I'm not a Sharapova fan either, and I'm trying to give Vika the benefit of the doubt. But, I still can't help feeling sorry for Maria.
Maybe it's me, but Rafa just came back and this was his first tournament. He played a lot better than I expected him to. He's usually really rusty, but we can't expect him to come back and be right back in the groove. The Top 4 are levels above the other tour players and if he had beat an in-form Federer with rust still on him, it would have devalued the rivalry, imo.
I have a lot of respect for Sharapova coming back from such a serious shoulder injury. I don't really dislike Azarenka but I was really hoping Maria would win today after that beatdown in Australia. Unfortunately she just doesn't have the movement or any sort of variety to match it with Vika these days.
Back on topic: Yay for Rafa and Marc winning doubles. From all reports they've been great all week. Nice to end IW on a positive note.

Great picture of Rafa in the middle of a serve and it shows how still he keeps his head while all the other parts of his body are moving.
So happy for Marc and Rafa and their doubles win. Managed to catch most of the second set on a pirate stream and Rafa and Marc play so well together. Marc was especially impressive. He's fast as a jackrabbit and even though the other teams always pick on him, he holds up his end of the partnership very well. Rafa's so good at the net it's a shame he's not confident enough to do it more often in his singles. Now on to Miami. Vamos Rafa!!!

What a great picture
It was quite a dissapointing match to watch... as others have said Rafa somehow didn't quite seem into it for much of it. He was good at the end though. Hope it was just rust.

You know what they say: even a broken clock is right twice a day. Since no player is gonna spend an entire season without losing a match, if you predict a loss every single time they play, you can be sure at some point, you're gonna be right. I don't think that makes you an intelligent person though

I was delighted to see Rafa win the IW doubles for the second time! That's what he did in 2010 and look at what the rest of his season was like :shock:
Rafa and Marc make an amazing team, they beat excellent doubles specialists too. I don't understand why Rafa doesn't play doubles EXCLUSIVELY with Marc. He is 10 times more efficient paired with him than with anyone else. Granollers? Nah. He should stick with Marc, they complement each other perfectly for doubles and they have won 4 hard court titles together (the last 4 Rafa has won). They want to go with someone else for Olympics? HUGE mistake in my humble opinion.

Since he can't seem to win singles titles,I guess as long as he pairs up with Marc Lopez(who singlehandedly won their doubles final for them,btw)he has a future career in doubles. And 2010 is history,and he will never repeat it no matter how badly you want him to.

I agree. I would love to see Rafa and Marc play doubles in the Olympics and they'd certainly have a good shot at the gold medal. Qualification gets a little tricky though as Spain has so many good tennis players that qualify based on their rankings. Marc has moved up to #23 in the doubles rankings with this win and if he can have a couple more good results, he might be up high enough to make the decision tough for the Spanish Olympic committee. Hopefully this coming weekend we will have a Djokovic Nadal final. I like Nadal's chances of beating Tsonga/Isner and Murray. Hopefully Djokovic can destroy Fed. DjokFed haven't met this year, so its hard to predict.
Either way, Nadal has something to look forward to, either increasing the h2h lead over Djokovic to 17-14, or increasing the h2h lead over Federer to 19-10, and of course the chance to win his 20th Masters Shield. It will be a MOMENTOUS occasion.

Miami doesn't favor his topspin oriented game at all. The conditions are heavy and prevent his shots from kicking up like they should. There is a reason he has never won it,and most likely never will. He sucks there and I have very low expectations for this tournament,and would not be surprised if he lost early.

Why is perspective only expected from Nadal fans? The Federer fans have gone completely cuckoo and they were already on the far side of loony with their Fed as a religious experience. Djokovic's fans have settled down from their king of the hill crowing of last year but they're still extremely smug while he's hanging on to #1.
