My Take on Yonex Poly tour spin string

Ok i played with new poly for good 4-6 hours now and i am finally now getting a good feel for it. This is a textured 5 sided poly from Yonex. Yonex makes great products so i decided to give it a try.

Yonex RDIS 100--- 53 lbs full bed.

1st of all, on the serves it is a Great string. Good control, and power on serves is there when you need it. My kick serves really jumped up, even more so than other textured strings like RPM blast.

Feel department really shined. I had problem with feel with bluegear but not with this string, great control on drop shots.

Groundies department. this is where i had some issues. Control is about average but power was lacking. My groundies stood up and saids hit me. I was getting good topspin but it didn't penetrate. This is a problem because if your Topspin groundies sits up during rallie, your opponent will pound it.

Volleys. Not bad with good feel and placement. but once again lacked punch due to lack of power on the string bed.

Overall, Nice string from Yonex with ton of spin potential. Feel was better than bluegear. but this string really lacked penetration on the groundies. Maybe i should go and pump more iron. but won't be switching to this string at this time. but guys with more powerful groundies and guys that love Blue gear string, this string maybe worth trying out. Tons of topspin with decent control. and better feel.

I have a set waiting to be strung up. I like the color the YPTS though. Have you tried the Poly Tour Pro 125?

2 hours in of testing.

I'm very impressed with its control, topspin and ball bite.

For me almost like poly tour hs but a little more power.

Looks beautiful on my ezone xi's .

More feedback to come soon.

finally someone did a review of these strings. i currently use poly tour pro 130 in my vcore 98 d at 60 in one and 58 on the other. i was thinking of trying n potentially switching to the poly tour spin, seeing as it is shaped, unlike the round poly tour pro. i used to ur alu rough which is textured to get a bit more spin in my kblade tours. for $9 u cant go wrong. yonex is quality. to answers skye's question, it's a stiff string (maybe because i string it at 60) but i haven't gotten any arm pains. get good spin, but probably not as much spin as a textured string like the poly tour spin. the yellow also looks cool. so u recommend the poly tour spin? how is it compared to alu rough, seeing as u use luxilon.

I will be stringing them up this weekend. But it will full bed this time, not a hybrid. So far, of all the polys I have tried, Alu power plays the best, crisp and lively feel, good power, nice spin. You really have to try it out, at least once.

The spin and control is insane, better than Alu Rough by a mile.

I used to use many luxilon strings, Alu Rough, alu fluoro, big banger original, even big banger ace (doesn't last me more than 4 hours)..., I can tell you won't get better control and spin from any of these luxilon above, guaranteed.

I'm only at 3 hours right now, the poly tour HS is way better than big banger original as well, similar as well.

i had trouble getting acute angle on inside out forehands. it would fly out wide often. great on touch shots though like drop shots.

I want to try it, but I think it would look like crap with or racquets nostradamus. light blue with blood red, not the path to best looking setup.

I have it strung up at 45 in my EZONE Xi 98. I love it. Mellows out the powerful racquet. Control and power is enough for me. I'm pushing 2 weeks with the same set of strings. It didn't feel like there was a break in time needed, either.

I'm a baseliner and it felt good from the back. At the net, the string was fine (I'm not a volleyer). Serves felt good and my return game was excellent with the strings (when I didn't shank the ball). I even lost the dampener once and didn't mind hitting w/o a dampener - something I never do with polys.

I plan on buying more sets of this string!

I just played with a full bed of Poly Tour Spin. It feels good!!!
I strung them at 53/50 lbs on my Vcore 100s, and they felt plush, no boardy feel whatsoever.

Spin and control was really good, I could feel the strings biting into the ball. Wow... Power is perfect, just enough for me.

If it stays this good for a couple of weeks. I am getting rid of my gut/poly combo (saves me a bundle).

You guys should try it, it's only $8.95 on TW. A different feel to ALU Power or CoF, but I am really liking it a lot.

After around 10 hours of hitting with the Yonex Poly Tour Spin I will make a switch.

TopSpin is off the charts and I noticed that it sustains its ball bite for quite a bit of time, much better than Tecnifibre Black Code, or Luxilon Alu Power Spin, you can produce a really heavy ball, control low slices from opponents that skid and retrieve a nice ball with rpm, i make some really acute angles due to the ability of the string to grab when I on the side of the ball and of course because of the racquet which is light powerful with open pattern that allows me to play how I like it and hit shots that I am not able with smaller head sizes and tighter string patterns.

Feel isn't like Luxilon, because it is different, but it has a nice blend of comfort but not too soft, touch and good stiffness to provide the control, also keeping the playability consistent for longer time than Luxilon BB Original or Luxilon Fluoro, 2 string that I used quite a bit.

Tension maintenance is very good, I didn't expect the string not move at all, but it moves a little which doesn't bother me, again I use Yonex Ezone Xi, 100 sq in, 16x18, so I expect and understand it will move a little.

To me this is a great string, much better cost per playability there is, at 8.95 it is unbeatable what you get from it.

I will keep the poly Tour HS on my Ezone Xi Team Plus, the spin machine only to tame the power and spin a bit more.

So, after a week and a half of this string, it's starting to get "pingy." Anyone else notice this? I usually string every 2 weeks, anyway.

In case anyone is wondering how the poly tour spin really plays in comparison with SPPP.

Power, SPPP has it more
Spin, YPTS is better
Control, YPTS
SPPP has more pop and a livelier feel than YPTS
YPTS seems to go easier on the arm when struck off center. I got micro vibrations with SPPP

hey i just popped my poly tour pro in my vcore98d today (much was strung less than a month ago urrg -_-) i'm thinking of trying the poly tour spin now. im really surprised because my string is the 130 gauge n its supposed to be more durable than the 125. i string it at 60. think i should go down? had it at 58 before. maybe 55 even tho the range is 50-65. thx

Poly Tour Spin will really help you with generating more spin ball bite and control, this is the best poly overall in my opinion right now.

I played with Poly Tour Spin this weekend and really liked it as well. Very good spin( and I'm not a fan of shaped/textured strings ), control and power. Comfort is OK, but much more comfortable than other stiff strings. It's quite an interesting string, because it performs similarly to other great ones that are considered stiff but it's much easier on the arm.

Tension stability seems to be above average for a poly as well.

I just don't dig the color. Yonex should make a silver/grey/black/white version. All this blue doesn't go well with the Prestige

It looks terrific on my Xi's, that is beautiful blue.

They do have other colors in badminton strings and should launch a red string for all their red racquets. I don't think they're worried about prestige users, lol.

Back to the topic, poly tour spin string is maybe the best string on the market right now.

This is impossible to argue and most likely not true.

What do you know about it?

You haven't used it, when I joined this forum you were suggesting me Prince Premier Attack, Head rip control and a few other strings that, you didn't play with and you're only suggesting because you heard of. After a few reviwws pretty much nobody cares about PPA (as you write, looking cool in a forum LOL), are you still using it after people left you behind? Are you jumping on the same boat with all of them now?? What is it?

Why is it not true? Because nobody from the forum uses besides 4,5 people and because they're biased to try Yonex strings??

Give me a break, I used most of Luxilon strings, Tecnifibre, Babolat, some Gamma and one Signum Pro and to me it is better, it is my opinion, the same guy who gave me LTEC 5S (my neighbor who I gave him a set of the tour spin) says wonders about the string.

At least use it to have an opinion.

When it comes to full bed poly, I know my experience is limited compared to the folks here. But calling the Poly Tour Spin the best string on the market is a little overboard.

Personally, I do like the string and hope to purchase more. It's got zany spin freshly strung, but after 3-4 hours you can really feel the spin has dropped a number of notches. The edges gets smoothen out and spin becomes average for a poly.

Besides it does have that plasticky feel, which might not go down well with some.

I know you are a big fan Yonex. :) But let's not be too bias.

Oh if you are wondering, you can get the same blue from MSV. Look for the MSV Co-Focus Hex in Caribbean Blue. Exact same color.

I'm not bias, but I do like Yonex, Mizuno and Asics, all great quality products, that is why I keep buying them, but I also like Luxilon and Tecnifibre, Babolat gut and RPM Blast.

What it feels to some it's not important to me, because what it matters is what it feels to me, some like, some don't and as i had been using Luxilon, Babolat and Tecnifibre for a long time I do think this string and the poly Tour HS are better overall than these other strings, feel is subjective and not the only parameter to judge a string, as I said many times, overall poly spin is better to me, maybe not to you or some others but i know other people using it as well and they really like it to.

But you know your stuff too, so I accept your opinion, just disagree a little, :) .

BTW Poly Tour Spin guys, today I saw on TV Go Soeda(good player) playing against Del Potro and Zie Jheng using Yonex Poly Tour Spin on the highest level, it's got to be really good, as I think, otherwise they wouldn't use.

Credit where credit is due. Strung the half set left of poly tour spin for a guy that I sold my RDS 001 MP in the mains with Pro Supex Synthetic Gut Spiral Flex in the crosses at 58/60.
I remember when I used to own that racket not being able to string that high cause will kill my arm. During the period I own that racket I use to string high 40's and was enough.
Well, with this set up at this tension he let me hit a few balls and was impressive soft with a great pop and good control. Im not going too deep in a review, just to let know the ones before that read from me that was stiff(that was strung it in a Yonex Xi 98 )...well is not in the RDS 001 MP.

I never felt the spin was stiff, maybe it's the racquet. But the 100S isn't exactly a flexible racquet to begin with. Maybe the xi 98 & the spin just isn't a good match.

The pop on these strings are good, especially the sound of it when stuck clean...

The only negatives - after 4 hours of hard hitting, the edges do get rounded off and the trampoline effect slowly kicks in.

They are my standard strings now.

Any comparisons to any other pentagonal co poly, I really like black code and pros pro blackout, don't like b5e.

Comparisons would be good from those who use poly, not worried about stiffness, more feel and power at low 50s for instance. Black code is a smooth feeling poly, plush, with great spin and average pop, strung low ish there's great feel, great control and enough power to hit thro opponents. B5e to me feels really muted and dead, mushy more like cyclone.....

Any comparisons with them or any other poly, most appreciated....

I've used Black Code as my go-to string since it was launched and feel like it's the best string for me on the market. I really enjoy softer polys, this feels so plush no matter what racquet it's in. Since using BC I've gone through prestiges, speeds and now xi 98s, I always come back to it.

I found Poly Tour Pro a really good string for me, if I'm being honest I was drawn to it because of the colour but it ended up being one of my favourites due to the unexpected spin potential and soft feel. Tension maintenance was pretty average but I string pretty often so not overly concerned about that department.

I didn't really find any extra spin from Poly Tour Spin compared to Pro (however it still is very spin-friendly), it was definitely stiffer and the severe shape on it really fluffs up balls (annoyingly)! However as the name suggests the two versions are reasonably similar, only obvious difference I saw was the stiffness. A good string but feel like BC has it covered pretty well in overall performance, I find BC more powerful and just feels better to me. PTS gets the thumbs up in terms of spin.

Thank you, so string PTS a couple of pounds lower than BC and you'd have a similar string, the yonex playing a little crisper than the plush tecnifibre, which may work well in the plush 89 tour. I can see why BC would come out on top for you as the feel is really nice. I also string on a weekly basis so I don't want to be paying bc prices.
Have you tried blackout, pro pro version of bc?

$13 for a set of BC vs $8.95 for a set of PTS?
I like black colored strings but I will pick the PTS and save $4.

hey thundaga - also really like poly tour pro and was thinking about trying the spin. most comparisons i've read say it's stiffer and with less power. does it still have the pop and crispness of the ptp? would it be fair to suggest they would feel the same if you strung the spin at a lower tension?

it does have decent power, just not as powerful like Alu power type. but it is softer and generates more spin. I might try this string again and see how it performs 3rd time out. I had little problem with control when i hit the ball little bit late.
I will tell you that when i first hit the ball after stringing, it had pop but as the tension loss took effect, it lost some of the pop and control. this might be a normal thing for polys.

Spot on Meaghan, yes the downside of the BC is that it's a bit pricey, I have a reel though and have switched a few friends onto it who help finance my addiction ;) I haven't tried blackout but I have tried Genesis Black Magic and found that to be a very good clone, just not quite as lively and didn't find as much spin.

I would agree with most comparisons, I was also at the Yonex launch of PTS string at this year's Aus Open and that is exactly how their rep described it, a stiffer and lower-powered version of PTP. Even at a lower tension I think you would still notice greater stiffness but that is only comparative, the PTS isn't an extremely stiff string. I don't think it has as much pop but probably feels a bit crisper that PTP.

I currently have Signum Pro Firestorm in one of my frames, that is a great string in terms of power and feel.. about as stiff at PTS.

what didnt you like about it at 53/50?????

Good question. After 8 hours of play, tension has dropped around 13% (using Racquetune).

The stringbed does feel trampoline like. I'm stringing them higher just to get more playing life out of it. Besides the strings aren't all that stiff to begin with, and it's still as arm friendly after 10 hours of play.

We all want durability and if at that tension it's still arm friendly that will do me:)
And with 10hrs play so far who,s going to complain lol
