What's Federer's record since the US Open? Something like 37 out of 39 matches won? (one of them a meaningless DC tie trying to save the Swiss team a** as usual).

And please...even if Federer wins the IW final today he's still 800 points behind Nadal which means he ALSO has to win Miami and count on Nadal losing before the final. If Federer gets there, he more than earned it.

If Federer regains #1 it will prove that he is not past his prime. Also, we saw that Federer has no excuses, he always has had the ability to defeat Nadal on any given day.

Also, it was great that Nadal explained there were no excuses nor shots taken at players, he claimed that he was simply out played. Hopefully Federer can actually be classy for once and fallow suit.

Not at all, how can a player be at his prime at the age of 31 (when as we know players decline already at the age of 24) ? It would just prove that Fed is so good that even at an advanced tennis age he is a threat to be #1 in the world.

If anything, it only enhances his legacy.

It is true that Djok and Raf have a lot to defend but most of the points will be defended anyways.

I disagree with you and I'm middle aged.After last year going 10 months without a title losing a 2 set lead to Tsonga and twice in a row where Federer couldn't squeak out a win against Djokovic at USO,I had finally written Fed off.

The last few months are No1 form 37 out of 39 wins 6 wins from 8 tournaments.Yes he lost the crucial one and it was a predictable one considering he's 2-8 to Nadal in slams.

However the slack losses have gone from Federer's game at the moment and he really is in slam winning form.Only question is will he maintain it for a whole season as in the past.It's a packed summer this year and his only chance to it.If he doesn't win it back by the end of the USO then he will never get it back.

No, it proves he found some form again. He's probably working 10 times as hard to do this now. It also doesn't mean that he didn't go through a lull for 3-4 years.

And yeah maybe Federer can be classy like Nadal, like when nadal said he only ever lost to Delpo 3 times cos every time he played badly, and Federer just said Delpo was the better player in the US Open final. :roll:

Federer has 2 focal points before the slams - Miami and Madrid. Both tournaments he can win.

If he wins them both and defends his RG final and win Wimbledon I think he'll clinch it before USO.

It's tough task, in terms of what he has to do:

1. Win one from Wimbledon or RG and makes the final in the other
2. Win at least 1 MS and 2 finals, or win 2 MS before RG.
3. He can pick up points in Cincy since he fell early last year.

It's a merry go round really. Federer can even win RG if Djokovic takes Nadal out. Clinching #2 is huge really as he could even have Nadal on the other side of the draw for Rome and Madrid. Same goes for RG.

Federer is more than capable of beating Djokovic on clay, as he's in a much better form now than last year, and he still managed to do that last year.

But for the clay tournaments he needs Nadal to be on the other side of the draw. Given that and a win at Wimbey he has a very good chance.

Though it's far and away something that shouldnt be thought about, what if he finished YE #1? Only man to lose it twice and regain twice?

As long as he's not losing before the semis (the last time he lost before the semis of a singles tournament was in August 2011!) I always give him a shot. Djokovic and Nadal won't always be there as IW showed.
