Just took a look at some of the plans in the states and all i have to say is, my god. Companies like Verizon and AT&T really have you guys by the balls. 70 bucks for the most standard iphone plan and for only 3 gigs? sheesh. My plan right now in Canada is only $56 with 6 gigs and thats arguably not the best I could do plan wise with Rogers

Yea, but how much did you pay for your phone?

This is the best battery life of any smartphone I have owned so far. Lots of usage and in day 2 I'm at 64%. So it looks like I can charge every other day and be fine. Posting with it now.

I have two Exchange e-mail accounts, so I lose about half of the charge during the day. I'd be too nervous starting the day at 50%. :)

Some ridiculous profiteering going on here from our friends down at Cupertino, particularly when you look at the price differentials between the 16/32/64gb versions. How much is a Class 10 MicroSD card?

When you actually think about the total cost of the phone over the entire length of the contract, its pretty insane money. I could buy a brand new super slim Ultrabook for that together with marginally lower end phone.

Really?

That's a marginal phone, at best. 1GHz dual core, 800 x 480 screen (233ppi), 5MP camera, VGA front facing camera, 1500 mAh battery...All of those features are HUGE downgrades from the SIII.

This is a budget phone, and Samsung released it to be a budget phone, not a flagship.

Its 1/2 the phone the SIII is. Aimed at people who want a mid-level phone- not SIII users. It doesn't even support LTE.

I'm currently on Sprints unlimited data plan on my iPhone 5 - $80/ mo and I get a corporate discount of 20% on top of that so I'm making out pretty good.

Verizon is terrible with their data charges, great network but not worth the extra $ IMO. I might not have LTE (yet) but I'm perfectly happy with my data speeds for the money I pay.

Well, poor people needs to feel the benefits of great Samsung phones too. and this is good way to provide them the opportunity.

There isn't even any indication that its going to ever even come to the US from what I'm reading.

Even if it does make it, chances are that it it will be around $100- the SIII is $200 now so $100 separates the poor from the high-end user?

I ended up paying around $115 for the iphone 5.

You got a pretty good deal!

And $56 a month is a steal. Verizon, a.k.a pricegougingmachine charges
$100 per month for 2GB and 1 phone + tax
$110 per month for 3GB and 1 phone + tax
... and so on.

For me, no phone is worth buying for that kind of shared plan. Even, if we consider a 2GB limited data plan, it amounts to $720 extra money over 2 years than I am currently paying for a $70 per month unlimited 3G data on Verizon. Ergo, I'm sticking with old secondhand phones for as long as Verizon allows me to steer away from their Share Everything Crap.

I use wifi a lot so 2 gigs is plenty for me. I love the coverage of Verizon. I had to spend extra for a signal booster from sprint so I actually spend less now. It's a far far better experience so for me.

It truly is the superior device. I have asked the moderators to close the thread since the decision has been made.

Is there a complete break Proof case you can put your phone in that even if you throw it like a Football, it won't break ? do they sell one of these ?

No idea...

maybe the feel the S line is getting too big and they want to stay in the marketplace for smaller phones (women shoppers)...

I totally understand making a 4" screen phone, I just don't understand why they made it suck so much. Crappy screen res, crappy camera, no LTE, watered down processor, tiny battery by Android standards...

There's a market for people who want top end phones that are 4" screens. No reason to make it a 2011 release that will come out in late 2012.

Its not even slated to even land in the US. People in the US just want the biggest, fastest or most powerful device they can get their hands on regardless of how big and hideous it is.

No. My advice is not to throw your phone like a football if you don't want it to break.

Anyone use Opera Mobile browser? I downloaded it. It compresses data and reduces data consumption by like 90%. It is also rocket fast.

Softbank acquires Sprint.

Usually don't like American company takeovers, but maybe this will help American consumers. Sprint definitely needed some help!

I'm managing to kill my battery pretty well today. Only at 48% now, I get nervous when I get below 50%...

Impressive I'm at 78 and have been using it like crazy.

This is how mine is at home...Not so much at work because of the weaker signal.

2.5 hours of use, 17 hours of standby right now, and I'm at 70%. I'm not complaining, my old phone would have been dead by now, lol. But when I'm at home on WiFi, or out on a solid, consistent LTE signal I'd probably be at 80% instead of 70.

I'm in Piscataway NJ today and I met several folks on the bus ride up who have seen this thread and urged me to fight the good fight for Appl fanboism.

Sometimes I think it is our work mail servers. Other days I'm in the 70s at the end of the day.

And you have to set it to push? I have gmail set to push and work set to manual. It is awesome.

Great Anandtech review. These reviews have flown under the radar in this thread, which really is a shame.

Same here..if you go to settings > Mail> fetch new data. you will have push turned on. go to fetch and check mark "manually". then click advanced and set your work account to manual.

What happens then is whenever you open your mail app you will get your new work mail. If that is ok with you, your battery life will improve by a ton. I still get my gmail pushed so when I open it up to check it, I get my new work mail as well.

^^^ I like real time mail though!

Hence the poor battery life..lol. I only push my gmail accounts and my battery life is insane with this phone. Did the same on droid and it made a difference.

My last droid with less use could not make it through more than a day. I am on day 2 with the i5. Charging it every 2-3 days..how it should be.

I've downloaded some neat Halloween live 3d wallpapers. This one is from the great movie Halloween....it has rain, lightening flashes, lights in the house going on and off and Michael Myers entering.
