Djokovic's post-match celebrations

Anyone notice this?

Against the top guys, Djokovic pretty much only does his outrageous celebrations when he wins against Federer. Against Nadal (excluding the Australian Open this year), Murray or any other member of the top 10, he is muted.

I think we all know the reason why.

Thoughts?

I agree his celebrations are over the top and not classy at all but he probably feels really excited and happy when he beats the top guys (as he should) but really looks like an ape, needs to clean up that bit otherwise hes a great guy

What? Did you see Rome 2011 SF and F? And Madrid 2011 F etc.

OK I agree with Rome, but Madrid he barely did anything. Any yelling and screaming was only directed at his camp when he was only a few feet away from them. Compare that to... let's say World Tour Finals 2012, or Indian Wells 2011 - he was yelling all the way from the service line to the net, before and after the handshake.

Now, cast your minds back to the 7 straight defeats of Nadal. Most of them were just elation after beating Rafa, as opposed to "AAARRRRGGGGH THAT'S RIGHT TAKE THAT YOU SON OF A F***ING B!T*H ROGER".

I expect the fact he's just beaten Federer, arguably the GOAT, is reason enough for such a celebration. I am a big Federer fan, but I have noticed a slight touch of arrogance creeping in to Federer's demeanour lately, so maybe that plays a part. But I don't think the wild celebrations are just reserved for Federer, having seen the shirt ripping at the AO.

However, one of the many things I do like about Novak is how he congratulates those who beat him, with a big smile and hug. Watching Murray at the USO, crouching in a state of shock, having experienced winning a first slam before it was nice to see Djokovic walk around the net to congratulate Murray.

I guess you also have to think back to what Djokovic was doing when Federer started his domination of the game.....he was just a teenager watching Federer on tv, wondering if he would ever get to play him.

WOW, talking about biased comment...
Attack the guy with the Djokovic nick, but it is OK for the "RF" guy...

I'd take Djokovic celebrations over Federer little girl crying any time...

However, I agree that Djokovic is not the best winner, however, he is a great loser, which is quite the opposite from your boy.

Tbh, he isn't fired up enough. He needs to throw in their faces. I beat you. I am king. YEAAH! These muted celebrations are holding back imo.

I don't see what's the problem with emotional celebrations. Everyone on every sport celebrates when he wins a tournament. Djokovic isn't the only one who does it.

Lol...did you not watch any of his celebrations last year whenever he beat Nadal (which was often) especially at Madrid where his coach rolled about half-naked on top of a car bonnet and Nadal complained about the noisy celebrations outside his hotel room?

Muted is hardly the word I would have chosen. Djokovic usually goes bonkers whenever he wins a big tournament no matter who he has beaten.

I definitely did not read about this. Any links?

OF course he and everyone celebrates acording to the meaning of the match won, if he wins a 250 (not the he plays them) I don't think he would celebrate a lot, win a GS and we have the T-shirt tearing, I rather see that, that someone just going to the net and shake hands, what I don't like is the racket bashing, but it's like that, the more emotional you are the more emotional you are wining or losing. That's the one thing I don't like much about federer, he plays like he has no emotions and his tennis is so good I'd love to see him a little less robotic.

Crying like murray at wimby earns you fans but if you celebrate like djoker at wtf, he is arrogant ?? so a player should behave like a sore loser all the time to be more likeable huh ? whats the likeable criteria exactly ?

Well all this yelling, screaming in the face of your opponent after you've just beaten them is a little unnecessary. It's OK if you direct it at your camp AFTER the handshake.

I believe he expresses himself more defiantly than some of the other players because of the difficult path he had to take to make it among the games elite. He's victory "roar" and behavior that most find offensive stems from him being faced with overwhelming circumstances/responsibilities for an extended period of time. There are tremendous feelings of pressure and responsibility when your family "bets the farm" on you when you're 12 and will end up poor on the street if you don't hit it big. If you know him, you realize that this energized behavior is directed at the obstacles/pressures he had hurdled in his life up to that point and not specifically that match or that opponent. Every time he wins something significant his mind automatically takes him back to those grim days and he explodes with emotion. "I did it"

I like Novak's celebrations! They are great and he is full of passion and enjoys the moment. I don't see anything wrong with that. At least he enjoys his job as a tennis player and he loves to win! Good for him. I have nothing against Novak, he is a good player and very nice in person :)

They weren't poor by definition, but weren't thriving by any means. What ever they had they invested in Novak at the time. Gutsy move that carried a lot of pressure with it.

It obviously comes naturally for him so who cares? It's not like how in baseball some closers (pitchers who finish out the game) have a ritualized celebration they do after every win no matter the importance of the game. Djokovic looks hot when he runs around screaming so it gives the ladies something to fantasize about too. :)

I've always thought any outrageous celebration was an act. Why? Well, these guys have been playing and winning for decades so it's nothing really new to beat each other; especially when they have played each other numerous times (Fed/Rafa/Nole/Muzz/etc.).

To me, it just seems like one big act.

The only one that I believe was actually genuine was Fed's 09 FO title....

Not many of us know how we would do in those situations. If I ever won a Masters 1000 or GS over one of the top 4 I'd probably be overcome with emotion and it would be anyone's guess as to how that would play out. I think most of us would be out of control emotionally with a victory like that.

It's totally natural to celebrate the way they do. Some celebrations may be jarring to us viewers or even "classless" but we can't complain. FFS, I used to celebrate just as wildly when we won football matches back in school.

They weren't poor, and he wasn't dodging bombs like he sensationalizes, either. Cvac was in Germany during the majority of the war.

And was therefore there during some of it. That's more war than I imagine most of us will ever experience in our lifetimes.

I find that Nole seems very genuine in congratulating his opponent after a lose. He gives them due credit and always enjoys the fight. Federer is very arrogant and I see no genuine appreciation of his opponent.

Maybe because they are harder fought wins and more emotional? Just a thought...

People read into things too much.

theres a difference between winning a pro match and a club match. For the record usually after my wins the most i do is a fist pump to myself and then go shake hands. Anyway the fingerwag was a lot better than tearing your shirt up and behaving like an ape.
