RTT Academy (Dave Rineberg) vs Macci, IMG the others

Been to the big academies but was wondering if any of you have any knowledge or experience with this one especially for a little kid. I read Rinebergs book about his 7 years as a hitting coach for Venus and Serena and he sounded like a great and very knowledgeable coach. His private lesson fees are considerably lower.. Thoughts? Many thanks ...

It would depend on where your level is your dealing with , the guy Rineburg is the best route for any player a solid hitting partner.

Thanks Number1Coach! The level would be advanced beginner/ intermediate ( my 8 year old who has been playing for a few years and goes to Maccis/IMG every few months) She is getting great technique down but doesn't need a hitting partner. It would be more for great instruction like she is getting when we come to FL and work with these great coaches.

Thanks again! I really enjoy reading your posts and wish you and your son the very best!!

Are u thinking about moving? Dont waste your money on anyone else i have found the best coach on the planet. If you can contact Heath Waters if you want to get your daughter with a proven winner. He has 5 10 year old girls now he is working with and they all will be amazing. I have taken my daughter everywhere and this June we found Heath and he is absolutely incredible!!! If you need his number just let me know if you are not totally blown away i will pay for your lesson you got from him. He is on another planet i cannot say enough about him you need to contact him ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is very kind and generous of you GAtennis! I really appreciate your advice! I have read a lot on this forum before posting and saw that you have been to Macci. Would you say HW has the same approach as Rick M or Nick B or is it totally different ? Thanks again for your response!

Heath also has his wife working with him on court almost full time now.She was top 30 in the world at one time and in my opinion one of the 10 best doubles players in the world on the women's side. Its awesome for the little girls they not only have Heath they have access to a woman pro and little girls LOVE having a tour pro to hit with daily at 10 years old!Imagine as a kid at 10 years old hitting with and getting world class feedback. The whole situation is incredible to be a part of.

What does he charge for a private lesson? His web site says $250 an hour.

Professional
PA which is why I gave the level the way I did! Intermediate around here is like beginner down in FL when you see how those little 6-8 year olds hit! Would love your opinion GAtennis..

If you live in PA, try to find and establish a relationship with a coach there in PA...

The coach your junior constantly sees is the coach who will care the most about your junior's progress.

The coach at an out of town academy is just with your junior for the hour and then it is out of sight, out of mind.

Tennis is a long term journey, so use the tennis money wisely.

This option is cheaper:

OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING
Observe Heath teaching lessons to individuals such as his tour players or other students. Learn through observation how Heath develops player using The ACE Player Development System™.
Rate: $100/day (USD)

Bash and Crash

Semi-Pro
The name guys do it, Saviano, Macci, Sanchez-Casal, Nick B and others.

Another way to fill the cash register, nothing wrong with that.

Damn, that's a nice little extra pocket change, $100hr to watch them teach....amazing I think I will start at $25

I like Dave a lot. I have attended seminars with him and we have trained some of the same kids at times.

He is a fine coach. I understand you are not in a area where there are lots of coaches so you feel the need to take your kid somewhere.

I would just explore cheaper options for now. Any solid local coaches that can help with fundamentals? Thats all you need right now. Let him play soccer and other sports too.

Glad you like the racquet. My girl had hers restrung and regripped today, she loves that stick!

Thank you so much! I'm definitely exploring cheaper options, solid coaches etc but suffice to say that there are no under 10 kids patting the dog or with a high takeback in the 100 mile radius!! We are doing a few other sports too as you suggested. I just wanted to get an idea of some other ( more reasonably priced options) for holiday and summer training in FL. Despite what GA says, i think Rick M seems to have a great rapport with kids. Nick B is pretty exciting but I'm sure there are other places where we could go! I really enjoyed Rinebergs book and was thinking of checking out his academy if he would be good for this age group.. Thanks again for your input!

$110/hour is reasonable? For an 8 year old?!? Boy the Kool-Aid goes down so easy....
I said "more reasonable" not reasonable. pros around here usually charge $90-125 since they have to pay for indoor court time more than half of the year...

TCF where else could one go in FL to get reasonably priced top quality instruction from someone who is great with under 10 kids (as good as Macci)? Please include yourself in the list if possible ! :)

....nothing but decent coaching available for $75/hour.

Dang I was hoping to charge more TCF because I realized I teach many of the same things as Heath. I do like his website, like to see if there is something I'm missing.

In reality it has lots more to do with the kids....they would have won under a solid coach charging much less. Just like Macci's kids and all the rest of the big named coaches.

I always tell students parents that my goal is for them to leave me at 13-14 to train elsewhere, figure it's my job to lay the foundation early and at a reasonable price.

Ricci Macci, this guy is a fricking genius. His frame by frame shot analysis of the great shots in tennis magazine is Legendary and perhaps the GOAT of all analysis. His Warinka backhand in Tennis magazine has enable me to hit my backhand just like Warinka.

Hey ga tennis... I haven't posted much to this site, but I have enjoyed your posts along with others. I have an 8 year old girl and I was hoping to contact you in regards to some of the up and downs you have gone through in her development.

I read your most recent post and seems to be deleted, so hope I'm not too late.

Thanks to your time.

No - it seems to be $100/day. That is what surprised me. $250 per hour for a 1-on-1 but you can lounge on a chair the whole day watching him coach a number of juniors for $100?

I suspect that people will be ashamed and not do it more than once. Imagine a guy who shows up with his kid everyday and sits besides the court the whole day. He cannot keep it up.

The only problem I have with him is he is still using that he taught Williams sisters and Roddick and Capriati 20-25 years ago as his calling card to justify charging $300-400/hour.

But I will take a guy who uses way back when to sell his services to parents over a guy who speaks in riddles and implies he was the primary coach for players when he was not, any day.

At least with Macci parents get the facts....he coached those famous players as kids. Then they can decide if he is worth the money or not. In my opinion the answer is no, but at least there is no funny business in regards to his claims.

Why does Venus's forehand technically suck ? didn't macci work on that too ?

I know I don't say it a lot, but I'm with Brad on this issue. With all the resources and technology out there, there is no need to shell out big $ for privates at such a young age. Even a non-player parent can bring an 8 year old along well until 12, then go the expensive coach for refinement. Many top pros learned from parents and in groups/clubs and had private coaches later.

On the other hand, if you're rich... carry on.

Good to hear , that was my motto aim for the stars "pros" and a D1 ride would be a easy clintch , 10yrs later presto , I know that you are the most important part of your childs development and the success , If you desire and have the time you can develop your own child to whatever level you desire and I highly encourage that !

That has been your motto? I thought it was "Pro or bust".

That makes irrelevant or superfluous the points in about a zillion posts here, particularly by those who have been advising that college would provide wonderful opportunities....athletic, academic, and social

Brad, you are the best by far. A dad says he wants to shoot for the stars and produce a top pro player and you jump right in to the rescue as if you have developed tons of pro players.

Your results are a girl who quit tennis at age 10 and a boy who has yet to dominate the top ITF juniors, let alone become a top professional player.

Yet you never fail to talk like you are Richard Williams, Mr. Agassi, and Mr. Woods all rolled into one!

Classic stuff my man.

Once again development definition escapes you , listen up "not trying to dominate jrs". And haven't aimed to rule the ITF , the travel to dominate the ITF would be ridiculous .

Here's a fair question information man "who have you developed" answer No one and you have been coaching a long time ,me , quit working with the MMA guys and took a kid from scratch and have him top 10nationally without trying that hard .

You can put up some video of anything you have done or you just remind me of and encyclopedia "lots of info" and a set is worth about 300:00 dollars .

Ok let me help you to comprehend , we are aiming for the pros allways have been and if we Fail then we come hang with all the rest who have Failed , what's wrong with that way of thinking ?

As for college we pour more money into education here in the US and the top Ivy leaue colleges run Washington DC and look at the predicament were in with all the smart guys in charge so when you exalt education you should do it with humilty with the tract record higher ed has done to this country .

The 2nd paragraph is full of common sense and logic.

Ya know....I don't doubt that Deit has the work-ethic or potential athletic ability (potential) to make it as a top pro.

If he doesn't make it, I will attribute it to your self-centered, condescending attitude that reeks more of insecurity than confidence. Maybe there are famous coaches out there who conduct themselves the way you do, and if so, I am sure people will point them out to me. But your attitude....as exemplified solely by your posts, since I do not know you from Adam.....is just the epitome of a negative role model for a professional champ.

Deit, you should take credit for your successes, no one else. And I think there are a lot of people here who think a solid college tennis career would count as a great success.

Nobody would be able to prove anything in retrospect, and besides, I don't care about being proved right or wrong. It's not about me.

We will just never know, 100%, what heights Deit could reach if he were more exposed to other coaches/role models who exhibit a less self-centered and defensive attitude. But I have expressed my opinion.

Why does every thread in the juniors forum turn into how good deit is? Or will be?

I dunno. Maybe because someone or some people need to seek continual reconfirmation about it. The fact that it comes up in every thread is one of the reasons I am forming the opinion that his camp is being defensive and insecure

you need to learn to read i am the one being grilled right now ! Db is not the subject right now the insecure coach who is looking at the impossible and believing he can get it done is being called insecure !!!

Just trying to educate a fellow poster about good ole Webster.

Your always blaming society's problems on educated people, when most are caused by a system that operates on money and greed. Not everyone who goes to college is a crook or politician. Many contribute greatly to society treating and curing disease, designing and building things, inventing things, creating tommorrow's technology, and on and on. Are there exceptions? Of course, as there is with anything. But go through a day and think about all the things you use and experience that would not have been possible without highly educated people.

I agree with you TCF and think Rick is a great coach for little kids! It's funny how a simple thread about getting an opinion on Rineberg got off topic and got GA all excited about Heath and then followed by the standard attack on DB/BB!! My two cents on all of it ( if anyone cares) -1. you are right about what you said regarding Heath (facts speak for themselves.)

2. GA got excited because he really likes his daughters new coach and went a little over the top with some statements but overall was trying to share his elation and pass on information. Then he got really defensive when you tried to give him some perspective on what it really is ( which was very nice of you but taken the wrong way due to his excitement regarding the new coach)

3. BB was really helpful like you and offered his opinion on Rineberg ( purpose of this thread) and to share what worked for him. No need for everyone to
keep talking about his son when he offered some advice. The kid is clearly talented and probably a very nice kid. I actually feel really bad every time I read the stuff people write about him because he is just a kid and many people on this forum go too far with their aspersions.. Not right and I hope he
doesn't read this stuff !!

the signal to noise on this site has really gone down hill the past month...I almost wish USTA would do something stupid again so we could (possibly) get some normal discussions going....

I humbly disagree with you ,I welcome all critique and attacks ,it does 2 things keeps you sharp and supplys infomation that can be very useful .

I have saved ton of money not playing a lot of these overrated tourneys that TCF believes are mandatory for a player to rise to the top . Why is that cause when your "developing" a player tournament "competition" is only "part" of the process ,, I looked at all these tourneys did the math on how many thousands of players played them and saw their levels dropping rather then rising over the years and recognized the more tourneys(itf travel) you played at a young age caused more of a negative then a positive on average.

If it wasnt for TCF strong views on this postition I might not have studied the patterns of the multitudes and came to a conclusion that has saved a lot of money and still "developed" a strong athlete with a solid game and allowed maturity to grow more then frustration in him over the years.

So allow all these guys to pop off I welcome it and so should you .
