can stay healthy for more than 2 months first. Him and delpo should have a contest on who gets injured more often.

I reckon he's going to pull off a big upset at one of the majors this year...

Yeah, he could be the next big-hitter to take Federer out in the quarters of Wimbledon (hopefully not!).

A semifinal run would be amazing for him. He's definitely got the game to go far at either Wimbledon or USO, so hopefully we'll see Raonic do big things in the next two years. If he gets a SF or better at a slam this year, he's going to be a legitimate contender next year.

In general, it would be nice to see a Canadian player rise up the rankings and make a name for himself!

Raonic vs Federer in the first round of the AO.:) Can Federer handle the serve.

I would expect Federer to get the ball back, and Federer to win the baseline exchanges. Federer is good at blocking returns off big serves and then the 2nd serve would make the difference, they get into rallies off 2nd serves and I would expect Federer to take advantage. For Raonic to progress to top 5 as a lot of people are expecting, he needs to improve his movement and ground game considerably.

Raonic is good but he struggled to barely sneak a win through against Tipsy. Tipsy and Raonic are a tier below Ferrer/Berdych/(in-form)Soderling/(healthy)DelPotro. Raonic is at least 2 tiers below Djokovic/Nadal. Raonics backhand is lacking and it will take more then a year to close that weakness. His UE count is high when he gets into rallies with more experienced players.

Lots of injuries.

Hip surgery in your early 20's does not bode well for a pro athlete, irrespective of his recent good run.

This lots of injuries is nonsense. He hasn't had a track record of injuries. His hip surgery was a result of that unfortunate fall on slippery grass at Wimbledon which was just plain bad luck, not anything that he did wrong. Yes, his shoulder got tired last spring but he had played an awful lot of tennis. Don't forget at this time last year he was still going through qualifying even to get into tournaments.

I like your post DRII. :) Yes, he does look like an ungainly colt but those very long legs take him to where he needs to get to pretty quickly.

Unlike Delpo, Raonic has never cracked the top 10 or won a Major (or even come close).

I can see a large section of hte nadal fan base moving over without a qualm.

Nah...the Raonic threads are going to be taken over by hundreds of thousands of Canadians who have abandoned hockey for tennis. Leaf fans will say "WHY have I wasted my time waiting for a Leaf win when I could have benn following Nestor playing doubles, and now Raonic. Holy ...."

Yes I was very impressed but lets see how he goes to a five setter. His game is very strenuous and those serves can be exhausting as well as the mental bit of keeping it all together

I think getting in the top 10 would be a good goal for him for now. I dont see him ready to win a major for another couple years anyway.

If he remains injury free it would be impossible for him not to finish the year in the top 10 considering that after Wimbledon he has zero points to defend the rest of the year

I don't consider him much of a Canadian. Serbians and Montenegrans are nice enough people, but they don't ever consider themselves American or Canadian. They are too proud.

That being said, he is a very talented player, who has good leg development, and that hip injury could have been a bit of a freak accident.

He most assuredly will be a top ten or top five player in my opinion. He is too hand talented and serve talented for that not to happen. And he competes pretty well, he doesn't seem to get to flustered.

He hits freely and should be good to go for a long time. His handlers seem to know what they are doing with his body type as well.

Its too bad he looks like such a dork though.

I presume then that you think that that the only real Canadians are aboriginals aka anishinabek (in the Ojibwe language).

And please tell us what being a great tennis player has to do with the player's appearance.

(ps everyone of us Canadians are immigrants except for native poeple. The same applies to the USA)

You must be aboriginal ...what nation are you from?

I was actually born in Canada. I'm definitely not an immigrant. However, my ancestors did immigrate to Canada, just like the ancestors of aboriginals did. Milos was born in Serbia and immigrated to Canada. You know what he meant.

Let me guess, you're either first generation or FOB.

Agreed. I definitely see him finishing the year in the top 10 if he can stay injury free....
