Is Djokovic changing the game??

Players have to take the fitness to a new level so in that way he's changing the game.
But his basic game is just a matter of keeping the ball in play with very good power off of both wings, maintaining consistency.
The ROS is very good and court movement is about the best.

Just a lot of things done very well, everything was there awhile back but he improved almost all of them.

Then the mental area is a huge improvement, he doesn't let anything derail his game, this area impressed me the most but comes from having great fitness.
He doesn't have to worry about managing his energy through the match and can push hard as he wants all match if necessary.

Djokovic was a weezer with a penchant for retirements. Now thanks to the shake weight he is the fittest guy on tour? You are blind if you cannot see he is blatantly PEDing

Yes, with the level of tennis he plays. The big part of it is his on-court stretching and ability to slide on all surfaces.

John McEnroe, yesterday:

"He's much more elastic. I noticed years ago, how the flexible he was and how hard he worked on it. I thought to myself, 'This is going to pay off.' I didn't realise to what extent and advantage this would be, but it's certainly proven to be. I think it's something that has to be considered very seriously by other players, because there is lost more balls being hit with an open stance, off the back foot."

Ralph is PEDing harder than Barry Bonds and Lance Armstrong doing the tango at Alberto Contadors bachelor party. It doesnt shock me.

I laughed at this, but it could have been better. There are so many silly names for Lance and Contador. There's Lance Pharmstrong, Dopedstrong, Fraudstrong. Contador's best is Contadoper.

Neither Nole, nor Rafa, nor Murray would get to all those balls if courts and balls were as fast as they were in the 90s.

In a really fast hard court (or fast low-skidding-indoor-carpet), with small and fast balls, no matter how quick you are, you are not going to get to flat powerful shots to the open court.

What have actually changed is the slowness of courts and specially balls (fluffier, bigger, slower balls).

It reminds me a lot of the 70s european very slow red clay and playing with wood: nobody could hit a winner past Borg.

But back then it was only 1/3 of the season, now it is almost the entire season with this slowness as hell conditions everywhere.

I think Djokovic will not be considered officially an all courter until he at least makes a final at Roland Garros. He's yet to beat a Federer or Nadal in the clay Slam.

Nope, till he develops a good net game+transitional game he can't be considered an allcourter.

Ugh. Lets go over this again.

All-surface player is someone who is "equally" successful on all surfaces.

Think Agassi.

All-court player is someone who utilizes every possible part of the court.

Think... Oh, wait.

Being successful on all surfaces isn't as relevant as it was back in the 90s due to court homogenization.

Djokovic is PEDing out of his mind. Thats it. History is not going to be kind to him.
It is probably quite true. For years he used to get tired easy. Now, after a downward spiral, he rebounds to new heights? I don't know, I'm very suspicious. I wouldn't be surprised if Fed and Nadal aren't on something, but I think Novak has something better.

You are posting out of your mind. Gluten allergy can be very limiting, ask anyone who has had it. It causes severe breathing problems to many. Once you remove gluten, one is able to breathe and compete normally.

An "All Courter" has nothing to do with what surface your playing on son. Rather if you can play baseline, serve and volley, chip and charge, lob, drop shot etc.

Tactic variety in essence.

That is your lesson for today son.

Since he has supposedly removed the gluten and can now breathe normally, why does he still bug his eyes out and suck air like a fish out of water on court? If the source of his breathing trouble has been eliminated he shouldn't have those problems anymore so why does he still do it?

I don't think he's changing the game at all. If anything, Nadal changed the game more, by moving his clay court game, to hard and grass courts.

This was probably facilitated by organizers slowing down the courts, at the request of stupid fans and the media, claiming that the serve and volley game (at Wimbledon) was boring.

I'm hoping that there will be a paradigm shift again, and we'll see courts speeding up, so that players with more aggressive games have a greater chance of an upset.

Right now, it's really difficult for the big hitters to pull off an upset in a best of 5.

I do it all of the time. It helps you get more oxygen in your body, slows your heart rate down faster and helps keep you relaxed.

Its one of the reasons why his stamina is so good.

I don't know whether you are being serious or just pulling my leg. It's not like you'll never run out of breath. Maybe he was pushed beyond what he trained for. Or maybe he has not worked on his endurance much in the off-season --- may have been partying or resting.

Or maybe Uncle Toni slipped in some gluten into his soup or banana -- i think that's it ... Joker should look out for breadcrumbs :D

Having just watched the final of the OZ open、I couldn't help but wonder if I was witnessing another turning point in the game. Everyone mentions how the advances in strings and racquets have produced today's power game, but looking at Djokovic outlast (outrun? out-retrieve?) Nadal the other day, despite the 31 shot rallies at 110%, I wondered if he isn't taking the game in another dimension? Can the stroke-making genius of Federer keep up as is against the type of player who gets into the position for everything in time to get everything back with more than a casual slice? You can see why Federer's head drops when the rallies and matches get longer against these guys.

Love Federer, but saw his days numbered in last weekends final.
Is tennis turning a new corner??

Definitely. It was already very boring a few years ago, but with him, it is even more.

No,it's not the same as being out of breath for FrankenCvac. He did the bug eyed fish out of water thing for years, and if it was being caused by the gluten,he should be breathing more normally instead of looking as distressed as he does. Sorry, but the gluten free diet is nothing more than a red herring. Same as his "egg". I don't buy any of it,and never have.

You can tell the people that play tennis here and who do not.

Anyone who does knows what these guys are doing physically is pretty much impossible at that duration without assistance. Also, if you talk to anyone who has tour experience candidly they will tell you there are all kinds of things people take..mental focus enhancements..etc. Baseball players who barely sweat take PEDs, but you really think tennis players do not?

lol.

Did Magneto invent tennis as well? Come on,people. Cvac is great and all,but he is not revolutionizing the game. There were others before him that played a very similar style, and there will be some after him as well. If not for Dr.Igor people would still be calling him a one slam wonder. The hype about him is really becoming nauseating.

YOU.....are nauseating. Seriously.

I've never read more miserable posts from a single person on the entire internet. Seriously, go get help. 3200 negative posts in a few months tells me that there are serious underlying issues and a grave need to constantly express yourself and to be listened to.

Didn't you see how he sprints all over the court?
No matter his fitness level, if you push to your limits it's tiring.
If he didn't breath hard I'd be more concerned about how he does it.

Before I used to wonder how he got tired so easy, one time IIRC he retired because of a sore throat. :) That was a good one lol.

Agree with you guys. Sure, he does everything MUCH better than everyone is and his fitness right now is out of this world. But to me his style is very, very generic and boring. If he was a milk carton, the carton would be completely white and just say "Milk" in black letters :D

which would stand out more in a typical grocer filled with obnoxious brands and icons ;)

.. Maybe that's how he reinvented the game? By simplifying it

I think Nole's shots look quite smooth and fluid. He has definitely raised the bar. Obviously not as much as Federer did, but now he is the new pacesetter.

Fed = all-courter
Nadal = defensive baseliner
Novak = offensive baseliner

"Djokovic is an all-court player"
Okay, but not in the traditional sense. I think an all-court player serve-volleys from time to time. Djokovic doesn't s/v very much. If you look at only his serve and groundstrokes you would probably say he plays/attacks from the baseline. Yes he has excellent netplay, but so does Nadal.

Ten botchered volleys.
yes, and a missed overhead. I just don't think netplay is a weakness for Djokovic or Nadal. They both seem very able to come in and finish a point. But I don't think this makes either of them an all-court player.
Just as Sampras was more of a serve-volleyer, I would consider Djokovic more of a baseliner. Federer, on the other hand, serve/volleys from time to time, even at RG. To me it's the style of tennis that gives one the label of all-courter, SV, or baseliner.

When someone says Nadal or Djokovic has excellent netplay, or that they have the best volleys on tour, somewhere a kitten dies.

Exactly. Their net game is adequate for their needs. However, it simply can't be called excellent.

Now, for all I know, both of them may have the ability to become excellent at the net, but the current conditions simply don't allow it.

Depends on your definition of all-court player. I think it is someone who serve and volleys at times. I don't think Novak does this very often, so I say he is more of a baseliner.

Can you find reliable sources which disagree that Djokovic is an all-court player?

Djokovic comes to the net about 5 times in the entire Australian Open tournament. He is by far the most extreme baseliner in today's tennis. You have to have a balance game between net game and baseline game to be an all-court player. Djokovic doesn't have that at all. He stays mostly at the baseline, and rarely ever comes to the net.

Don't jump on the Bandwagon media just because Djokovic is the current hotness in tennis.
