One handed backhand players (Jeff Dadamo and Daniel Kosakowski) finaled at the Costa Mesa futures event this week. So out of the entire field, the cream rose to the top. Kosakowski a former UCLA player also won the Clairmont event last week.

Agreed.
The single-handed BH is the most beautiful shot in the game, particularly when it's executed by the likes of Fed, Haas, Gasquet and Stan.

Reading the Old Testament.
Avoiding pork and shellfish.
Love wooden racquets.
One is the appropriate number of hands on the backhand drive, Bh slice and BH volley.
Steel bike frame. Riding it as transportation, not just for a workout.
Leather saddle.
Not shaving often.
Calling someone on the phone.
Writing a letter.
Asking a girl out on a date in person.
Cooking food at home.
Riding a horse every now and then.
Walking to a friend's house.
Playing catch with your kid....or a neighbor's kid.
Growing a vegetable or an herb or two ... at home.
Reading the actual book rather than just looking at the 'notes'.
Wearing Levi's jeans.
Leather grips.
Telling the truth.
Having an axe and splitting your own wood.
Drinking good ol' water.
Eating vegetables.
Road trips.
Living within your means.
Ivan Lendl.
Cotton tee shirts.
Music on vinyl.
Reading a book.

These are all things that are becoming cool again.

^Manly man. And not in the wimpy hipster sense, I assume.

I am trying to understand in simple terms what hipster means/implies. Can anyone simplify it for me.

From wiki, but doesn't make sense to someone from Asia, who doesn't know what independent music, or non-mainstream this or that means.

Hipster refers to a subculture of young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers that appeared in the 1990s. The subculture is associated with independent music, a varied non-mainstream fashion sensibility, liberal or independent political views, alternative spirituality or atheism/agnosticism and alternative lifestyles. Interests in media would include independent film, magazines such as Clash, and websites like Pitchfork Media, and various parts of Tumblr.[1]

Hipster culture has been described as a "mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior."[1] Christian Lorentzen of Time Out New York argues that "hipsterism fetishizes the authentic" elements of all of the "fringe movements of the postwar era—beat, hippie, punk, even grunge," and draws on the "cultural stores of every unmelted ethnicity," and "regurgitates it with a winking inauthenticity."[2]

2hbs should be illegal

actually, all two handed strokes. It ain't baseball or golf--racquets aren't that heavy.

AND for what it's worth, computers may be quite harmful to our brains in key ways and it's certainly debatable whether they're improving our lives and making us any smarter. Lazier, and more "efficient" mainly. Read the research. Nicholas Carr's new book "The Shallows" is excellent on this subject, by the way.

I saw Kosakowski play a local futures not too long ago, but I have to say...as much as I love the 1-hander...his game is very one dimensional. Heavy topspin loopers on literally EVERY SHOT. I saw him bounce an easy overhead so he could hit a forehand instead and get passed. I also almost never saw him use a slice in a 2 hour+ match.

Luckily a Canadian 1-hander, Phillip Bester ended up winning it, and he was a lot more versatile.

"I always play tennis, and when I do... I hit a one handed back hand."

The most interesting man in the world.

Real men dont use a backhand. If you need to use both sides of the racket face to win a match then you might as well quit. If you're too slow to run around to hit a forehand then I have no respect for you.

How long ago was this. I would pick Daniel over just about anyone currently competing at the futures level. His demeanor on the court is very even keeled. He doesn't show any negativity, and I think this helps his game. From what I saw he was able to flatten the ball out and hit clean winners when the opportunity presented it self. So I'd say his shoot selection is improving.

No, REAL "real men" never hit forehands because they're too easy. REAL "real men" run around their forehands and only hit one-handed backhands. :)

Agree.

And long live heavy mid-sized racquets with lead under the bumperguards!

Senti basically a hipster is a guy who thinks doing things differently is cool. As in if I read a book which wasn't popular and after I read it it becomes popular I say I'm a hipster I read it before it was cool so I'm cool not mainstream almost like a anti-bandwaggoner

A bit on hipsters

I live in Portland, OR. Also known as The People's Republic of Portland. And home of "Portlandia," a wonderful send-up of all things hipster:)

One notable aspect of hipster BS (as liberal as I am) is the posing and lack of decent, nice manners. In Portland, it's "hip" to be rude. One of these days, I'm going to have a tee shirt made up that says "spare me your wry detachment." The problem is, as I see it, 20 and 30 somethings haven't earned their skepticism. AND there is no excuse for bad behavior and rudeness. I don't give a damn about your tattoos and piercings-- do whatever floats your boat-- but basic kindness is everything in this world.

Apologies for the rant.

Whoever hits 1HBHs is one of "us". Whoever hits 2HBHs is one of "them".

There are now more and more of "them", like zombies. Can't kill them all......

But I have successfully converted two 2HBHers into 1HBHers this year. What have YOU done?
