Alex Cercone to the friggin rescue. What a finish ladies. Kudos to Duke, wish we could both play for it tomorrow. Much respect.

Both UCLA and UF are gonna be gassed for the 1PM start tomorrow. Two total slugfests. Battle of attrition. Wish I were there.

you've got quite a team there floridatennisdude - duke fought awfully hard today and had some chances for sure (8-7 serving at 2 dubs, and i always like clayton's chances in a 3rd set since she's the most experienced singles starter on the team and a heck of a fighter) - but i think the better team won in the end

very glad the duke ladies put it all on the line when they could have been deflated going into singles (like i was haha) - i think today's match is much more indicative of what they have to offer than that beating they took down in florida - they didn't get the revenge they wanted, but should walk away from this one with their heads much higher

good luck to your team in the finals

Crazy! Mather was serving 4-0, 40-30 in the 3rd set. She hit a first serve fault and then ran to her bench. She threw up Gatorade and then ran back and hit her 2nd serve. She went on to bagel Mar in the 3rd set 6-0. Great effort!

There is volume and commentary if you click the women's final coverage link below court 6. Video is just ok but in this HD age anything other than HD looks poor.

Also is ESPN covering this ? or is it tape delay only ?

i am not complaining about quality. It is choppy and keeps on freezing for 2 seconds and going. it is only doing this on top 6 courts. but Lower courts where the other semis were played on is working great. so it has to be a technical issue.

TopDawg. Thank you so much. that commentary video is working perfectly. Is this the ESPN coverage ?

As expected a Gator crowd - probably 200 Gators and about 20 Bruins. Tickets half price today to try and get the locals out; of course they skin you up charging $5 to park which is a ripoff.

Anderson (UCLA) gets a netcord winner on set point to take the first from Will.

Embree (UF) up a break on 2

Montez (UCLA) takes the first set off Mather at 3 and are on serve in the 2nd

Oyen (UF) took the first set on 4, on serve in the 2nd

Cercone (UF) took the first set on 5, up 3-0 in the 4th

Seguso (UCLA) serving at 6-5 for the first set

Allie Will calls a injury time out since she is about to lose the match down 5-2 in the 2nd set against freshman Anderson. Why does the Umpire allow this ? This is such poor sportsmanship and is pathetic.

Because Will is allowed one MTO and officials can not dispute if a player is injured or not, mainly due to liabilities issues, even if the official may believe it is a stalling technique.

Same reason Jones from UCLA took an injury time out down 5-0 to Embry in the deciding match. It happens all the time in college tennis. Just the way it is.

Show me in the rules why the umpire shouldn't allow it?

It's not that the umpire shouldn't allow it (it would be quite the chore to determine whether players are taking a legit MTO), it's that the players shouldn't do it unless actually injured. Only they know.

We can robotically dismiss any behavior with "it happens all the time," as someone said previously.

Shades of John Isner against Somdev Devvarman in the team match about five years ago. I cannot remember if it was a medical time out, or just excessive stalling between points.

Obviously, but the good Doctor indicated that the umpire shouldn't allow it, so I an wondering what he is basing that on.

They did make a good step by limiting the players to one MTO per match instead of one per injury a couple of years. It seems like the amount of MTO's for what appear to be gamesmanship reasons has cut way down.

wow quite a beatdown of UCLA in the finals - great job and congrats to the Gators

Duke will have everyone back trying to get some revenge and block the three-peat next year - looking forward to some more exciting matches between those two teams

The 4 teams in the semi finals as well as Stanford return a high percentage of starters and have solid recruits committed. I see 4 out of these 5 teams again being in the final four next year.

It would be nice if that other guy in the picture was having the same kind of success as his partner.

Jackson could and should be having the same success as Roland. Same wonderful facilities and support staff, same strong state to recruit from, same popular university that everyone wants to attend. The reason Jackson has not (and never will, in my opinion) won a National title is his own coaching issues. There is no player development going on with the men and the top players leave the program because of this. Case in point, Spencer has signed a release and is transferring next year. Another huge loss for the Gator's. Several other players on the team are very unhappy with Jackson and his coaching style. Do you think Foley will fire him if the whole team transfers or quits?

I don't think Foley will fire Andy. He just went Elite 8 with a group that shouldn't have gotten out of the round of 16. I think it would take booster revolt to get Andy out right now.

He surely has a bad trend of transfers. However, if he still wins with all those issues Jeremy will just nod and move on to football. He isn't the highest paid AD in the country because he sweats a few transfers in men's tennis.

Shame about Spencer. I found myself watching his matches more and more as the season went on. Great heart on that kid.

I hate that this is detracting from the lady's thread.

Congrats Lady Gators! Get it done in singles tonight!

Ps...for those paying attention, it will be like a Lady Gator dual match tonight with Will, Embree, Mather, and Oyen all taking the courts at nearly the same time.

Anybody watch that epic match today between Nicole Gibbs and Mathers of florida ? very tough 3 setter. Mathers had so many chances to win that match but couldn't close it. This could be the year for Gibbs to grab that NCAA title and get the wildcard to the Open.

Didn't watch it, but impressive comeback from Gibbs. Jo is hard to overcome when she gets on a roll, especially seeing as she was playing in front of many friends and family. Hope she takes a shot at the pros this summer. She actually has a unique game that could work well against the bigger hitters out there.
