No chances for Federer to win the WTF!

The title is a little unfortunate, implying that Roger doesn't have the ability to win, rather than suggesting that he isn't in the form, but I agree with the prognosis - Roger likely will bow out in the semis.

To me, the Wimbledon win was his main goal and his motivation/energy/fighting instinct haven't been the same since. This is not to take away from Berdych, Murray and JMDP anything for beating Roger. But purely from Rogers side, he hasn't been able to sustain the intensity after the draining silver match against JMDP at the Olympics.

Perhaps he tried through sheer will power to hold on to the no.1 for as long as he could with the trip to shanghai but I don't see him really very perturbed with his form/losses. (notably with the serve)

He played a long season in chasing no.1. I think we won't see him back in form until next year..

Something seems physically wrong with him. I think his legs are giving out.

I agree he is much slower and since Shanghai/Basel he was very moody. Like knowing that something was wrong.

Sometimes he does not react and it seems that he does not react as a choice.

When he was 1 break up in the second he tried to end up all games very quickly trying to go to the third set as soon as possible.

I can't see a win with Murray, but he is the Maestro, so there is always hope.

I don't understand why all (or a lot of) Fed fans are claiming that Fed has played like crap since the Olympics. Cincy doesn' t count then? Why not? He destroyed Djoko in the final. I would have thought Fed fans would remember that better than me.

I think both are playing well below their best. Whoever wins tomorrow will probably be the one who plays closest to their own level.

Fingers crossed they can both step it up and it will be a great match, with Murray winning :)

It's cause of high standards set by Federer, but still that Cincy results is solid, though Fed's U.S. Open exit was disappointing and overshadows the Cincy result

It's like he's severely declined all of a sudden after Cincy. Yeah in pro tennis it can happen that fast.

Indeed, there have even been cases of tennis players declining massively already at the age of 24 and suddenly start playing sloppy, uninspired, flat and subpeak tennis out of nowhere.

I think because in Cinci Djokovic was absolutely dead in the final. Fed bagelled him in the first set, but then he was close to lose the second.

That was also strange because Fed was really fresh and Djokovic was really dead.

Fed admitted it in an interview.

He's always got a chance. It's all big boys at this stage and the margins between them all are slight despite some of the inflated claims on this thread. Djokovic is probably the favourite given his steady form to this point but form can go out the window in the space of a few games. It's really exciting whatever way it goes.

i dont think losing to berdych at the u s open is a big deal on any given day berdych can blow anyone away,

and losing to murray in shanghai..well he only went really to get his 300wks at no1, he prob would have w/d from event otherwise..and this is peak murray..

losing to del potro twice..juan has been improving all year, its no surprise he ended his 6match losing streak (close at olympics, was 2 sets up at french open but inhibited by knee injury, then juan w/d queens)

less of the doom and gloom i think...i dont see him doing a sampras and be flapping aroung the world 15 rank in 2013.

Hasn't anybody learned never to count out Federer? Especially on an indoor court. Seriously, come on now.
Keyboard warriors know no shame.

He just played a bad match and still won.
Isn't that the truth. Easy to win when you're at your best. Serving 40% in a set and still winning is very impressive.

I think Djokovic has looked slightly better than Fed, who looked slightly better than Murray. But we'll find out Sun/Mon who can pull out 2 matches and win it.

Fed is so going down tomorrow. It's hilarious how many Fed fans are so delusional. Djokovic is winning this easily btw like it or not. miss Rafa.

Wrong. Three big boys and one old man. It was somewhat clear to me even before the WTF began that Fed is not a serious contender here based on his year so far and his form.

Good stuff!

Well, 302 and all his achievements earlier in the year are precisely the reason why I thought he wouldn't do well here. He has played a lot already and has achieved his goals for the year. The weariness from all of it must be catching up. Add to it the fact that he is 5 years older than his nearest rivals.
Think 2009, when he similarly fulfilled most of his goals by Wimbledon. His post USO season then including WTF was quite meh, similar to this year.

You could also have said that he always wins his Masters two in a row, never won a third one. Still, the matches have to be played, so we'll see. ;)

Fed played well at Cincy but since then has been crap. :(

Don't worry, hard to see how Murray will not win the match against Fed.

Federer won't be beating Murray, or if he does it will be EXTREMELY close.

I wouldve thought people would learn to not doubt Federer at this point...
It's like his age is right beneath his skin, yearning to break free. Most of the time he's in control of it, but sometimes he just looks slow and the age takes over. Other times he looks like a 25 year old...because he straight sets 25 year olds at their peak.

Federer might just be the greatest, most consistent player ever.

Love these threads. sure he has a challenge to beat the guys in the top 4 now but they all have a good 5 years on him don't they? Its amazing how your body can't keep up to guys who are much younger. it makes a huge difference.

These few threads are exact proof that 90% of the people posting on these boards are so full of biased crap, and a general lack of knowledge for the game that it's pathetic.

He cannot win against the top guys

He just came down from #1, as in the top guy, he beat Murray yesterday, and bageled the current #1 in route to a victory a couple of months ago, so I'm thinking he can win against the top guys.

LOL at the title of this thread.

If he had been a bit more consistent in key moments yesterday, he could have beaten the world nr.1, who is five years younger and arguably in his prime.
