Rankings hypothetical - WOW!!

If we remove points from here till the end of USO, this is what they have:

Fed: 5810
Nole: 3100
Rafa: 2285

Assume the following happens [Very possible]

Pre-FO + FO + Wimbledon + Pre USO (excluding olympics)
Fed: 1800 + 720 + 1200 + 720 ==> 10250
Rafa: 3300 + 2000 + 720 + 720 ==> 9645
Nole: 2800 + 1200 + 2000 + 1360 ==> 10460

Then it all depends on the Olympics as to who will be Number 1 before the USO

In fact, I am. I just realized that Roger can get to No. 1 without winning a slam!!!

If course you mean one year not two. From mid-2011 to mid-2012

From 2003 to Mid-2011 - Roger was number 1 or number 2 - and he was never lower than 2.

Might be hollow for someone who has never won a slam. But this guy is the all time leader in slams, getting to #1 without a slam would not be hollow at all.

Which by the logic around and in the tennis world would make him a joke. Who would buy Federer as number 1 if Rafa wins the French and then Nole wins Wimbledon? Especially if they are having deep runs outside the majors also as your hypothetical gives them the possibility of. People will just call it ridiculous like they called Woz ridiculous...I would rather your hypothetical not happen just to avoid that.

Oh wait who am I kidding...the standard will be totally different if Fed regains number 1 despite not winning a major in well over a year simply because its Fed.

This hypothetical is the exact same thing that happened on the WTA. Under this assumption Novak is the reigning Aussie Wimbledon and US Open champion and not number 1. This was the exact situation at one time when Serena was holder of 3 of the 4 and yet Safina was number 1. The majority of people were stamping tbeir feet about it and demanding the system be changed and callimg Safina a joke.

IF this happened..which I doubt anywany but it might...do you really want to see Fed called a joke? Someone would. He has not won a major in over a year and if he were to retake the top spot in that circumstance I would be surprises if there were no grumblings about it.

Fed hasn't won a major since AO 2010 which is more than 2 years ago. I think he might get one from Djesus this year,though.

Wouldn't be a joke with recent victories over the 1, 2, and 4 player in the world. None of the womens number 1 could say they beat Serena in any big situations, she would always bow out to a nobody, in the big moments she would beat the "fake" number 1's. Fed can and has beat all of his contemporaries in big matches. Safina, Woz, Jelena, Ivanavic etc. could not lay the claim as can Fed.

besides, unlike the fake No. 1's, Fed's got the whole GOAT thing going for him.

It's Federer. No one's dumb enough to call him a joke, I think.
