Well I hadn't checked it out but just did, that is pretty impressive having that many courts. We'll let the Horizon keep their bid.

31 Automatic Qualifiers - 16 already in and 15 to be decided this weekend

15 TBD:
America East - winner will be unranked
Big West - #1 seed Cal Poly is ranked #63
Horizon - winner will be unranked
Metro Atlantic - winner will be unranked
Mid American - winner will be unranked
Missouri Valley - #1 seed Drake is ranked #48
Mountain West - #1 seed Boise State is ranked #38
Patriot - winner will be unranked
Southland - winner will be unranked

WAC - #1 seed Fresno State is ranked #33
Big 10, Big 12, Pac12, & WCC winners will be ranked in top 25

Based off this the ranking cutoff to make the NCAAs will be 45 because 19 automatic qualies will be ranked below 45. This is assuming Fresno State and Boise State win their conference. If neither wins that will push the cutoff to 43. Northwestern, UNC-Wilmington, and Virginia Tech are sitting on the bubble and Northwestern is the only one of those 3 still playing.

A fight almost broke out after th OU/A&M match concluded. Klegou was viciously angry, screamed curse words and pounded the back wall with his racket after he was up 7-6 in the 2nd set breaker before the match endede because OU clinched. Paval called a ball that was well in out on match point, ref did not over-rule because he had just done so on a couple points before that. Then at 6-7 Paval tossed the ball up twice on his serve and caught it, delaying. Some pushing after the shake off hands, couldn't see too well, looked like an OU assistant got involved.

I would like to see Santa Clara make the tournament and have Stanford host a regional. It would be great to see those 2 teams in the same regional with Santa Clara getting the at large. Can't wait for the tournament!

Was able to go watch the summit finals in KC today. First college match I have seen. Just curious and thought you folks would know, is there a huge difference in the level of play from the UMKC team I saw win today and the top tier programs like Georgia or USC?

Yes, the Top 10 teams would win just about every match 6-1 6-1 or something like that

Fresno State won at #1 6-3 6-2, #2 6-4 6-2, 3 6-1 6-2 to go up 3-1. Idaho took # 6 singles to make it 3-2 Fresno, and Fresno finished it at #5 with Wake Forest transfer Zachary Leslie taking it 6-3 in the 3rd. Fresno State just saved a bubble team from losing their bid to the NCAAs.

Mountain West Finals

#1 Boise State rolls over #3 New Mexico 4-0 in the finals. Boise won dubs and 1, 3, & 4 singles all in straight sets.

Baylor won doubles vs Oklahoma. I will be very upset if Baylor can over-achieve in the post season once again.

Does not look very good for Oklahoma right now, No. 4 Peerakit lost, so Baylor up 2-0. OU is looking to close 1 and 5 to tie up, but the other 3 matches could really go either way.

Newb question here, is the location of first rounds of NCAAs determined by ranking in conferences?

Primarily determined by national ranking but there have been instances of being ranked in the top 16 and not getting to host 1 of the 16 regionals.

Ole Miss one time didnt host even though they were #2 in the nation.

Texas Tech didnt host and had to go to Oklahoma who they beat 3 times that year.

Ole Miss did not host because their home site did not meet the NCAA requirements for back up courts and/or facilities.

There are also economic factors that go into the decision of who hosts. What was Texas Tech ranked last year? Pretty much the top 12 will get host sites (except for reasons like Ole Miss not getting to host). 13-16 will host unless there are reasons such as being too expensive to fly to, with other teams in the general area also hosting a site, etc. That changed about 4 years ago when the economy got worse.

I found the guidelines for hosting last year - I assume it's the same for this year:

First- and Second-Round Site Selections
The Division I Tennis Committee will select the first- and second-round sites from the pool of institutions that have completed the facility evaluation and key contact forms. Bylaw 31.1.3 prescribes the five primary criteria in site selection:
• Quality and availability of facility and other necessary accommodations;
• Revenue potential;
• Attendance history and potential;
• Geographical location; and
• Championships operating costs.
In keeping with the Division I philosophy that top-seeded teams should be allowed the opportunity to host preliminary-round competition, any Top 16-seeded institution that has submitted the necessary paperwork to host and meets the minimum criteria established by the committee for hosting, should be able to serve as a host for the first and second-rounds. If a No. 1-16 seed has not submitted the necessary paperwork to host first- and second-round competition or does not meet the facility requirements as outlined by the committee, then the committee will select an unseeded institution to host, based on the general site selection criteria. Institutions are encouraged to submit bids to host first- and second-round competition even if they are not among the highestseeded teams.
Each institution interested in hosting first- and second-round competition, regardless of seed, must complete and submit an online facility evaluation and key contact forms not later than Tuesday, April 26. Instructions on how to access and submit the form will be sent to directors of athletics. Hard copies of the form no longer will be distributed.
Only institutions that complete and submit the facility evaluation and key contact forms will be considered for first- and second-round host opportunities, including the topseeded teams.
It is not necessary to complete a proposed budget form for first- and second-round competition. Each first- and second-round host will receive a $4,500 stipend if they host men or women’s competition, and an $8,000 stipend if they host both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
Please note that the committee has adopted the following requirements for first- and second-round host sites:
• Minimum of six hard-surface, quality courts of similar speed and surface with umpires’ chairs;
• Adequate number of practice courts of same or similar surface to the competitioncourts near the competition site;
• Availability of backup indoor site (if appropriate for your region);
• Appropriate seating for estimated attendance;
• Minimum of six USTA-certified umpires plus one head referee;
• Adequate training facilities and medical personnel on site at all times;
• Tournament director (other than the institution’s head coach) and appropriate game management personnel;
• Two squeegees and two blowers available at each competition court;
• Hotels (22 for single gender sites and 43 for dual-gender sites) secured 30 miles or 30 minutes, whichever is less, from the competition site; and
• Hosts must fax a letter of agreement between the host and the team hotel(s) to the NCAA stating that rooms are being held. Failure to provide the letter of agreement may jeopardize your selection as a host. Failure to secure the minimum number of as a host in the future.
In an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience at the first- and secondrounds of competition, the tennis committee has implemented the following additional requirements for hosting:
• Hosts shall provide a players’ lounge area with refreshments.
• Hosts shall provide either a digital copy or hard copy (minimum of 5x7) team
photo memento for every member of the travel party, with an NCAA banner in the background.
• Hosts shall ensure that Event 1 merchandise is displayed appropriately.
• Hosts shall ensure NCAA signage is displayed properly.
• Hosts shall follow protocol provided by the NCAA for the introduction of players.

Im pretty sure Texas Tech and Ole Miss have legit facilities that qualify. I was appalled at those decisions in previous years and if I was a fan of one of those schools, I would be raising cane even more than I did when it happened.

The people at Ole Miss were stunned they didn't host, they even had shirts made to give to fans. I actually have one of those shirts. It's hard to believe that they were blindsided by their facilities short-comings.

I think they moved it to Norman strictly for Wichita State because the othe rteam in the reagion was a Texas team.

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think it was facilities with Ole Miss. Was that when they went to LSU?

There was another school that didn't host because of facilities, and I got them confused. That may have been last year or 2010 though.

Yes, they had to go to LSU. I remember it being a big deal because Ole Miss had 2 or 3 seniors that were going to miss graduation and that added to the insult of not hosting. I guess it would have been 2009 because that was the year College Station hosted
