I'm a little disappointed Sarmiento didn't give a better fight.

i'm a little happy that boland doesn't know his players as well as i do

otherwise, if domi had taken care of nguyen, we might have had to deal with uva finally having an ncaa title - the horror!

UVA 16% - top 3 clicking now, but relatively weak dubs, questionable depth, and likely a tough draw shaping up...also I question Domi's toughness in the heat (and with rowdy crowds like he saw last year at Stanford) against some of the top #2s he will face...UVA might be wise to switch him and Frank for NCAAs

Domijan was a nervous freshman in his first NCAA final 16 last year. That won't be a problem this year, and that is one reason the sophomore Domijan stays ahead of the freshman, Frank.

I know Steve Johnson is way better than most everyone in college but the mystique factor is playing a role in all these lopsided scores. People have been like "wow I'm facing Steve Johnson" and lose in their heads before they hit the court. For instance I watched a good part of SJ vs Cunha in the quarters on Sunday. You could tell Cunha did not think he was going to win, even though he has beaten Johnson in the past and has the type of game to bother Johnson if he fully committed to it.

MikeJ how happy would you be if Duke swooped in and stole a title next year with the new players Redlicki,Semenzato and Levine before UVA can? ( I think this is a legit possibility)

It's like they are playing Federer 5 years ago. Everyone gets tense to be the guy to step up and do it.

This is getting easier and easier. Showdown in the semis could be an epic

Look at Neal Skupski doing his thing. I thought Doumbia would win that match after a shot of confidence after beating McMorrow. Doumbia gave SJ a tough match earlier in the season would have liked a rematch

yup, i think both duke men and women make final four next year with legit title chances, but you never know what happens in the off-season / who gets injured / etc, so we'll see

of course that would be pretty fantastic

i'm also looking forward to nostra/feddie and dawgie dawg pretending that stanford and UGA are relevant next year as they try to rebuild (then again, you never know how much talent Manny steals from around the country, so i suppose they might be on the radar again if he does a good job of that)

doumbia can't even win important matches at #3, i'm pretty confident he wasn't going to end StevieJ's streak

It's going to be a rebuilding year in Athens for sure, unless Pasha and Hernus improve immensely by then. We'll be solid, but not quite in that top 4 or 5. As far as "stealing" talent goes, I don't know the reasons behind KU transferring, but Nacho transfer was to be closer to home and Wil took a year off for personal reasons before coming, so I don't see either of those as being all that egregious. Can't speak for past instances though.

He seemed to play better when he played #2. He played Johnson tough at Indoors and lost 4 and 4 I believe. Could have been competitive at least.

oh, i mean i consider it stealing, but don't misunderstand me as having a problem with it - if you can make that pitch for your program and be successful, go for it - to the winner go the spoils - i have no concern of him stealing a player away from Duke and Ramsey Smith, so steal away

and yeah, i think Doumbia is the type of guy that plays up to his competition - he perhaps would have been better served by playing at the top of the lineup like UVA did with Jenkins

Good point. One of the top college players a few years back said that just about every time he stepped on the court, he knew he had the first set won based on the intimidation factor that his opponents had.

I totally get what you're saying. And don't have a problem with it either. But I don't think player's are content, see Manny strolling along touting UGA, and up and leave their program. They have to want to leave, at least a little bit.

Dawgie Dawg

Frank has no chance vs Spencer. He will be scared from the moment the umpire says "play". The dawg pound will be mean mean to Frankie Jr. This guy lost to that goofus from Ohio State remember. He is very over-rated. Spencer will dispose of him.

I don't think Frank is scared of anyone including Klahn or Johnson. Frank knows on any given day he can beat the best in college tennis. so that kind of confidence can carry you a long way.

I bring up live stats and it shows Skupski serving at 3-6, 5-5, 0-30. Crucial moment. After a while, it suddenly says 3-6, 5-6. So, Steve Johnson obviously broke and will serve for the match. But the serving asterisk still points to Skupski. I go away from the computer for a minute, come back, and it says 3-6, 5-5, 0-0, Skupski to serve.

Let's just say that the LiveStats are interesting at this tournament.
