He is way to good to still have 0 Slams if you look at Novak with 5 and Nadal with 11...even DelPo has 1 and imo Murray is a much better tennisplayer.

He needs to bring something special though, a Grand Slam final is like nothing else.

As Lendl said during this years AO, look at the people he has played in those GS-finals. Federer played lights out tennis in the USO-final 2008. Fed also played very good in the AO-final 2010. Djokovic was laying the foundation in 2011 at their AO-final. And this years Wimbledon was very very close and Federer WAS lucky getting that 2nd set, in set 3 and 4 Federer was far superior though.

The prize ceremony at this years Wimbledon was very tough to watch, and this is coming from a huge Federer admirer.

LETS GO ANDY AND GET THAT 1ST GRAND SLAM IN NEW YORK!

Oh, if Murray doesnt win then i hope Federer does!

Murray is at an advantage in that he does not have to play Nadal in the semi-final, if Nadal stays at #3 (though I think Nadal will get to #2 and possibly end up drawing Murray). If Murray does somehow draw Nadal, it will be a very interesting encounter, especially as Nadal won their last encounter and they're 1-1 in the US Open H2H. It's a great opportunity for one to pull ahead of the other.

he's not better than any of the top 3 when they play their best tennis.

he needs a scenerio like wimby '12 AND hope whoever he meets in the final has an off day.

in other words, its not likely to happen. which is too bad.

You might be right- altough i dont think he has peaked yet. I expect more to come out of him from his work with Lendl

It would be a truly interesting scenario if Murray could win the US Open and take the #1 spot at the end of the year.

It would be great. If he could win, he may enter in "Murray 2.0 mode" à la Djokovic. 2013 would be almost unpredictable, with four top player in form at the same time, four different slam-winners...

Kinda hope he wins gold at Wimbledon would be special for the host country to finally have a British male come thru.

So you go with Novak...Its a toss up really imo, but Novak didnt look interested in Wimbledon for some odd reason, he needs to step up bigtime.

It's not going to be easy. I can see him beating Nadal, but not Djokovic or Fed at the USO. If he can somehow improve his second serve I'd say it's possible. His serve (especially second serve) is his biggest weakness. His FH does look better than before but he he still needs to improve that shot too.

and yeah, I'd love to see Andy winning his first slam ... poor guys is so underrated here ...

Not just because I'm a fan, but I can't see anybody but Federer winning it. The US Open has been his best slam for the past 2 years, even though he didn't win it, he played his best tennis by far, going out to Djokovic having had match point both times.

The fast surface massively favors his game, it's the only slam where I don't worry so much if he was to be drawn against Nadal, he can simply hit though him, he has Djokovic and Murray's number too. I would pick him in all 3 of those match ups on that surface.

Also take into account, that Federer has more in the tank at this stage of the season, especially with the Olympics this year, I don't think Rog will be as tired as the other guys. He is the smart pick, but at the same time I wouldn't rule out a return to dominance of Djokovic.

Good post, agree about his second serve, he gives it to much air imo. He needs to add a couple of mph and avoid those short second serves that landes in the middle of the box.

I would love to see Nadal drawn against Rosol again. Night session on Ashe, under the lights, big noisy crowd, after what happened at Wimbledon...Could you imagine? That would be fun to watch :)

Rosol will lose very easily. His match against Nadal was a fluke performance. Nadal is also one of the best students of the game, and he learns from his mistakes. He'll find a way to win. Nadal lost to Djokovic in a 7-5 5th set after leading 4-2 at the Australian Open this year, proving that Nadal was able to close the gap against his biggest rival and overcome the greatest challenge of his career.

Calm down, I never said Rosol would win, I said it would be good to watch because of the apparent bad blood between the 2 players. I know Nadal is the love of your life but no need to jump to his defense every time sunshine :)

On clay, that is. On HC its a different ballgame. Also pray that Nadal isnt drawn against Fed in the USO

No, I'm praying that Nadal IS drawn against Federer at the US Open. Nadal leads the slam H2H 8-2 and 2-0 in HC slams. If Nadal lost, it'd be only the second slam in which Federer gained a victory over Nadal, the slam H2H would be 8-3 in favour of Nadal, and the HC slam H2H would still be 2-1 in favour of Nadal. A Federer victory would mean nothing. A Nadal victory on the other hand would mean that Federer would have lost to Nadal at every slam (and if they meet in the final, Nadal would have beaten him in the final of every grand slam), giving Nadal a stunning 9-2 slam H2H and an utterly dominant 3-0 HC slam H2H.

Nadal has nothing to lose by facing Federer at the US Open.

Apart from an embarrassing straight set defeat, which is exactly what it would be for Nadal on that surface, think WTF but worse, at least at WTF Nadal could reach some balls, here they'll be flying past him all day. Federer is playing far better, Nadal is playing far worse, Nadal will be tired, federer won't....Just accept it....Don't worry, AO isn't far away, then Nadals chances increase.

Nadal never played better than the 2010 US Open final. He was very aggresive in that match...especially with his backhand and his serve.

He will never win the US Open again without that form.

I am going to say Murray wins the US Open. With the top 4 being extremely consistency of last year. If they all hold one major after the US Open.....it would make things interesting going into 2013.

If Murray loses.....I hope Nadal doesn't win.
