sneaky muzza, he just decided to skip dangerous blue clay, get some practice in rome early, get used to real clay and have some pasta and wine!

I'm starting to think that way too. He'll be playing for six weeks out of the next 8 - the rest will be playing 7 out of 9.

That's a tough schedule.

That's a tough season for everyone. They get some real off-season this year, though, what is it, 7-8 weeks?

I'm just wondering how the ATP might react to Murray being seen practicing on the courts in Rome while apparently unable to play Madrid because of a back injury?

What do you think?

What are the main differences between blue clay and original clay courts anyway?? Apparently blue clay is more slippery right..

Slippery, Feels more like Hard Courts, and Lower bounce.....is what everyone is saying.

Oh ok. Yeah thats what i thought the differences were as well but wasn't sure if i was right. The ball marks on blue clay are so easy to see as well which makes it look cool haha.

Yeah he's probably taking it a bit slow with the training and getting used to the clay. smart move by him, probably just has a slight tweak.

Well doing a bit of light practice is different to playing a tournament.

Imagine if Nadal did this.

He would be burned at the stake by an angry mob of TT'ers with torches and pitchforks in hand. No way Nadal would get away with withdrawing from a tournament, only to be seen practicing a few days later. Just ask Drakulie about that.

Maybe he did. Doesn't seem like a bad idea either.

Clearly disfavours more defensive play, unlike what one would expect of clay.

Imagine if Nadal did this.

Lol, we just wouldn't hear the end of it. EVER.

Murray tweeted the following this morning:

"Seems like the players are enjoying the blue clay in madrid...Arrived in Rome and the red clay is playing horribly :)"

He's taking the p1ss :)

lol. the top tennis players have so much downtime and many breaks. it's quite the life. they have the media hoodwinked into believing it's a "grueling" life.

Have to agree. Muzza has his eyes set on the BIG ones. Doesn't want his game disrupted by the different courts of the blue clay. I'd say brilliant move Murray.

I'd say, if that's his thinking, bad move. He needs to get more pro-active on fast courts for W.

I don't think madrid helps anyone prepare for anywhere other than Madrid.

If wimby was on blue clay at altitude then there might be some value in playing it - I think Murray has pulled a bit of a masterstroke here to be honest.

Good.

He gets to F of W: you've been right
He doesn't get to SFs: I've been right

Let's sit tight on our hands now:)

Madrid, IMO, is a magnifier of bad movement, of being flat footed, and any player benefits on playing on such a surface.
Tiriac has installed a great filter there.

Murray's gonna rue this good opportunity of gaining some ground on Federer. The conditions would've suited him.

If this is ultimitely about gearing up for Roland Garros I've no problem with it.

Sorry, but who really remembers who won Madrid last year vs. Roland Garros outside of the money-making promoters (and yes, some small number of locals)? If this is more about Murray gearing up for Roland Garros, good. The more top tier competition at a Grand Slam makes for a better show.

About those "locals" though: nice soccer rioting in Madrid last night (one of my fav Euro capitals visited). :)
