Yeahhhh!

It was Rose for me, when he won 17 and 18 to get the point, it was meant to be :)

I've watched every second of it, booked Friday off work especially. The first two days were long and painful, today kind of makes up for it ;)

What a choke by the US. Stricker in particular.

Stricker and Furyk both choked big time. Both of them DLIII's captain picks.
Brandt Snedeker and dustin Johhson did ok.
Should've gone with David Toms and Stewart Cink in place of Furyk and Toms though. David toms is so solid in match play I remember him crushing Chris Demarco in the match play championship a few years back, just awesome.

Team USA got too cocky. ESPN already crowned them the winners after Saturday. I'll give it to Europe. They fought and were clutch in the close matches. McIlroy almost was late for the tee time, had no practice, and still won his match.

Europe won Sunday's matches 8.5 to 3.5, with Europe's top 5 winning all their matches. That's insane.

I though only americans called everything "the greatest ever", 2 minutes after its over.

One things for sure, today's weather was the greatest ever where I live.

I also made the greatest London Broil ever for dinner tonight. It was epic.

Maybe! Although the biggest comeback of all time away from home is more than worthy of the title "greatest Ryder Cup win, ever", no? :)

I'd say the biggest comeback of all time, in one of the biggest competitions is worthy of being called one of the best comebacks of all time, sure :)

It's equal to, if not greater than Man Utd beating Munich in '99 and Liverpool beating Milan in '05 for me personally.

What a 3 days! I was glued to the coverage, took off class on Friday morning to go watch. Amazing stuff. Stricker was awful, but credit to the Europeans for not giving up hope when all was but lost.

I felt as though Tiger played like crap today, though.

Even after beating Arsenal yesterday, then beating New Zealand at the cricket World Cup.. The hammering we were getting at the Ryder Cup made it a bad day.

Today, is a good one :)

As for Tiger, yeah I think I heard he didn't make a birdie all day? It was the case upto the half way point of the back 9 I think. Still, pleased for Molinari to more than hold his own after Tiger destroyed him in the singles 2 years ago.

I don't think they were that arrogant, I agree. Europe had a big lead 2 years ago and America nearly pulled it back, so both teams knew everything was still to play for.

I just think Europe started to play the way they can on the last day, what was disappointing about the first two days was that most of the players were letting themselves down, playing way below their best. We had fourball pairings who took 13 holes to make a birdie between them, it was painfully bad at times.

Today we played to our potential, all the blue on the board got the American players nervous, the fans felt it and weren't as loud etc.. The home crowed can be a huge advantage when things are going well, but when they're quiet, it has a huge impact the other way.

The margin was razor-thin so every match had consequences but Sunday doesn't play out as it did without Poulter's outrageous putting on the last five holes Saturday. The man has giant stones!

You're kidding me, right? 8 years ago maybe...

There was nothing wrong with the picks. Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler were the only other people who you could argue for getting a captain's pick, but neither had been in great form of late.

Dustin Johnson did fine by the way. He was one of the three who actually won his singles match, which makes him a success in my book. Sneds was a total dud this week, but the pressure ain't for everyone. Even though he won the FedEx cup convincingly last week, he didn't exactly have nerves of steel there either (hit his tee shot on the last hole off of the grandstand and limped in with a bogey, but still won by 3 shots).

That is one of the best comebacks ever in sport. Team USA LOL what a bunch of pathetic chockers they thought they only had to turn up, arrogant americans. So happy for jose and the team this ryder cup should be dedicated to seve.

USA as a whole didn't really "choke". The first 4 matches were all incredibly competitive, well played matches. Justin Rose completely stole the point from Mickelson with three amazing holes to close. Furyk and Stricker are the only ones I'd say really "choked". And I think it's funny that Euro's want to call them all arrogant because I can't think of any of the American players, save Tiger, who could even remotely be called cocky or arrogant.

Tiger didn't play great. But he didn't lose, today. And I would guarantee that had the match not already been decided before he finished out the hole, Tiger would have walked away with the win, 1-up. He totally gave up on the last putt because he knew it really didn't matter.

The Europeans played great today (giving them all the credit in the world), and they STILL should have lost. That's how big the lead was. It was crushing for me, as a fan, but it's still the most exciting three days of golf I've gotten to enjoy in a while. I really look forward to the Ryder Cup two years from now.

Me too :) Europeans live for the Ryder Cup though, 20 minutes after it finished the commentators were already looking forward to the next one!

I think next time will be even better, America will be even stronger for sure.

I went in to today fully expecting to lose, my hope was for us to do ourselves justice and finally start playing to our level. The Americans played great the first 2 days and more than deserved the huge lead, but we were seriously awful. We have 4 of the top 5 players in the rankings, to put on the display they did was embarrassing.

Players like Lawrie and Hanson aren't glamorous, but they've been fantastic for the last few years and were in great form coming into the week. The first two days for them was very bad, at least Lawrie decided to turn up on Sunday though :)

I find myslef not wanting the US to win these things. Most of the US players just dont grasp what the Ryder cup means as a team. The Euros really care about it and they seem to get along with each other.

They say Tiger makes it pretty well known he only will play with Stricker and Furyk. I think they tried to pair him with Phil once and that didnt work out either. He has a terrible record at the Ryder cup but is 4-1-1 all time in singles. Maybe nobody like playing with him.

I know that last match was pointless but Molinari putted 3 ft long and Tiger didnt concede. Then Tiger blows his past and is still out and looks at Molinari like its good. Molinari made him putt it and he missed and then conceded Molinaris putt. Im sure if Tiger would have given that to Molinari at first he would have had to putt that last won and wuold have won the match. Molinari had the worst chip I had ever seen at 17 though he should have lost that match. But it didnt matter becuase Kaymer took advantage.

^^^Dufner and Kuchar were also a little tight on conceding "gimmes" down the stretch. Mickleson, on the other hand, was very "cheery" as Rose nailed shots that sealed his doom. I guess you have to have been there before to know how to react under pressure.

In Tigers case he didnt concede and then after his putt was further way wanted to concede and seemed a little upset when Molinari was gonna make him putt it. And Id say in a regular match thats how you play it. But at that point just half the hole take your point and let Molinari jopin his boys in putting on the darren clarke visor hats and driking beers.

Dufner may be angry but who would ever know his face doesnt have muscles. Theres a comcast commercial with him in it with like a 100year old beard. Same expression. Its a grwat comercial.

^^^It's hard to analyze Eldrick's psyche these days...I'm sure he was hoping for Kaymer to miss so he could possibly step up and erase some of his RC legacy. Once that putt dropped and the celebration started, the playing out of the rest of the 18th should have been ready-steady-go golf. End it quickl, no matter what the result.

It was astonishing to watch.

10-6 down but if there's enough points available then anything is possible. Maybe with Europe playing maybe for pride with nothing to lose takes that pressure off. Plus, you only have to look at the intensity of Poulter, Rose and McIlroy to see how much it meant, talk about having the eye of the tiger.

As weve seen in many tennis matches, getting that elusive winning point is not always easy.

As far as GB is concerned, our sporting acheivements have been amazing for us this year and choosing a Sports Personality of the Year is impossible, they should get everyone on the stage and give each an award.

Wasn't it 10-4 at one point? Before Donald/Garcia and Poulter/McIlroy won the last two matches on Saturday to get it to 10-6.

As for the sporting year for Britian, I read this in an article earlier..

Has 2012 been the best year for sport in Great Britain? After this, there can surely be no doubt. The Olympics and Paralympics, the title decided with the last kick of the domestic football season, Chelsea the Champions of Europe, Bradley Wiggins the first Briton to win the Tour de France, Andy Murray the first tennis Grand Slam winner in 76 years.

And now this: Europe's Brookline, but without the boorish conclusion. How did they do it?

Says it all :)

And Wiggins the first person ever to win the TDF and Olympic time trial in the same year. And with huge sideburns which must create some serious drag.

A massive acheivement for a small country by comparison.

And I agree, rename the programme Sports Personalities of the Year. All are winners.

Now stop, I'm filling up lol.

Haha, maybe so. Still, even if you aren't a Chelsea fan, it's hard to deny it was pretty special.

Coming from 2-0 down against Barcelona with 10 men, beating Munich in their own stadium after equalising in the closing minutes, and beating them on penalties etc.. Oh and the first London club to win the trophy, not too bad :)

I think everyone wanted Chelsea to lose :) they don't like the club, Terry, Lampard and Drogba are universally disliked, people also wanted to see Spurs get the Champions League place I think. That's fair enough really.

I don't think it was as negative as it was made out to be, we just couldn't really get close to the midfield of Barcelona or Bayern. If we had the ability to pass it around and keep it in the middle, i'm sure we would! Mikel is never going to run rings round Schweinsteiger, Kalou could never go on the runs that Ribery and Robben do etc..

As a fan, the semis and final was 300 minutes of wave after wave of pressure. That's why i've been so vocal about strengthening the middle, so we can defend by keeping the ball and doing things with it, instead of giving it away and being pushed back. That's why it got ugly, it wasn't a specific rope-a-dope tactic I don't think.

USA won 16 more holes than Europe. We just didn't win any of the close matches. It would be like losing 6-1, 6-1, 6-7, 6-7, 6-7.

Plus, let's be fair, not to take anything away from the Euros but if Tiger wins his match (which he should've) it would've been 14-14 and the Euros would've only retained on a technicality and not 'won' outright, which I'll never understand. Why not go to extra holes to determine an outright winner instead of ties arbitrarily going to the defending champ?

To be honest most of the singles matches Europe won you would have favored them to win:

Donald vs Watson- Last years best player in the World would be the odds on favorite.

Poulter vs Simpson- I favored Poulter, he is always really tough in match play type format, as well as team format. Plus was on fire this event.

McIlroy vs Bradley- Well Bradley was having a great event so it was a tough call, but it is still hard to bet against the current best player in the World.

Mickelson vs Rose- OK this was a surprise I admit. Mickelson played well though, still lost.

Snedeker vs Lawrie- meh, did anyone know. Both had sucked this event so far.

Furyk vs Garcia- I would have favored Garcia for this one. Furyk is getting a little long in the tooth these days.

Kuchar vs Westwood- definitely would have favored Westwood who has been a top 3 or 4 golfer for years now in this one.

Stricker vs Kaymer- Stricker has been poor this event so far, so not surprised he lost even to the slumping former World #1 Kaymer who was sat out of most previous matches so hard to guage form here.

The U.S also won one I wouldnt have picked them to win with Z. Johnson beating McDowell which basically negates the Rose vs Mickelson result.

That's true I suppose. I wasn't too surprised to see Rose win though, he's number 5 in the world and has been very good the last year or two. Same for Lawrie, he's been incredible on the European tour for awhile now.

I was very worried when it became clear it would come down to Kaymer, he was tempted to pull out, his form has been that bad. He said he wouldn't want to let them team down. Luckily he didn't and was the one to get the win to retain the trophy.

I would think that the Ryder Cup serves as a bi-annual reminder to the British that they needed to rally the rest of the continent in order to compete.

-------

Sunday made me sick to my stomach but still, it was a great event. Congrats to Europe.

Medinah, which I think is often an overrated course, was at its very best. Gorgeous. What a venue.

The "front loading" of Sunday's singles played into European hands. I thought this Saturday night when I saw Sunday's match ups. DL III should have put Stinker and Furyk out 1-2 as cannon fodder at least. Old men like to play early, too and SS didn't need to wait around the putting green all morning thinking about how bad he had been all weekend. Bubba 3rd would have kept the crowd's powder dry longer, possibly giving the home team a well timed pick up. I think he would have been a good match up with Rory. Finally, if Bradley went out with Woods Saturday afternoon in place of Stricker, I think they win their match and leave the Europeans no hope.

If you have the title you should have to outright lose. I dont have a problem with the tie goes to the champ.

Let's be honest. He gave up mentally once the Euros celebrated. If everything was on the line, you really think Tiger misses those last putts? I doubt it.

Yeah that is true. Before the day I thought the U.S would win too. I guess I just looked at the matchups in hindsight and they werent that surprising of results which is why I would feel unfair just saying the U.S choked it away, but can understand why others do, especialy losing some matches on the 18th green. The first 4 matches of the day were all really good golf I thought though, the U.S lost each, and it was already tied.

Let that be a lesson to Europe. But without the continental shot in the arm, particularly from the Spaniards, GB&I wouldn't have fared much differently since than they had previous to the union - being dominated while claiming an odd victory every decade or so.
