Steam 96, Potro's new racket, only 289 grams? I guess it will be more. Maybe 309?

Those are the specs given, I was surprised as well. Unless there's a typo and it's actually 298g... but still that's pretty light.

Time will tell.

Do you know length of Steam 96? Sounds a lot like Kpro Tour depending on length and stiffness.

Defanetley taking 99s for a demo when it comes out in a few months, interesting to see how 16x15 pattern hits...

To me, the old/present 'Steam" is already a very good frame; if I were to choose from the options, I would likely go for the heaviest iteration, :)

Anybody else thinking of stringing their racquet with fewer crosses? My racquet's 16x18 so I only have to skip 3 crosses but I wonder which ones would be best to skip.

There was a post on here a while back, might have been Travelrjim, where the guy skipped the outermost cross and main and got incredible spin... Or so the claim went.

I don't doubt it.

I'm dying to know the length and balance as well. SW would be icing on the cake.

I heard, from a reliable source, they are standard length (99 & 99S), 2 pts hl, and 11.3 oz strung. Don't know swing weight but with only 2 pts hl I'm guessing swing weight is bumped up from previous version.

I hope this blows the Juice 100 away. At 6 points HL and a 311 swingweight, there was no plowthrough. I'm anxious to hear final specs.

I will see the new line next Tuesday so will get a better idea then. Hoping, with the better paint scheme, that this will be a real winner. I'm looking more at the 16x18 pattern rather than the 16x15. Also hoping that the throat area is thinner than the current Steam. Will try to give an update next week.

I am interested in these racquets as well. I just started my career as a tennis pro and I am currently using the six.one team. I could probably benefit from having a larger head size with a little more power. We will be having a demo night with Wilson soon and I presume these racquets will be there. I will let you know what I find out.

Did you say your going to try the new steam 16x15? Lucky you ! Please give a review!

Could you take a gander at the Steam 96? The specs I got for this frame (weight, beam) puzzle me. Also could you check the length and balance?

I've heard that this frame is supposed to be very close to the BLX Tour so it can be slightly longer than standard but I couldn't confirm this.

Thanks in advance.

No. I will only get to view the new line. I won't be hitting any of the new racquets. Will try to convince the rep to get us some a little sooner than normal since I'm really interested in the Steam 99 16x18 and we've done we'll with Wilson in the past year.

Sure. I will get all the specs on the new Steam line and the Blade line. I'm assuming he will have all these. Hoping to get a catalog too. Also curious to see what else is coming from Wilson. Til Tuesday. :)

I've sometimes wondered why manufacturers were going 16x20, beginning with Babolat. I've just always had less feel with them. I also wanted to try those new Yonex frames but decided not to after seeing them also go 16x20. I never understood why and I wonder if they're scrambling to do the opposite now that these Wilsons are coming. 5 less crosses, that sounds like a lot especially if in a midsize.
Nice find! Makes it look like it's S-Team and not Steam. Spin Team maybe?

Couch did you have a chance to look up the specs of the Steam 96?

Should have it in the catalog. I'll try to look and reply with those specs a little later. If I remember, the 96 has a matte paint job similar to the Juice Pro. Really another nice feeling and looking stick.

Probably sorry to inform but the Steam 96 is 10.2 oz unstrung and 10.8 oz strung. I'm sure most on this forum would want a heavier weight. Both the Steam 99/99S are 11.3 oz strung.

Blade 98-

16x19 is 11.2 oz strung
18x20 is 11.3 oz strung

Both
20.6 mm flat beam and 2 pts hl strung balance

Blade 93-

18x20 and 11.4 oz strung, 20.2 mm flat beam

96 seems too light

Agreed, I don't know why they can't just give this particular mold some heft and leave it at 27 in. They have produced 3 duds in a row with this mold and this will probably be another. KPro Tour, BLX Pro Tour & Juice Pro, none have lasted very long.

Depends what you're looking for really...

I agree that stock it will probably be, like you call it, dud.

However as a platform for customizing it can be close to perfect.

My thought exactly. It seems built for customization.

10.8oz strung for the Steam 96? WHAT?! I think 11 is too light but not even 11....Wilson what are you doing? I'd have to get a leather grip and who knows how much lead tape to get it up to a decent weight, and by that point the racquet would be the opposite of maneuverable.

Ok getting really excited now.....the new steam 99s is really exciting....first playtest of the stick I have ever seen calls it a game changer:

playtest 99s 2013

Now to the 2013 Steam 99s

Head size 99

Strung Weight 11.3 oz / 320 grams

Unstrung 10.7oz / 304 grams

Length 27

Balance 2 pts HL

String Pattern 16M x 15C

The racquet has 360 Amplifeel handle for more power and Dampening.

the Story.

Ok so I'm sitting there listening to marketing materials.  Waiting to get on Court to test the racquet. Wilson explains that they test the RPMs of the ball using a Doppler radar  that was designed for golf originally and was transformed to tennis. the Doppler radar accurately counts the RPM for the ball  when hit with spin.

Now here comes the fun. the Counter play test racquet was a popular racquet with a player who may or may not be injured with knee problems currently.  They gave me that racquet "air bolate" ( hehe) & i got about 2900 RPM with the Counter test racquet. my score of 2900 was higher than everyone there even the other players and coaches who used the steam 99s.  Then they gave me the steam 99s and I got a 10% increase in Spin 3190 RPMs. my fastest shot was 85 MPH all forehands steam & air o BABYlatte.   Now think... with a 10% increase of spin I was able to hit the ball Higher Deeper with more consistency, How will this help you, just imagine that you get 10% better, how much more can you win.

This racquet will be a major game changer for allot of tennis players male female & Juniors in 2013.

Now what sold me on this racquet isn't the marketing from Wilson, & not me being a Wilson guy. What Sold me  was a miss hit that i made with the Steam 99s, that I was able to pull back in on the baseline using the steam 99s.

Ex. or what happened with the miss hit.

I had a shot where i didn't get close enough to the ball. I have a whipping trick that helps me add spin and pull the ball down and in sometimes. However this situation felt like one of those times where the ball will be just out and sail little long and it didn't to my surprise. The ball took a heavy curve down to hit the baseline.

I was thinking WOW i need a Tour version heavy like my Prostaff 90's. Wilson guys said no i cant have one and they will not make one, but i can lead tape it. ;'-( (boo hoo).

I feel that if i can get a 10% percent increase of spin on my ball i will make less errors, if i make less errors I will win more ( now all the Wilson marketing makes sense cause that's their marketing this year lol aka win more )

if you would like to order early or have more questions about how to string the racquet or anything related to the 2013 line ups for Wilson let me know. thanks for your time

Sincerely
