Djokovic's Wimbledon Triumph - A lucky victory he WON'T repeat - can he win 10 Slams?

Djokovic is good, he should win some more slams. Rafael Nadal can't win them all, so I can definitely see Djokovic winning some more slams.

You do know the starter of this thread is a Fed fan right?

And a lot of the Nadal avatars on here are sarcastic digs at him by fans of other players, mainly Fed fans. Look carefully at the op's avatar. Does it really look like a picture a fan of Nadal would use to you?

60% of the people on here with Nadal in their avatar are trolls. I don't get it really.

I do believe you need a minimum number of posts first before you can have an avatar.

I'm not so sure. Nadal's playing style is not going to be a benefit as he ages; he's been troubled with injury before--in younger years--so Nadal going forward will not find it so easy to rack up more majors. Meanwhile, Djokovic appears as though he has no "off switch," and could average 2 or 3 majors a year, and in the event his competition never gets their collective act together, there's no telling how many majors he could win.

Nadal has less problems with injury each year. He's making every slam final, with ease. So it looks like he's on the rise in terms of avoiding injury.

Most wonderful post, Sir.

Liked your video, you really do have some talent there. What was the music in the background, felt like a movie trailer.

LMAO.

You are probably referring to 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)', by Radiohead.

Listen, young valiant and fiery Rafa fan. Your time... will come! Just try not to get banned.

Apologies for the rapid fire responses.

The bumping of this thread is accidental. It's just unfortunate that I loaded several pages to get here and let my fingers continuously slip in an orderly fashion to conjure up a response and then hit the 'Post Quick Reply' button. This accidental bump is dedicated to... Clarky FrankenCvak.

I don't understand how people in the same sentence can pass off Rafa's future for being too physical (understandable) and then think otherwise about Nole's.

Because Djokovic's game is not as brutal on the body as Nadal's. Djokovic may not be as graceful or light-footed as Edberg, but his game will not rush him toward an injury-induced downslide like that of Nadal.

Someone explain to me how Djokovic is supposed to win slams until he's thirty-something, injury-free with the game he plays now, because I just can't see it if Rafa's not expected to last that long either. Does being gluten-free strengthen knee and shoulder joints too, or does it only make your fitness superhuman?

He's no superhuman, but I maintain he's a more flexible player delivering less overt physical brutality to his body--which (in theory) will give him a few more years to collect majors than Nadal.

Edberg didn't have a very long career either. In fact, it was Connors, who had the most physical game ended up having the longest career. It's more mental than physical. Sampras retired because he was mentally spent. Agassi, on the other hand, had a much longer career despite playing pure baseline game with a bad back.

Definitely. Djokovic's flexibility is what keeps him pretty much injury-free.

Plus, he is lighter than Nadal and has by default better reach than him. In theory, his career should last longer.

It's not like Nole plays an efficient, attacking game in the likes of Federer. In fact, he's got a game that is equally as gruelling as Rafa's, except more offensive in nature. Furthermore, his forehand, serve and hard court sliding all look cringeworthy on the shoulder and knees, made worse because they look more awkward than do Rafa's (although this latter point is subjective).

Someone explain to me how Djokovic is supposed to win slams until he's thirty-something, injury-free with the game he plays now, because I just can't see it if Rafa's not expected to last that long either. He plays a more tactically sound game where he runs way less than his opponents on a consistent basis. He moves people around, people don't move him. People move Rafa around all the time.

He expends less energy, particularly off the backhand side. Nadal has to expend alot more energy because he puts so much spin on all his strokes. Novak hits through a little more, thus of course he expends less energy than Nadal does.

Coupled that with better flexibility (or so it seems), I'd say that Novak is going to last quite alot longer than Nadal.

Edberg didn't have a very long career either.

He was a pro for 13 years, so that's no short stint for one of the best players of his generation.

In fact, it was Connors, who had the most physical game ended up having the longest career. It's more mental than physical. Sampras retired because he was mentally spent.

Yes, but before his retirement, when did Connors win his last major? 1983--but he retired in 1996. Longevity sans majors victories for that wide a gap (until retirement) does not mean much. At least Edberg's final major (1992) was not that far removed from his own retirement--ironically enough in 1996, like Connors.

Agassi, on the other hand, had a much longer career despite playing pure baseline game with a bad back.

Agassi is not a good example since he was so in and out during the first half of his career, that he did not burn himself out with consistent play the way I witnessed it happen to Courier--another guy with a brutal, grinding game.

Oh, no. Never knew anything about that, is it even worth while compared to TTW?

I think both forums are about equally as good as each other, but they both certainly do have a different vibe. Might be worth checkin' out y'all.

Yes of course. I've always said Djoker's 2008 AO was a fluke. The proof is in the data. But nothing after that was fluke.

I wouldn't know, I don't read your posts to be honest.

Hewitt vs Roddick is a toss up. Remember a well past his prime Hewitt with an injury almost beat a red hot Roddick at Wimbledon 2009. If they played at Wimbledon in 2004 and 2005 Roddick probably takes 2004, but Hewitt even more probably takes 2005. Hewitt also beat a close to prime Sampras at Queens more than once. I dont know if Roddick could have managed that.

I wouldn't use that match as an example in all fairness. Roddick didn't play half as well as he did against Murray or Federer. Remember, all of their matches have been close, I know this isn't grass, but Hewitt at US Open 2001 (in his prime) got pushed by Roddick who had yet to take that next step (he was still 18 and very immature even for Roddick - watch the line call reaction).

I agree with your premise about Wimbledon 2004 and 2005. Even then, outside 2002 and 2005, where did Hewitt actually look like winning a Wimbledon title? Roddick was a contender from 2003, 2004 and 2005 (losing to Federer each time) and had that 2009. Even from 2007 & 2008 people still felt Roddick was a contender at the very least. Hewitt is more decorated (and deservedly so - he beat who was in front of him), but I believe people took Roddick a lot more seriously on grass than Hewitt. Before Nadal, the only guy who had a shot at beating Federer was Roddick -who came the closest to beatin Federer before W07 final when he lost in 4 tough sets. Hewitt wasn't going to beat Federer from that period.

Roddick could beat Sampras on grass no doubts. Especially in a best of three where he's beaten Sampras twice. So from a foundation point of view he's in with a shot. US Open 2002 Sampras played well and Roddick was struggling to move. Who knows?

Djokovic run wasn't a complete fluke. But let's get real, he owes the ITF big time for slowing the courts down to a pace where 20 stroke rallies can be hit and you can grind to grass court success (BTW not sayung Djokovic grinds for the morons who will pick up on that last comment).

It's "FrankenCvac",not "FrankenCvak". Spell it correctly,please.

Anyway,I think he will not only get to 10 majors, but will get even beyond that. Pete's record is doable, for sure. Having no competition means he will rack up slams.

And I also think he will win Wimbledon again this year as well. Who is going to stop him?

Clarky for mother****king president!! Spit the truth all the time, lol I miss her :)

Let's hang :) I'll buy you a beer lol, you're so pressed over me you should be ironing my slacks. It's ok to be an ULTRON fan. Sorry to popularize the term ;) He's good, really good and has my respect as far as his level goes, not sure what else you need from me, I'm not required to be his fan. I don't go around begging you to like Nadal and be nice and only say good things about him. Don't be so sensitive, people will think and feel what they want :p

Interesting how so many original contributors to this thread have been banned. It also says Nadal Agassi was a guest? Anyway, it shows how difficult it is to predict the future. Boris Becker gave Djokovic something extra to dominate.
