The "What's Wrong With Her?" Thread

What I like about Radwanska is that she plays with her brains. She has a high tennis IQ. .

we've known that for some time already, what I liked today was her improved 1'st serve and pace of her ground strokes. She didn't go for a "broke" like Kerber did on every shot, but when she had an opportunity, she really gave it to her. And her 1'st serve was working very well, she had many winners after good 1st serve. I think this match, along with Miami final and 2nd set final @ Wimbledon were her finest performances up to date

Haven't seen the match today. But aggressive is how Kerber should've come out against Agie. In their Wimby semi, she played too passively, allowing Agie to come to net too often to finish off points. Seems like the Pole is winning the strategic cat-and-mouse aspect of this match-up.

and that's how Kerber was playing, aggressively, hitting very flat, hard, going for lines, and with that come errors of course. First few games Angie had some great sharp angled shots but after that Aga had adjusted and did not give her many easy "sitters" putting some pace on her own shots. Second set was really good, many tight games, 6-1 score doesn't do justice to Kerber, however, it just shows of Radwanska's ability to win tight and close games

Li and Stosur will be neck and neck going for that 8th spot.

Most Improved Player is on the line between Kerber and Errani. Both are in the race to finish for #5. I want to think that Kerber will finish #6 and Errani #7 if Kvitova returns to GOAT-form on indoor hardcourts. But knowing Kvitova, she'll crumble under the pressure to defend something.

Azarenka can almost smell Year-End #1. Only 3 retirements/walkovers this year. LOL

Will Radwanska defend Tokyo and win her 4th Tier-1 title in the past year? Or will Petrova turn back the clock and actually win something?

she already defended good chunk of Tokyo share, and if she continuous her form, no reason to think she can't repeat that in China

If she defends a good chunk of her points during this swing, makes it through the round robins at WTF and then improves on her Australian and French titles, I see her as number one going into Wimby next year. Assuming Serena, Maria or Vika split events between now and then, with no one of them dominating.

Petrova's third-set serving was Serena-level of clutchness. Agie was serving well also. BUUUT. Had game point to stay on serve at 4-3. Two double faults in a row. Loses the next point to get broken. That's all it took. Congrats to Petrova. Back from the dead!

What is wrong with the WTA would be a good question about now. A 30 year old has been about 5 years past the end of her prime, with nowhere near the power or speed she used to have (nothing like Serena at almost the same age, Petrova's body has clearly taken too many injuries and she cant even physically play near the same tennis as her top 10 days) can win a Premier Mandatory event, LOL! The way the WTA is these days Petrova might win a slam next year at 31 too.

Serving like she did in the third set, she might deserve to.

Congrats to Petrova winning a Premier 5 event. Seriously I didn't think she'd beat Radwanska. WTA still an unscripted soap opera.

I don't think she did, Radwanska beat herself, at some point Petrova was hitting a moon with her balls and Aga didn't take an advantage

Coach told her what to do and she didn't, as simple as that

I am happy for her. Petrova has a lot of game even now at 30 and she has had a lot of ups and downs in her career, although most were her own doing because she has a track record as a headcase. Then add in her laundry list of injuries I think it says a lot about her abilities she can serve like that and win a fairly high level tournament at 30 years old. Sure compare her now to her 2005-2008ish self or even her early 2010 self she has clearly aged but its not like she did nothing in that final...she played well, yes Aga faltered but Petrova was all clutch in the 3rd set. Sad thing is she has never been able to do that at a major and get a break.

Petrova is in far better shape, leaner than in many years. Noticed this partnering with Kirilenko. Nadia was in SW mode 1st set.

Petrova has been playing really well lately, just watched the match and she played a phenomenal first set and served great in the latter stages of the third set

Petrova is in 2nd place for aces to Serena. Not sure how Aga served 7 aces.

That's impressive second only to Serena, i was surprised to see Radwanska dishing out some aces because from the matches I have seen her play she hardly does this. Let's see if Petrova can keep this up, i hope she does

Vera drops from 19 in the rankings down to 48. im not gonna lie that is about where she should be the way she is playing

Vera's missed much of the season with injuries she had late last year. Her and Petrova have kept doctors in business all these years. Hope she'll return healthy next year.

Petrova went back to her wacky self. From winning Tokyo to getting spanked in Beijing.

Oh and Richard Williams is a daddy again at 70.

What struck me is that she was 6-0 against Li before this match. Weird that she'd get her first loss to her immediately after winning of the biggest tournaments of her career.

Hsieh blows an enormous lead over Woz. She was up a set and 3-0 but ends up losing 6-0 in the third. Goerges found some form today and beat Sam who has been in relatively good form. Jelena makes it past round 2?

I don't frequent this thread too often, but it seems to me that Lisicki is going to need a drastic overhaul of her game. Ditch her father as coach, get a little bit lighter and quicker around the court, develop a 2nd serve that's reliable, and probably most important...good shot selection!

Wozniacki officially won't qualify for the YEC at Istanbul. Lost to Kerber in the R16 at Beijing. A year ago, she was World #1.

watching the li-peng match and this is what annoys me about li, she'll play three great shots in a row then the errors creep out

Quarters Beijing:
Kerber-Sharapova
Li-Radwanska
Azarenka-Oprandi
Bartoli-Navarro

Kerber-Sharapova is intriguing. Both have beaten each other this year. Mistress of defense vs the ball-bashing banshee. Kerber has scalped a lot of top 10's this year. Sharapova wants to keep up with Azarenka in the race. I'm actually picking Kerber here.

Li-Radwanska is another offense vs defense clash. Unless Li gets off to a roaring start I think Radwanska has this.

Azarenka basically got a bye with facing Oprandi.

Admittedly I haven't seen Navarro play in over a year. Bartoli plays every match the same manner. I say Bartoli wins this, but I find her game quite painful to watch.

The last two matches between Radwanska and Li this year were dominated by Li, so I wouldn't be confident making any prediction. What's ridiculous is that Li had 16 DFs in her match today against Peng and still won (although Peng did have a chance to serve out the match). Sharapova circa 2009 would be proud.

problem with Rdwanska is Radwanska herself
she has what it takes to beat any one, and yes, she could have beaten Serena at wimby, and she definitely SHOULD have beaten Petrova in Tokyo
The problem is ...Radwanska
she has to muster some level of aggressiveness to progress

It's tough. When you see her playing someone like Kerber, she has many more opportunities to take control of points (usually by a well-placed groundstroke and approach), but against the big guns, her chances are few and far between. So she gets gun-shy.

Kerber-Sharapova is almost a toss up. Kerber seems to prefer playing players who hit harder than her where she can counterpunch rather than be forced to be the agressor. Good chance of an upset for Kerber, Maria isnt playing that well lately but does a good job fighting and bluffing her way through often.

Li is crap in Asia as you in the other thread, ErrorNa shows up in a big way on that continent. Radwanska wins. Li wont be that motivated knowing she is already into the WTA final anyway, and finally achieved her goal of a Premier Mandatory title this summer. She is a player who can only motivate herself on select occasions.

Azarenka to romp to semis and the title favorite here at this point.

Bartoli probably wins over Navarro, but Bartoli is always vurnerable to a possible upset by any good opponent.
