Wow, 32 seemed, and seems, extremely low. I was thinking of going from 57 lbs to 50, the low end of recommended tension. Remember, I'm not as strong as you and don't have your racquet speed, either. I have one more package of the Twist (only sold by reel now on TW) and might try that at - gulp - 48 to see what happens. I also ordered some other types of string yesterday and will try those.

My stringer says the racquets are still in excellent shape, BTW, and they felt pretty good yesterday against the wall and on serves. We'll see how they do in a real match this afternoon.

I really do appreciate your advice; you know much more about strings and spin than I. Hope I'm not bothering you.

No problem! Yeah it was hard to put my mind around trying a string tension that low as well, but with the stiffness of poly strings, it's actually a good match. 48-57 lbs might work well too. Weird thing is that I probably feel I get more control and power from 32 lbs than I do from 48-52 lb. tension range. I figure with your tricky, all court game that a low tension could be a good fit. Let me know what you think! Test it out against Hollywood!

Didn't do too well in the match today with the Twist, and didn't give the other racquet a chance; went back to my trusty oversized Wilson and played a bit better.

Will try theTwist at somewhere in the 30s and see what happens. Hope Woodman doesn't bully me out of the Ys. :) Don't know what I'll do with them if they don't work out.

Schmad might try to make it down from Michigan, too, so we may have a BBQ mini-meet in Elvisville.

The obvious answer is you give them to someone. Thats what I seem to do with all my frames.

I think Ill string up my RD-7 supermids to bring along. And we can have a Yonex slug fest.

My 2 cents.

Your game, from what I remembered, has a lot of slice and long classic strokes (ala wood racket technique) that have been abbreviated for the modern big racquet super power. Read online that most of the wood rackets were strung up at 45-55. However, they had a small racquet size. Given it 5-20 more inches of racquet size, you would have to increase the tension to get the same feel.

Gamma twist is a very stiff string. It may give you spin, but it will not act like a typical poly these days. There are a lot of other strings, even polys, that are less stiff. I suggest you go back to your trusty pro supex maxim touch or gamma synthetic at 60lbs. You did very well with that set up. If you insist on the gamma twist, drop it by 10%, so say 54lbs, but include a lively synthetic cross for a hybrid at a little higher tension. The trade off will help with the stiffness and the tension will help with your control.

Perhaps why low tension works for someone like auzzie, is that I recall auzzie has a long perhaps less windshield wiper stroke. The lower tension allows the ball to pocket and give him a golfer's like controlled slice or twist. Your strokes on the other hand are short and concise. Pocketing may make you wild and erractic. Only way to find out, as I could be completely wrong, is to try it out. I still believe in the long run my overview is correct.

CB -- get one of those lace up ankle braces when you're ready to give tennis a go again. they are awkward at first but then you get used to em and they give you a feeling of super security. it's the same reason i wear adult depends undergarments on the tennis court. makes me feel like there's no situation where i'm going to crap my pants. and if i do - i'm covered.

Im taking TDI Airlines through Western MD and down through WVA, Kentuckybefore arriving at the final destination. It 45 mintues longer than going through Roanoke but I just drove to Baton Rougue that way so a different view wont hurt.

do we need to win the last match?

Yes, or, at least take one court. I tried doing the math last night and it made my head hurt. If we don't win, it may come down to games and/or a coin toss. Better to just win it!

CB, if it hasn't improved, have you given thought to seeing a doctor? You don't want to assume it is a sprain if it is something else...like a stress fracture. Don't want to scare you, but better to know, right?

Costco is my fav place! if I am at home, its been known fact that I am busy getting runned over by old ethnic ladies in either their oversized vehicles or worst getting my ankles mashed by their shopping carts. it is the worst in the GBURG Costco. no wonder they need to sell braces.

TM has a lethal fh and a killer slice!

Thanks Topaz. Saw the ortho doc last week. I had a stress fract on my left foot. But I've been laying alot of pressure on the right so now I got tendonalitis now.
Funny, my left is good to go now, but my right feels awful. Ironically, the doc says it's better to get a minor fract than a bad sprain bcz they heal about the same time and usually has no residual issues later in life. However, with a bad sprain, there's a increase chance of arthritis since it's a joint issue.

May be moot; just joined Coolblue on the footloose injury list. Right (opposite to bad knee) ankle/heel is just killing me. Can't put much weight on it, and certainly can't push off on it. Seeing an ortho guy tomorrow to see what's going on.

May have to trade the Ys to Auzzie for some of his ankle braces. :)

Hope you can make it, regardless of my playing status, and from FL you might have to fly Delta through Atlanta, although there are some Air Tran (Southwest) flights here.

Coolblue, come on out and we will cry in our beer while the others chase tennis balls.

Sup, appreciate your string analysis. I have lots of G syn gut, 16, 17, and 18 ga, to play around with as crosses. I'll try some of those combos when I can walk again. Boo hoo.

thanks for the warning. i've seen good to middling reviews of eggspectation - but it seems to be a chain. based on most of the reviews - it sounds overpriced and not that amazing. i'm gonna pass.

xisbum - sorry to hear you are on the injured reserve list. i guess you will just have to eat more bbq and have your grandkid sit on your lap as you regale him with stories of when you were in the great war -- the civil war. :)

dang.. misery loves company. Sorry to hear about your bummed ankle. Whatever you do, if they get you to wear the space boot, be sure to offset the height of your good leg. THey usually have these rubber insoles that you put in the shoe of your good foot to match the height of the space boot. This is the reason why I got my anchilles heel tendonalities cause the ortho doc didn't do this.

dats took me there a while back. it's a about a +$1 than the standard affair at eden center but it's def better... to top it all off, there's this 90 yr old woman that's making your sandwiches.. i've always heard that life begins at 90, but so do fallen arches, faulty eyesight, and the tendency to tell a story to the same person, three or four times.. however age somehow has also improved her sandwich making skillss.. i say keep em coming.. and in the words of the last emperor.. long live ten thousand years

Speaking of sandwiches, you guys need to try the Pork n Fries at Earl's Sandwiches in Arlington. The fries are in the sandwich Primanti's style.

cool. always favored experience over age when it comes to sandwich making. do they have buy 5 get 1's there too? Any fav's? I heard their pate's are really good there.
Never understood how subways can be so profitable. I guess capitalism has not reach viet sandwich business yet.
