demo'd a bunch of racquets today (my ps 6.1 ncode 95 hurts my arm) then played with the ncode and realised how much I like it.

it's not the racquet, it's me...

RHs who've played APD+ and APD,

Just curious to hear from ppl who've played both quite how they compare and match up... pros and cons in ppls opinions.

Thanks

I remember painstakingly trying to choose between the Apd plus and standard. I chose the standard, and always felt like that was a mistake. That probably does not help much..lol. But I love the pure drive plus so much more..like ped said, the ability to choke up on volleys and groundies when you are playing tight or need more consistency is a major luxury to have. Also the extra pop and leverage on 2 handers is big time. My 2 hander is far more stable in matchplay now, and I can hit deep returns even from a disadvantaged postion.

Well, though I'm pretty familiar with the PD+ and would imagine the APD+ is very similar indeed, I'm still keen just to hear from actual users of both APD/APD+ of their thoughts on pros/cons/match up.

At one point last year, I had 2 PDR +'s and 2 leaded 342g APDgt +'s: they're very similar and I play a similar game with both.

The PDR plus was harder on my shoulder so I parted ways.

I later made the decision to go from apd plus to the std length. After I had already ordered the new sticks, I started experimenting on choking up on the grip ala Tsonga and Fish. It 's a great way to pound the ball.

After getting the std length, I never felt like I got the leverage "under my hand" that I got from choking up on the plus length.

Like Chris Rock in New Jack City, I'm sure my Cortex addiction will get the better of me at some point and I'd likely do it like PP and wield the XL.

Both are great weapons. Wish they made the APD in a "PDR like" weight so wouldn't have to mess around with lead.

On a completely different note, I just read a great Peter King article on the Manning saga from SI: great behind the scenes look on the process:

Microgel and x fullerene are healthier options. Pure cortex is sexi though. I am too old. Xenecore might be good.

I'm in full on Chris rock mode now..picked up bad calls legendary MG prestige pro for a few shots today and hated it. Not because it sucks, but just because i am so attached to the black drive now. This thing is an extension of my arm on groundies, and now I have to regroove my serve.

Going back to full abbreviated to get the timing right and the confidence back.

On Friday, I was looking at the string pattern on the new IG version PP: that pattern is tighter than the Djoker's new Sergio Tacchini black shorts. It's basically a 18X20 masquerading as a 16X19.

Microgel Rad Pro is goat, should have bought that stick: spin machine and power to spare.

Microgel is better I think. Pj looks like vcores to me.

The new cortex in the black drive actually seems to work..or whatever they did to the thing has given it one of the most sexi time sweet spots I have ever felt. When you really connect and hit out, it is blissful.i can't believe they made a tweener sweet spot feel almost as perfect as a prestige classic.

I have never hit this clean..barely ever framing anymore..the offhand technique I have worked on is still working,,so no SEO honeymoon...it's real deal stuff.

I was told the new woven cortex extends onto the pallet, is this true?

Have you guys ever experienced a lighter stick feeling better in a larger grip?

Not sure on this one. I always have to demo with a 3/8 and I use a 1/4.

I'm going to try out my buddies 300T this weekend and see how it goes.

I still wouldn't mind having an extended fling with the regular Juice. I had fun when hitting with it in January-basically couldn't miss and you're never late because it swings so fast.

Yes.

For me:
Heavier sticks (12+oz) = 3/8ths
Lighter sticks (~11oz) = 1/2
IMO, a heavier stick needs a smaller grip to easier manipulate the racquet face.

A lighter stick, I need a bigger grip to make my wrist more stable. ie=less torque, break

I am not sure, but it feels 1000 times better to me than the last gt Babs.

Not sure if the strings add to the sexi time sweet spot pleasure, but I seriously have never had this much satisfying feel in about any racquet, let alone a babo tweener.

Sometime I would complain about not feeling the ball with certain strings or sticks, but with this thing, I can feel it exactly how I have wanted.

Played today for the first time in a quite a bit (for me) and the shoulder seems to have passed Test 1. I didn't go all-out and I was quite conscious of not overdoing either my groundie stroke (tried to stay very compact with elbow in the body, putting the least amount of stress/stretch on the shoulder) or my serve, where I shortened up considerably and just kind of did an abbreviated Roddick motion, going straight up and slapping at the ball at roughly 70 percent most of the time, rather than doing a full-on wind-up that stresses my shoulder more and trying to kill the tennis ball for aces. It was hella windy out there so this conservative approach probably helped me tactically regardless, as this was not a day to take big chances and go for lines as the wind was playing crazy tricks on the ball. Managed a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win in the blistery conditions that kept most points fairly short. Kept the BC20 in hand the entire time because I didn't want to mess with shoulder any more by going with one of my stiffer frames. Anyway, was quite nice to A) get through it without any big pain and B) gut my way through tough conditions when I also wasn't 100 percent, and grind out a win solely on tactics and thinking my way through the match rather than overthinking my frame and what else I have in the bag.

Test 2, though, arrives when I wake up tomorrow and see how the shoulder feels. Last time I played I got through the day fine but it wasn't until the sharp pain and soreness arrived that next morning when I knew something was definitely up. So, I will hope my tomorrow morning is a better one. But so far, a good Sunday in these racaholic parts.

Nice gads..the shoulder injuries always scare me..so easy to happen to anyone.

I had to go back to full on abbreviated..racquet behind my head before the toss, just to regroove the swing to the ball. I have been DFing a lot lately, but I am confident I can fix it.

My brain just started to stray into the vicinity of wondering about the APD+. As mentioned often before here (in fact, in the very beginning of this thread when I was checking out the PSTGT+), I've always had a bit of a conflict re XL racs. Maybe one day the fact I seem to hit bigger groundies and serves and like that added reach will win in the trade off with messed up timing/maneuverability issues (for me, anyhow). ATM though, best I continue on with my standard APDOs and the path of one-frame celibacy.

Microgel Rad Pro is goat, should have bought that stick: spin machine and power to spare.

Having never hit with an MGPP in my life, I got one of these in a trade fairly recently, but promptly traded it on without ever playing with it... quotes like yours above slightly makes me wonder to the wisdom of this.

Gads,

To my surprise a few months back, at the time I was checking out the BC30, I noted some feedback about Bast Core racs and arm issues (yes, despite that uber-low flex.) What's your take on this? Are you sure the BC20 hasn't contributed to your pains?

Yeah, never hurts to go back to the basics. I'll tell you, going so abbreviated and conservative today, I didn't have the easy service winners I'm accustomed to, but it sure was nice to make the majority of my firsts and not have that constant pressure to slide or kick the ball into the box on seconds. If I'm constantly making my first serves, I just seem to have a much better rhythm that extends into the points.

Gads,

To my surprise a few months back, at the time I was checking out the BC30, I noted some feedback about Bast Core racs and arm issues (yes, despite that uber-low flex.) What's your take on this? Are you sure the BC20 hasn't contributed to your pains?

I've wondered about that, but, two things:

A) I think everyone who's had arm issues with the BCs, it's been an elbow issue. And that is definitely something I watch out for, because I eventually got some TE back when I was hitting solely with the BC20 like a madman back in my initial two-month honeymoon phase with the stick. Not so much that I had to stop playing, but I did feel it and had to go with an elbow strap for a week or two for it to settle down, plus play a bit less.

B) Conversely, my gut tells me the 20 is pretty kind to the shoulder. I started to feel the shoulder pain on a day when I wasn't swinging the 20 and it was like my No. 2 or 3 tester. And when the pain did arrive last, it was always the 20 that the shoulder seemed to feel best with.

Now, since my beloved PKs are tops in the biz for arm issues (well, maybe second to the Exo Tour), I'm thinking of also put an arm-friendly fresh string job of full gut or gut/syngut in my remaining PK 7G to have in the bag as well, along with the 20 and the Prestige. The Prestige is actually the frame I'm most sort of hesitant with at the moment, since that's the frame I was playing with the most when the shoulder pain came. So... not anxious to pick the Prestige up again until I know for sure I'm out of the woods.

In the end, I don't think it was any frame that did it - just overplaying and also overdoing the 'overemphasis' on the new swing, higher arm slot, etc., which put stress on my shoulder that it wasn't used to getting.

Nice going b-c. So, are you strictly a mid-user long-term, or have you been tempted to play MPs over the years? I've done the reverse (i.e been tempted to play with mids... MG Pres, DNX10, BB11, AG100, PB10). But as much as I really enjoyed these experiences, fortunately I eventually wised up to the fact these were too demanding for my modest requirements LOL! :) TBH I think I even struggle a bit with 95" and 98" head-sizes to do want I want from the backcourt.

played the MGPP for 2+ years before meeting the 4D 100. prior to that played the C10 Pro and T10 V mid for a couple years. before that hadn't played in 15+ yrs. getting back into the game, thought bigger headsize is needed to compete. the 4D 100 proved me wrong.

'Recreational Fedding.' Amazing.

Remember demoing that dunny 100 and just goating serves. Definitely an easier-to-wield Mid. So whippy.

Played again today because I'm an idiot who's too weak for the 'wanna hit?' text even though I know I need to ease the shoulder back in. Good news is, shoulder still seems to be doing well. Sometimes I think I'm feeling something vague in the shoulder, but it could also be entirely in my head. Managed a 1, 4 win going conservative on the serve again.

I'm also dangerously close to getting back together with my ex, the BC20. Right now we're keeping it casual but 'the talk' may be coming.

Heard a guy in the tennis shop here, and also read on the boards but I need to find it..just worth noting..very well someone using dead full poly but you never know.

Badcall I stick to the miller lites..golden goodness..if I get crazy I'll go Abita turbodog.

The term 'recreational fedding' (we're all loving that one courstesy of Fed K) has passed overnight into Diary legendom. It did make me think though of a recent older player I was up against who had a serve so damn rank ugly and so contorted and twisted and wound up - but ultimately effective - that, well, I feel some kind of a warning needs to be made public.

Gentlemen, take special care and beware of any one engaging in anything that looks suspiciously like... ahem...

Played another match yesterday rocking the hybrid. I think that it is officially pretty safe to say that I am done with full poly.

Since my school seems to provide me the most number of potential partners, I played a match with our #2 singles players. He's a heavy spin player off both wings which I normally hate but took it as a chance to practice hitting different shots inside and outside of my wheelhouse. Taking the short balls on the rise with a bit of determined DelPoing had to be the most fun. From there I was focusing on keeping that ball flat from all parts of the court. Although, Ii was really fun though to throw in that occasional super heavy topsin shot.

Been having some trouble finding the groove on the backhand side lately and will have to work on that in rallying this week. I know that the problem stems from my footwork and relying too much on the slicer.

I have been contemplating throwing 3g at 12 to see it that will help with tip speed but I am admittedly leary about it. The serve is coming along slowly but surely and I'm really thinking that the lead would just be a quick fix that may throw everything else off. Ugh.....
