some great 1st round matches. Dimitrov, The Don, and a nice exo tonight. Anyone know if they're going to stream the exo anywhere? I see streams for Dimitrov later tonight. Gonna be a barn burner. Still waiting to get an update on Raonic see if he's healthy enough to defend the title. He rick rolled Benneteau in Canada so hopefully he can keep up his singles play (yeah he sucked in dubs)

Where is Dimitrov streaming? Last year sap open streamed everything on Veetle.com, but I don't think they are this year

I'll be the chair umpire for the exo!

Wow, that is awesome! Did you chair any of the day session matches?

I was there for the day session today and it was pretty weak compared to last year. Normally the day session has 5 matches but today there were only 4 and two were from the qualifying tournament! The 2nd qualifying match was Smyczek versus Berankis which would have been OK since they were both in the main draw last year. But Berankis was injured and retired in the middle of the 2nd set, he was not himself the whole match.

Luckily I was given a free ticket but I would have been pissed had I actually paid for the ticket!

Oh hey! Woodrow's back! Awesome!

Both back to umpiring, it seems, and back to these here forums after his account died somehow. Great on both counts :)

Does that mean we won't get to hear Ken Thomas: Commentating Extraordinaire?

i hope so. Don't know why tennis is 1 step forward 2 steps back though. Last year we had full Veetle HD streams, this year nothing. WTF man

Online streams sucked. Very choppy and low quality. Was looking forward to San Jose because of the HD stream they offered last year and this year nothing.

I only did the exo.

Left after the 2nd set of the Dimitrov-Anderson match. It was 11pm and I still had to drive an hour to get home, so that was it. Why start the match so late? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Anyway, Dimitrov has such a beautiful game, it's hard to believe he lost to such a one dimensional player like Anderson. He dominated the first set, but got tight on big points in the 2nd set, double faulting at key times and missing relatively easy shots.

His talent is immense, just hope he can hold it together mentally. He was confusing Anderson all night with beautiful low slices combined with powerful strokes. But it still wasn't enough as Anderson had a huge serve.

And yeah, he plays like a baby Federer, same serve, same BH.

Yeah, he is maturing and starting to get more fluid in his game, it's getting beautiful to watch.
I completely agree, it's all about tightning up mentally now, much like it was with baby Fed, as the strokes and potential are all there.

This was the funniest part of the match. Johnson/Monfils hit a shot on the far sideline. Jack Sock got down first and started looking closely. Then McEnroe came over and lied down and looked closely too. McEnroe then challenged the call, but he was wrong. The ball was in. :)

Man alive, what an honor for Jack Sock. If I was him, I'd be getting McEnroe's number and wearing his ears out with questions. You can learn a ton from that guy.

The exo was very entertaining.

Mac could play doubles on tour today, at least mixed. He's amazing at net.

And who knew Jack Sock was such a great volleyer? He should incorporate that into his game as much as possible, he's got great touch.

Monfils was trying his clown shots, all unsuccessful. But what was puzzling was his serve, he didn't look good and got broken a couple of times.

Good stuff, Mac is a legend and amazing he can hang with these guys at 50+

They weren't all unsuccessful. He hit the one great lob while sliding about 10 feet, and Sock missed the tweener. :)

Yes, but that doesn't qualify as a "MonClown", which is defined as a quite unnecessary behind the back/between the legs/leaping 5 feet shot.

Which he tried a few times, but never succeeded.

In the battle of the teenage American players Kudla defeats Sock in three.

Watching the match it was pretty evident that Kudla is further along in his game than Sock at this point. Kudla played with more patience and better court sense, he knew when to go for a shot during the rallies. Sock sometimes seemed lost in his point construction attempting the wrong shots on critical points. Kudla seemed to be able to hold serve much easier than Sock during the match, even though his game may not be as big.

can't wait to see roddick play

guess that's gonna be tomorrow ... atm it's 5:40 PM, and American Steve Johnson is 6(4)-7, on serve 2 all in the second vs. Belgian Steve Darcis ..... then, the frenchies will play the yanks in dubs, followed by the evening schedule ..... the younger, stronger Young vs. the smaller, more experienced Russell s/b very interesting ... hope young doesnt tank, cuz russell certainly wont

TennisTv.com ripoff ?

What kind of Ripoff is this ? I signed up for Tennistv.com for ATP san jose event and Paid for it. and now it is telling me that this is area restricted event and Live stream is NOT available in my area.

I'm sort of interested in seeing Roddick play also. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets knocked out early, or has trouble in the first round. I've been seeing top 20 players drop left and right to qualifiers and lower seeds when they have court rust.

Roddick looked really good in his matches this year despite injuries. He is hitting through more, well have to wait and see. Hopefully he will realize he needs to shorten points as his body is letting him down.

I do have another question.

How does one win a match 6-0 6-7(4) 6-0? Can two players adjust their games like that where one player comes back and forces a tiebreaker, then gets bageled again in the third?

Are you in USA? It says right on the front page for San Jose that blackout applies in USA.

Ginepri takes out Malisse 1 and 2.

Now it's Russell and Young. This could be REALLY interesting. Russell could VERY EASILY take this match tonight if Young's not careful.

Good lord, did DY get time to get his warmups off? 6-1 first set to Russell.

I could see Russell winning this tonight from a hundred miles away, but not in this fashion. We'll see what happens second set.

Wow. Just wow.

Second time this set, Young goes up a break. Up 5-3 and the second set on his racket. He ends up losing the break at love.

5-4 DY, second set.

That's the match.

Russell wins 6-1 7-6(6)

I'm very glad I couldn't watch the match. This one obviously deserved to be blacked out. DY gets breadsticked in the first set before he could blink, and when Russell's serve starts to sink to new lows, so does Young's.

All in all, this wasn't a hard prediction. Russell's not a guy who is going to make a big splash on tour, but he'll sneak a win or two on you, is scrappy, never quits, and can go all day. He's never an automatic win for any opponent. He'll probably get poleaxed next round, but getting in the Round of 16 will get him past the top 100 again.

As for Young, I cannot wait till a youtube clip shows up somewhere of this match just to bring up something else, besides his forehand, that fails him in a match. Broken three times, loses eight points in a row on his last two serves, and when he has the second set on his racket, he double faults. We can congratulate him on getting to the Top 40, but now he has a hell of a lot of work to do to get any farther.
