You can all reminsice of the good 'ol days of "choke job", 0-4, etc....etc... but those days are over...

You can also diminish an incredible, "against all odds", and unrelenting winds at the U.S. Open, wininng his 1st of many GS... but the fact is, like him or hate him, he's turned the corner twice on the World's biggest stages in 2012, the U.S. Open, and Wimbeldon Center Court at the Olymic Games. Kncoking off the the two top players in the world, in dominating, humiliating fashion!

Will he be perfect and have an amazing run like Joker of 2011? probably not.

Can he now win 1-2 slams a year? Absolutely.

Does he NOW realize he is AS good if not BETTER than his contemporaires? Yeah, with Lendl, yeah.

Is he afraid of losing anymore? Nope.

discuss. :)

In four years Murray will be sitting on 17 slams with four straight CYGS, of that there can be no doubt.

Don't be too cocky.. Your buy needed to avoid 2 of the big 3 and have windy conditions vs. Berdych just to take it all

Lol, no. Djokovic 2.0 is gone. Murray almost lost to 2009-form Djoko even though the wind was heavily favouring him. Murray wouldn't have gotten more than 4 games/set in the USO 2011 final.

Murray would have been lucky to even win a set in the final vs. Last year's Nole. Nole wouldn't have lost that 1st TB or that close 2nd set I don't believe if we are talking last year's noel

I have long promoted Nole's last year as the greatest year in tennis. Ahead of federers 2006 simply becos he absolutely pawned roger and rafa (2 all time greats) and peak rafa across 3 surfaces..unheard of.

Djokovic is awesome! I love his game! But I also like that there is NOW a new kid on the block with some confidence...like Joker had after his US Open Loss in 2010? He came back stronger in 2011 AO Champ...and blew away everyone! same with Murray... 2012 Wimbeldon loss, and came back stronger for US Open over a tough draw and field! with Lendl's help!

It's a brand new day folks...yes, it's a brand new day in Men's Tennis!

I think you're forgetting an important fact: They both had to play in the miserable conditions and trust me Murray doesn't exactly like wind either (09' Indian Wells final versus Nadal ETC.)

Murray simply outplayed Nole in the bigger moments and in my opinion, wanted it more. The tide has changed buddy!

Murray 2.0 is 2-0 up on Djoko 2.0 since the Olympics
Murray 2.0 is 1-0 up on Federer v17 since the Olympics

Murray 2.0 almost dropped the whole thing in the final and barely managed to regroup in the final set.

Doesn't look like a very impressive showing to me, even though it was his first slam.

I think the press will turn on him when he goes to Wimbledon. They'll say Lendl won't be able to coach him to a Wimbledon title.

Ya struggling to close out a 2 set lead over a guy who has less rest than you is the 2.0 You better hope for 3.0

Murray played 5 hours more than Djokovic going into the final.
Even the commentators thought that would be more telling than the extra days rest.
And the Ferrer match was like a good practice game for Djokovic.

Nole 2.0 > Murray 2.0

Murray back to back straight sets Djokovic and Federer at the Olympics. That was Murray 2.0.
Next he outplays and outlasts Djokovic in a grueling USO 5 set final after a very hard route to the final. And that wasn't even Murray 2.0 playing.
I'm sure you also saw the close Australian Open 2012 5 set semi final.
I'm sure you also saw Murray 1.0 serve for the match against Djokovic 2.0 in Rome on Clay 2011 (Murray's worst surface).

I always got the impression you were an objective and technically very knowledgeable poster?

I have enjoyed and learned from many of your posts so it's confusing to read some of the stuff you come out with.

Do you really think, objectively speaking, that Murray 2.0 < Djokovic 2.0?
I don't know what your gripe is with Murray but you never give credit even after winning such a hard fought slam.

You've seen me post several times quotes from Pato Alvarez, former national coach for Spain, who also coached Murray, saying in his opinion Murray is a more talented player than Djokovic, Federer or Nadal.
An opinion I would personally disagree with because, objectively speaking, I think Federer is out in front of anybody but hey, what do I know over someone who's been involved in tennis for 50 years and coached the Spanish national side for 16.

Do you know more?

Whether you agree or not, it certainly adds a lot of weight to the debate that a peak Murray would certainly match or be very close to the peak of any other player.

Many of Murray's past results against the other members of the top 4 also indicate this.

I know you're a Murray fan, but I think it's pretty clear that Djokovic's peak (I won't get into the 2.0, 1.5 nonsense) is superior to Murray's. He's not even playing that well compared to last year, and he's still had a superior season.

I don't think it's clear at all.
How do you know other players haven't stepped it up?
How do you know Djokovic wasn't lucky in 2011 in addition to playing fantastic tennis.
He got a lucky net chord when Murray was serving for the match in Rome 2011, Federer had a 2 sets to love lead and 2 match points at last years USO semi final. Nadal missed a crucial sitter near the end of AO 2012.
These moments could easily have gone against Djokovic and the season wouldn't have looked as good.
He played great tennis no doubt but also absolutely everything went his way.

At the end of the day you can bring subjectivity into everything and discredit all of Nole's wins and make it seem like Murray's slam win was much better than any of Djoker's. I can just as easily say that if Djokovic had not made a mistake in that first set tiebreak, he would have won the match. All subjectivity aside, based on pure results, Nole 2.0 had an absolute cracker of a year in 2011. Who knows, maybe Murray will have an amazing next 12 months. But until that happens I don't see how you can say that Murray 2.0 > Djokovic 2.0. Also to be clear we are comparing Djokovic 2.0 vs field and Murray 2.0 vs field. You may well be right about Murray 2.0 having the edge on Djokovic 2.0 in their H2H (only time will tell though).

Of course if the point you are arguing is not that Murray 2.0 is better but that it is too simplistic to say Nole 2.0 is better, then I completely agree. We dont even know what time period Murray 2.0 is . If Murray 2.0 is the time period starting Wimby then we clearly have a ways to go before we make our assessment,

Can we really say that Murray "leveled up"? Is he really doing anything significantly better than he did in the past?

Murray 2.0 wouldn't ever go down 1-5 in a set against Cilic and lose two-straight breaks of serve in a slam final (after being UP the two breaks).
