WOW

Poor City, Breaker I can only imagine how you must feel right now.

Amazing match though, Toure was awesome. And Essien was immense too, wonder why we let him go if he can start for Real Madrid...he can play against City but can't even make the bench at Chelsea.

It's all part of the masterplan! Schweinsteiger and Iniesta will be here in January :) maybe not.

I liked the text commentary on the BBC Sport website..

Unbelievable! Utterly unbelievable! They were staring defeat fimrly in the face but now Real Madrid lead. Cristiano Ronaldo cuts in from the left and fires a shot that dips and beats Joe Hart, despite the keeper getting a touch. Hart has been great in this game, but he could possibly have done better with that. Jose Mourinho responds to the goal by sliding on to the ground on his knees like a young lad at a wedding. Unconfined joy for Real but only pain for City.

Only Mourinho, eh?

Oscar....holy sh*t. That second goal was absurd.

Oskarrrrr! Pirlo, Bonucci and Buffon will be having nightmares about that second one :)

I didn't think we would win that game, so a draw is fine by me. Once again it was the midfield, Pirlo, Marchisio and Vidal were always going to destroy Mikel. He just can't pass the ball, on any level. It cost us against Reading, he nearly gave away a goal against QPR at the weekend, and he was at fault for the equaliser today.

I know Breaker disagrees with me about our midfield :) but a month into the season and it has already cost us, I can't see it getting any better.

Mikel sucks. He was awful today and cost us the match. Pirlo ate him alive. With all the departures over the summer, I wonder whose idea it was to let Mikel of all players stick around. And we let Essien go, but Mikel can stay? Boggles the mind.

The thing that worries me is that nobody came in, apparently the club were looking at Fellaini all summer, right up to the last week. Did they really think we could do without? Worrying!

I just saw some ratings, they said about Mikel.. "The Nigerian's passing from deep was poor, only emphasised by his part in Juventus' equaliser. Still has not progressed to the required level for this team."

You don't say!

Makes you wonder why on earth he was brought to the club to begin with, huh?

I'd of taken Fellaini any day of the week. Schweinstiger, Pirlo, anyone would work at this point. Perhaps we could steal Defour from Porto in January?

I think the mini clear out, with Meireles and Essien going, means something is going to happen. Fellaini is the player who keeps on being linked, he was even before he went to Everton. The numbers who have gone out means at least a couple will have to come in, so they probably have a couple in mind.

They definitely do have a few players in mind, the trouble is that most of them won't be available until the summer, and some of the other players in contention were signed by other clubs. I for one would have loved Javi Garcia or Javi Martinez. Anyone but Mikel. He's not good enough to play in my sunday 5-a-side indoor league, let alone for Chelsea. Fellaini is great but Everton won't let him go on the cheap.

I think Fellaini will be around £20-25 Million. Everton aren't really in a position to turn down that kind of money, it's a shame for them and you have to feel sorry for them, but it is what it is.

I said in the summer about wanting Capoue, the price mentioned was £7 Million. He would be a massive upgrade in the destroyer role, that one improvement would take us further than any other signing we could possibly make I think.

We could probably wait till the summer to get someone more creative in alongside him, when more players would be available.. Cabaye possibly, there are alot of options.

A corpse would outrun Mikel.

He's so frustrating, he does some incredible things at times. He can get out of tight spots, the way he uses his bodyweight and shields the ball sometimes is fantastic. He just makes so many mistakes, positionally, he's rash, not the best tackler and when he has the ball, you know he's going to take too long or just give it away.

I have to admit, having him and Lampard as the only 2 midfielders in the squad is very worrying.

Even so, it was a good game. I love seeing how Juventus use the 3-5-2 system. The midfield 3 of Vidal, Pirlo and Marchisio are very good to watch. It's not nice to be reminded of how woefully short we are in that area of the pitch, but that's what you get with tests at the highest level.

To be fair I didn't expect Di Matteo/Abrahmovic to go crazy and sell Meireles and Essein then not get even 1 replacement for either one, surprised Chelsea weren't even in the conversation for De Jong considering the price he left at, would have been a perfect fit.

at least for you it was Mikel who had a mare..Kaptain Kompany had one of his worst games ever in a City shirt which makes the loss even more frustrating.

Yeah, a game like last night would of been perfect for Meireles. He always seemed to do well in the Champions League. It's encouraging in a way, like they're clearing out to bring new players in over the next few windows. I suppose it's just time to sit tight.

Oscar was brilliant, and not just his goals. Juventus are so well organised and 5 at the back made it very tight at times, whoever had the ball though, he was always there to offer an option and keep things going. I didn't expect him to be able to do that in his first start, especially against such great opposition.

As for Kompany, don't worry about it :) I think he's the best in the League. He's still learning at the Champions League level, away to Madrid is about as tough as it gets. If he's learnt from it, it's a good thing.

I second bringing in Cabaye, perhaps we could offer Newcastle a few more million and get Tiote and Ba as well.

Yeah it's sad to see Everton in the state they are in, and not really being able to progress due to their finances. Fellaini is amazing and would really cripple them, but I don't think many players would want to come to Everton. Who could replace him for only 20 million? I can't think of anyone.

A corpse would outrun Mikel.

He's sh*t, isn't he? I have no idea how he manages to get on the pitch.

Yeah Juve moving the ball around the midfield was a sight to see. Pirlo seems to get better every time I watch him, which is scary for someone his age. Why didn't Chelsea take a chance on him when he left Milan?!

Yeah that's a tricky one. Essien wasn't sold but lord only knows Madrid will probably offer us 5-10 million for him if Madrid do well this season and win the Champions League or something like that. We've nobody to replace him with. shortsightedness kills us yet again. Our season is practically done for already because we have no true midfielders and the season's barely 4 weeks old.

I'd probably prefer Capoue, much cheaper! Ba would be nice though. Torres worked really hard again last night, but he never really got a look in.

I think Moyes would probably find someone for £500,000 knowing him :) it's incredible how he does it every year.

I actually think the Juventus midfield is right up there, it's not as good as Barcelona or Madrid probably, but i'd say it's up there just behind with Bayern Munich. Add into the mix their incredible defence, Buffon, striking options in Vucinic, Giovinco, Matri and Quagliarella.. I picked them to make the semi's, I think they're good enough.

Well, we won't win the Champions League, or the League. The FA and League Cup are more than possible I think. Since we won the FA Cup in '97 it feels like we've dominated it, if we go a couple of years without it it's a bit of a shock!

I do think it's a bit of a shame we have these wonderful forward players, to think the likes of Marin, Mata and Moses weren't starting tonight, but having a double pivot who can't provide the base and service to have them fire us to the biggest trophies.. it's not ideal. Hopefully we can stay in touch and sort it in January, then we're back in with a chance.

Yes, but shouldn't this have been done already?

It reminds me of what happened with Modric (where for art thou Moutinho?) - i.e., getting shot of such key personnel and not prioritizing and replacing them properly is a dangerous game. I know I'd far rather have Moutinho at Spurs than Lloris - the GK position being not being quite as crucial a situation for us.

Anyhow, FWIW, Fellaini IMO would be an excellent capture for anyone.

Well, you would of thought so! :) as I said, the club have been looking at Fellaini for years, even this summer it seemed like he was discussed. Not really sure why we got rid of half the midfield, then sat back and did nothing.

Surely it weakens our position now? Teams will know how short we are, that automatically adds 10% to the price of players we go in for.

"Roman Abramovich demanded answers from players and coaching staff at Chelsea’s training ground on Thursday after they blew a two-goal lead against Juventus.

He spoke with players, coaches and manager Roberto Di Matteo on the training field to ask why the European champions could not hold on to a lead against the Italians on Wednesday after Oscar had scored twice in the first half."

Hey Roman, i'll give you a clue! You have a very weak midfield at this level, who can't control the game on any level. He's surprised we didn't control the game? No point blaming the players or manager, it's the lopsided nature of the squad that he's built. Sounds to me like he didn't like what he saw, shame really, he's going to be seeing alot more of it I feel.

Your first choice keeper is 41. Getting a world class keeper like Lloris now rather than panicking when Hellboy goes off to fight evil in retirement is prolly a good move.

(That said, Friedel was declared bankrupt last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if he went on and on and on and on and on)

Well, Paulo Gazzaniga's glorious ascent to becoming Argentina's no. 1 continued today with his league debut for Southampton in their 4-1 battering of Aston Villa. But they've just signed Artur Boruc so I don't know how many more games he's going to get :(

I count our blessings that he came to England by ferry rather than Eurostar, otherwise he'd have probably signed for some **** team like Millwall or Brentford last summer. We're the closest league team to Dover!

Two cracking games in prospect today - City and Arsenal and Liverpool and Man U.

Arsenal looked bloody amazing to me when I saw them (Arteta + Cazorla = $$$), City are top quality all over, then Rodgers' new evolving Liverpool V the mighty Utd with all the heated background and influences.

So, who is going to be jostling with the surprise package that is West Brom up around the top later today? BTW, hmm, Lukaku and Clarke doing well there eh Fena?

No surprise there! Clarke is fantastic, defensively he's very good. Lukaku doing well isn't really a surprise either, in open games he'll have no problems, he still has so much to learn though, both with and without the ball.

We're seeing with Torres that teams are looking to defend for their lives and not give us anything, which is what everyone does against the top teams really. Torres is pretty smart, his movement is still very good, but even half chances are hard to come by at the moment.

It's good for Lukaku to be getting a bit more experience, although Torres as the only striker is a bit worrying I have to admit. I'm not sure how we're going to make it through a whole season with him as the only one at the club.

valencia lost his balance and got a PK whereas Suarez was clearly tripped when evans went for the ball but got his ankle; I am convince Suarez will not get a call in the box this year. Halsey pretty much gave majority of the 50/50 decisions to utd.

Outplayed citeah, outplayed the gunners for one half, outplayed sunderland, and dominated the game today even with 1 men sent off and yes 2 frucking points.

Pretty much, sad but true.

I remember back when UEFA used to mention players names at referee meetings, they always used to single out Drogba and some say it could of contributed to him not getting a blatant penalty in the famous Barcelona semi (what happened to the referee on the other 3, I have no idea).

Hazard won a couple of penalties, fairly, in the first few games. Since then he should of had a couple (against Juventus and QPR) and the referee ignored them. Last year he won the most penalties throughout Europe, referee's know that and are probably less likely to give them this year.

It seems like if you have a reputation for diving, or winning them fairly, you're going to be scrutinised alot more.

Yeah, with social media, blogs, message boards, utubes, I am sure referees conduct their own investigation on certain players such as Suarez, Drogba, and others. Perhaps Suarez should just stop complaining and exaggerating.

It just infuriates me how slur alex can make a comment about only getting 1 PK at Anfield since the inception of Premier league days before the match and only to see his statement impacted the outcome of the match.

Not sure who was more shocking, Halsey sunday or last year 2 soft pk by Webb.

Does the FA meet with the referees? Do the refs get evaluated at year end?

What a bad week of officiating, last week Huddlestone got sent off (think it was halsey too??) but red card was rescinded, then the 2 disallowed goals at Goodison, then sunday's abhorrent decisions.

That's the one. Ballack did that after the 4th penalty wasn't given, after Eto'o had put his arm above his head to block Ballack's shot that was heading for the top corner. I remember Gullit making an attempt to play devils advocate afterwards in regard to why they weren't given, he gave up half way through and just shook his head in disbelief!

A positive for Chelsea is you can play counterattack better than we can..Hazard/Oscar/Ramires all have pace and can expose space on the break better than anyone if our squad except Yaya.

For us Aguero wasn't up to speed and Sinclair was the only one really able to build an attack quickly, Silva slowed down a lot of those counters taking too many touches which is exactly where Chelsea would succeed I think. Still, seems Arse will outplay/outpossess just about everyone this year so it's up to how well the defenders play to keep them out.

It's going to be interesting. No doubt the two Manchester teams are favourites for the title, but Arsenal and Chelsea are probably the only teams that can possibly challenge.

We do seem to do our best when we counter attack, there could be more chance for Torres that way and Hazard could be dangerous. I'd want Ramires and Bertrand out wide to make the most of any counter attacking opportunities, although that means leaving Mata out, he's been alot better than Hazard in the last few games so that's a risk.

I think to win we will need a moment of genius along the way, like Oscar produced against Juventus. I can see it being fairly one sided in Arsenal's favour too though, like when they beat us easily over the Christmas period a few years ago.

Bertrand looks better with every game, first chance to see Azpilicueta and Moses starting. Romeu getting his first game in forever, fingers crossed he can convince Di Matteo he should be playing instead of Mikel in future.

Fulham away is difficult to predict, they seem to be a team that is a bit inconsistent. If they decide to have one of their good days then absolutely, they can get something from the game.

I think all 4 title challengers have tough games this weekend, should be entertaining.

Why even go through an inquiry and stretch it all out for 4 days this week? They wanted to nail him for it, they did.

Dave, if I understand correctly, I think the Suarez situation differs in that there was 'multiple use' , whereas Terry only said it on the one occasion.

My issue isn't that they found him guilty but that it all took so long. I also think the deterrent against such completely unacceptable language should be greater, ie, the FA punishments should be more severe.
