Comparing Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic since 2009

Since 2009, Federer has won 19 titles, 3 on clay, 2 on grass, 7 on hard, and 7 indoor. Nadal has won 19 titles, 14 on clay, 4 on hard, 1 on grass, and 0 indoor. Djokovic has won 20 titles, 4 on clay, 13 on hard, 1 on grass, and 2 indoor.

Remarkable that old man Federer has kept pace with his younger rivals. Also remarkable that Nadal has not won a single indoor tournament.

well, kudos to Rog for sure. Not surprised with Nadal. Indoor is his weakest surface. I don't think he'll ever win anything indoor. Djoko peaked in 2011, his 2009/10 season was very mediocre (no slams, no big wins, lost his serve completely because of that stupid racket change etc.)

Both are quite remarkable, agreed. Rafa has only won 1 indoor tournament in his entire career.

I'm going to throw Murray's numbers into the ring as well: 16 titles, 13 on hard, 3 on grass - 2 indoor. Murray with the most grass titles since 2009.

Hard: Noel
Clay: Rafa
Indoor: Roger
Grass:Murray

The slam comparison is obviously all that matters-
Nadal 6 (3rg, 1ao, 1uso, 1wim)
Djokovic 4 (2ao, 1wim, 1uso)
Federer 4 (2wim, 1ao, 1rg)

6-1 6-3 6-0

Wow. And Nadal is the only player of that lot to win at least one of each slam since 2009, proving he is technically more diverse than Federer/Djokovic.

When all the courts play almost equally slow it's easier to win with a 1-dimensional game, no?

Think Murray is contesting Nole for king of Hard, particularly after winning the USO, and the fact that Murray is 4-3 against Djokovic on hard (including indoor that is). I'm not too convinced by the differentiation between HC indoor/outdoor, particularly when considering Murray vs Djoker

I am sorry but unlike the other 3, Murray hasn't won Wimbledon. So that kinda undermines his case for grass superiority.

Why even say that when it isn't true?

If anything Roger and Novak play well everywhere, whereas when Nadal doesn't have the elements outdoors to even the playing field he generally gets lit up.

See, I can do that too - the difference is my statement is true and everyone knows it.

It is staggering that in the period after Federer's reign and in the middle of Nadal's prime that only 2 Grand Slams separate them.

Federer's 4 slams:
2009 RG - Rafa injured, would go on to skip Wimbledon
2009 WIM - Rafa skipped it
2010 AO - Rafa retired from QF with injury
2012 WIM - Rafa lost 2nd Round and skipped Olympics/US Open

Not really staggering. Very understandable.

More diverse over a span of a few years, you ignore the previous years (except 2008) where he couldn't but a slam off clay

Nadal's Majorss:

2009 Australian Open - Federer mentally tired;
2010 Roland Garros - Federer out in the QF, mentally very tired
2010 Wimbledon - Federer out in the QF, way too mentally tired
2010 US Open - Federer mentally exhausted
2011 Roland Garros - Federer didn't took it seriously
2012 Roland Garros - Injured Federer lost in the SF, went to tank against Haas in Halle to prove that.

You see, using your logic is ridiculous.

Mentally tired or just not talented enough?

Keep trying. Yes, the only slam Fed didn't win during that time period was the US Open which he only won 5 times in a row.
Thanks for playing though. Next.

You forgot to mention that he was just a few points away from doing it, and winning all 4 majors in a row - something that Nadal's was never able to even get that close in his prime.

Federer keeping pace with players 5 years his junior, lol. Even after his prime he is still good enough to be the current #1.

Also those title counts tell me: Federer is the most all around player, Nadal is a clay court specialist, and Djokovic is a hard court specialist. (of course great players can win on any surface but its clear by looking at the number of titles on each surface where one is comfortable).

Wow. And Nadal is the only player of that lot to win at least one of each slam since 2009, proving he is technically more diverse than Federer/Djokovic.

But since 2003, Federer has won 2 slams 5 times each or more, and 3 slams 4 times each or more.

Nadal? Can't even get to 3 on his second best slam

Please dont bring in this lame logic/argument to this thread.

Do we really need to bring up Nadals record 6 consecutive final losses (3 being grand slams) to Djokovic????

Absolutely not. This was by far the worst ownage *in world history*, so please let's not go into this and remember :) RNadal :) as a mentally-tough competitor.

Nadal chose the wrong sport. He should have chosen golf instead.

some stats always manage to turn into a federer vs nadal argument. Surprised someone said federer wasn't talented enough, quite the opposite actually

that 'someone' is your typical member of 'Nadall troll brigade' aka as NSK/6:1/Bullzila etc', so I wouldn't put too much into it :).
