Why don't the USO & AO have a Sunday start ?

I don't even consider Wimbledon because there's already a no play on middle Sunday policy. But what about the other 2 GS ? Sunday is a rest day for most people. The introduction of a Sunday start at RG a few years ago was the best idea imo.

Yes they should do the sunday start for Men in the US.

It would help then to put the semis of the men on friday. Final on sunday!

Instead of super saturday......

USO starting on a Sunday seems preferable to doing the 1st round from Monday-Wednesday.

I don't mind the Sunday start--gives those who work Monday to Friday an extra day to watch major tennis.

Kishnabe misses the point....they don't want the men's semis on Friday, better ratings on the weekend.

They're already going to potentially move the men's final to Monday to solve that problem.

Their tentative schedule on the site for 2012 still has the Sunday final. If they go with the Monday final, can we play later than 4pm eastern? Ridiculous. Nobody's home from work. Who gives a damn if it's running up against the NFL? You have more of a chance of people watching the final over NFL than you do of people watching the final over...being at their job.

The article says next year would be the first official Monday final. The tough thing is, we all know how big NFL is in this country and it'd be the first week of the NFL season. I don't see tennis standing much of a chance of drawing ratings in that situation. Also I'm not sure how starting the final at 7PM EST would work w/ other time zones around the world. I think that's in the middle of the night in the UK and most of Europe, something they certainly would have to keep in mind (even thought the AO final shows at 3 AM EST here! :?)

Absolutely, but I also don't see tennis standing much of a chance of drawing ratings when those who work 9-5 jobs have at least an hour left of work, or three of them, if you're on the East coast.

The Sunday final would draw the most viewers of course, but it seems like they're hard set on a Monday final now. If they are, then having it at 4 or 5 EST is better than having it at 7 EST. The amt of casual viewers that would watch would be nil if you have it against an NFL game, while at 4 even though you're losing ppl that may still be at work, you still may gain some casual fans who have nothing better to do. (Sorry to put it in such simple terms, but it is what it is, lol)

We should want them to be as different as possible from each other, not ask why they are not the same.

Speed, time, colors, languages, etc etc...

If the Men's final is a night match on Monday, they can get huge crowds. A huge portion of the Late Show with David Letterman is folks on their way home from work (and in New York City, that's a lot of folks).

There is no need for a Sunday start unless u want 3 days for R1 matches.Us Open schedule is the worst where they take so long to finish the early rounds, only to speed things up at the end of the tournament.
What`s the big issue with semis on friday and finals on sunday?
Wimbledon has it,French Open has it,AO even has one semi on thursday and the other friday.

I don't think the problem is getting a live crowd to fill the stadium -- they can probably do that at almost any time. It's TV viewers that's the biggest concern.
