The Canadian Team is training at Jarry Park in Montreal for the Davis Cup encounter with South Africa, to take place there on Court Banque Nationale this coming weekend:

I checked with the facility, the team was already out at 10 am today on the courts. I guess they'll be around most of the week at this time and later.

Milos Raonic tweeted, asking for our support at the matches.

Go Canada!.

BTW, Filip Peliwo, the new US Open juniors champion, and the Wimbledon juniors champion (congratulations!!!), is going to be one of the training partners. Great experience for him.

So Peliwo is the first junior since Edberg to reach the finals of all four slams in a year.

Could this guy have a better future than Raonic?

Raonic - Roddick expo in TO

Toronto, September 10, 2012 – Tennis Canada and Lagardere Unlimited announced Monday that the "Face-Off" will return to Canada in November with a new roster of superstar tennis players. Joining Canada's No. 1 singles player Milos Raonic, will be former world No. 1 Andy Roddick, who recently retired from tournament play at the US Open, 15-time Grand Slam champion and recent US Open titlist Serena Williams and current world No. 3 and 2012 Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanksa.

The "Face-Off" will be held in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on November 16 at 7 p.m.

^^^ From above website:

Ticket prices (incl. HST) range from $35-$150 (plus FMF and service charges) with a family 4-pack available for as low as $25 per ticket

Not too bad - I would have considered it, except I won't pay to see that pair of women.

Oh nice! Yeah as a reference Federer won Wimbledon juniors in 1998 and won his first slam in 2003. So five years. Thats how much time we should give Peliwo before expecting him to compete at the highest level. So yeah I expect to hear about him in 2017...if he does make it that far.

Federer was also 16 when he won the Wimby juniors, Peliwo is 18. Thats a real difference as by time Federer was 18, he had already been in the 4R of a slam.

Dont get me wrong, Peliwo has obvious potential, and he seems to be aware that junior success really isnt too significant for the future (Hey Donald Young). For him a good goal would be to try and make the Rogers Cup next year. Barring a meteoric rise he probably wont get a direct wild card, but I assume hed get a WC for qualies.

And about the Face-Off in Toronto, though I am in school in Montreal, I hope to be able to make it home to TO to watch Milos and Roddick. I have seen practically every top player in the past decade play (Andre, Hewitt, Nalby, Fed, Rafa, Djoker, Murray, Haas, Del Po) except my idol Andy

Peliwo works too hard out there to be anything other than a reasonably good top 100 player, but he might make some money. Good to add depth to the Canadian program. If he had a Raonic serve, things might be different.

Wow did we ever draw the short end of the stick. Good news is that Raonic can beat anyone on a fast surface, maybe not healthy Nadal but everyone else from Spain, so hopefully we can get a couple points and make it close.

When are the matches to be played? Can we schedule it in January or February in Edmonton or better Yellowknife and see how the Spanish guys do?

It means nothing. Gael Monfils won junior titles at AO, RG and W 2004, but to date has never won a slam.

He reached a slam SF and top ten status. Sucess doesn't always mean winning Slams.

Being in a top 100 is an achievement itself. Peliwo can hopefully at least have a Benneteau career of top 50 for many years.

The slams are where it counts. If you can't win slams at the top level, you'll be seen as an underachiever. Nalbandian is a prime example of this (though he wasn't really that talented in the first place). A Benneteau career is hardly a good thing, having won no titles ever.

Yea making a living off tennis, traveling, and being top 50 in the world is nothing to brag about. Righttttt :roll:

Benneteau has a win over Federer btw

Hoping Carpet is still acceptable or anything fast so Nadal doesn't play. Bring on Lopez and Verdasco.

There is still time

there's no parquet floor in such venues any more, unfortunately:)
Is it legal to play at the Rogers cup venues - outside during winter. UEFA cup - Moscow team played outside in the dead of Russian winter - Don't think the Brazilian players were too happy.

Although, not sure if the Canadian player would be happy either risk of injury would be high!

Yes, and Nadal has failed time and time again to consistently win slams on surfaces other than clay.

A great opportunity for Canada to lose 0-5, seeing as how Raonic was never able to break Nadal's serve in 4 consecutive sets (I assume if Nadal plays they'll put Raonic against him), and Nadal/Lopez/Granollers are much better doubles players than Raonic/Pospisil.

1-4...you are forgetting that Canada has one of the greatest doubles player. Nestor with anyone can pull off the win.

Milosh is too lanky and doesn't manipulate the opponents position well. Popsipil get too angry and makes stupid shot selections....though Nestor helps get him through those moments.

Still think Nestor would beat any of the pairings from Spain.

It on hard court...so I give Milos a chance to beat anyone but Nadal. Ferrer may still beat Milos....but not in straights.

At best a 2-3 loss....Hope for Nadal to skip the tie and Milosh sweeps Lopez?Verdasco.....and Ferrer.

Ferrer likely will beat Raonic (Ferrer beat Isner earlier this year with no real problems).

For a great doubles pairing you need a pair of players who are both competent, and Nestor + other Canadian doesn't seem to satisfy that criterion, so I'd expect them to lose to a much more competent team of two great Spanish players paired together (Nadal/Lopez).

I hope Nadal players Raonic, so we can see if Raonic is finally able to break Nadal's serve (could not break Nadal's serve in 4 consecutive sets, Tokyo 2010-2011).

Raonic won't break serve....Nadal defends too well and knows how to place the serve in a way where he starts the point in the correct position.

Raonic has a chance only in a tiebreaker.

If it somehow went to 5 sets (with 4 tiebreakers played), then Nadal would automatically win, since he prefers playing a set with no tiebreak (he said so after his match against Isner, Roland Garros 2011).

In 2010, Nadal beat a qualifier ranked 170+, 6-4, 6-4, converting on 2 break points when Raonic had 5. Truly an amazing accomplishment...

Eugenie Bouchard's success

Eugenie Bouchard's coming of age in Charleston

2 Q skins
3 main draw skins
including that of Sam Stosur (61 20 ret).

with great all-court play, good serving, aggressive baseline, good drop shots. Spectacular.

And that's without saying anything about her great looks. Right now, she and Muguruza are my favorites in that department:)

As a result, she'll be ranked in the 60s, and will play Jankovic in the QF. I will give her a serious chance in that match.

Congratulations, Ginny! (even though she is from Quebec, her mother's Irish, I learned)
