poste modern brasserie: really good mussels. <-- some of the best i've had in dc and i've had a lot, at $10 happy hour special, the qty was a bit under whelming. their truffle frites were good but i'd perfer if they did a 2nd round of flash fry to crisp up the outside. happy hour wine portions were pretty generous. i was pretty hammered prior to getting in the movies. overall 3.5/5

ccormick and schmicks: nothing special. everything was bland at their late happy hour menu. we tried about 6 items followed by a round of drinks and was promptly suggested that they were closing at 11:30.

next on my happy hour menu is: black salt

Oooh, Black Salt... I wanted to go there and then found out one of my ex-GF's works there. Don't want my food to end up "tainted".

I've been thinking about Blue Crabs, anyone down? I go to the Quarter Deck over here in Rosslyn. The place is a dump but they have the best Blue Crabs in VA. You sit outside at picnic tables.

Also I might hit up Old Ebbitt for oysters and vodka. Need a partner in crime as the pregnant wife cannot have any of those items. We could get drunk and then have a foot race behind the White House.

There is this asian dude in my building that plays tennis, I've seen him around the courts (various courts) numerous times. He is pretty good. The rest of the MAC has seen him too. He posted a "Wanted" sign in our lobby asking about hitting partners but you need to be a 4.5 to hit with him, wtf?

We don't like to hit with you sub 4.5 scrubs. Enjoy the heat!

You're about 10 degrees hotter.

Yep. We have a tropical disturbance that is draping clouds and rain over us. It has been a very weird weather year here. There was no winter to speak of but then June either has been super rainy or windy with no humidity so this has been the coolest June I can remember here.

sorry forget all the time.

if there are any twmac folks that works in the DC metro area, we should have lunch together..

we just need to make it metro accessible.

i had lunch at union station today (and work right by there) if anyone is in that area

NY Ave metro is one stop east i think?

I'm down for making it happen. Maybe meet at union station on a Friday?

Yep - NY Ave is one stop past Union Station

are any of the food trucks that line up on mass ave between north capitol and first street real stand-outs?

I'd recommend El Floridano (pulled pork sandwich) or the Rolling Ficelle (again awesome sandwiches). They move around so they may or may not always line up on the same street.

it is the citi open now

and i've never actually been to the district taco downtown location, i go to the one on lee highway as i live pretty close to chain bridge and i can get gas for way less money out there

Topaz, you are the only person I know that knows of the Quarterdeck. Everybody else has never heard of it... even my friends that live across the street from it.

I used to go there with teachers from my school, especially when we were temporarily being housed in Rosslyn. We went there a few times for 'end of the year' celebrations, too. We always sat outside, and once, when it started pouring when we were there...they had these curtains that they put down so we could still be outside but we were protected from the rain. Nice!

It would be a great 'after tennis' eating and drinking place!

Jrs,

In my best wookie yelp, I just approved of having jerk chicken later today. Three Jamaican fellows across the bar were trying to explain to me why cricket is such a fun sport to watch. Fail imo. Then we got to good food and they described their jerk chicken recipe. Yum. What's your jerk chicken recipe? Any secret ingredients? Please don't say wookie hair strands jk

did you bring that world famous cake you make?
No. And bah! We got rained out. Some rather serious thunderstorms through this area, including a tornado in an area just south of here. We'll stay home...and watch the original Willy Wonka. Depp's version was just too dark for my teeny ones.

But on the foodie front, we had crocked-potted local ribs, with local corn and some homemade CI-recipe tabbouleh. Tomorrow night's agenda: another CI-recipe of Fideua (a Spanish shrimp/pasta dish). Better darn be good for the $15 in shrimp it's costing me.

Tried to cheat and buy a "triple" chocolate mousse cake from The Whole Foods down here. No comparison. None. Now I'm spoiled, dammit. But my own f-n cookin'.

Bought a bottle of wine to use for a chicken recipe but I only needed 1/4 cup. Drank the rest by myself and now I'm finding it increasingly difficult to shoot people on BF3. So now I'm just driving the Humvee around trying to run people over.

Good luck with the Fideua! I love making and eating that one!

Nice playing last night Downs and TM. TM and partner were done before others had finished their first set. Quick and nasty...just like TM likes his...........tennis?
