Video of me demoing new Dunlop M 3.0

very nice frame. Great upgrade from the BioM 3.0 IMO.

if you guys want to give me some pointers or comments on my technique,
please do so on this thread in the tips/instruction section...

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=445854&referrerid=59371

The new M 3.0 is a bit more powerful than prior models and feels crisper. The sweetspot feels good when you nail it and you know it when you miss. Great control and you can swing away without fear if hitting long. Its got a nice balance of control and power. Firmer feeling than past models as well.
Good touch and feel on volleys and dropers. Racquet seems heavy enough stock but would benefit from a little added lead tape. I also tried the F 3.0, but definitely preferred the M due to it's livelier feel and more open pattern. Not sure why TW gave the M such mediocre reviews? If you are interested in this frame definitely check it out yourself. The TW review doesn't do it justice IMO.

Very nice strokes, nothing to advise as you are much better than me, :) Do you think the "Tour" version would play better?

I always thought you were an up and coming junior heading up the ranks.

You need to relax everything, it seems that you are forcing your body to hit the shots.

Very robot like. But some guys are just like that. Eg. David ferrer.

Otherwise, very clean. But if you can relax before, during and after each stroke. It will look so more natural.

If you were in balance throughout your motion, it might help you relax. You seem to be catching yourself at the end of a lot of your strokes.

You seem like you drag yourself into your shot a lot. You seem slow and a little overly forceful when you really don't need to be to get the same out of your shot. To me it's just wasted movement and takes time away from what you could be doing moreso which is moving your feet.

My main word of advice is to just play more natural. You look like the tin man from wizard of oz the way you plant yourself after your swing and your swing is labored and overly exaggerated.

Loosen up your body, loosen up your swing and just try to play more freely. I can't imagine you playing sets and having someone run you around while you hit like that. It would seem like you would behind in the point a lot.

In the video, it seems like you're really self conscious of the way that you want people to perceive the way you hit.

When you play really good players, you'll find out quickly that competing against them has a lot to do with movement, getting to the ball and I can't imagine you being in a good position to play the next ball if you're taking so much time completing one stroke.

Lose your structure or whatever, whoever taught you to hit like that and just play freely and naturally.

You're a tennis player, not a lumberjack. Stop playing like one.

disagree that david ferrer is robot like.

if i saw a player on a tennis court moving and hitting the ball like ferrer, i would realize that he is a very accomplished player.

the rest of your input as well as all the other advice is spot on. OP needs to relax and swing smoother. more human racquet and less graphite racquet. swallow the magic pill.

I agree. I need to work on staying on balance and trying to be more fluid and less stiff.

People bashing Jack for nothing, unbelievable.

I think He was working on his strikes only, nothing else, that is exactly why you get a ball machine to work on it, over and over and over again, once He has it down, watches the ball around the string bed, doesn't move his head after hitting the ball He will move on.

But to be fair I don't see JackB1 talking that He is a big thing, like a few others do, I'd like to see some other guy here in this thread post a video of how good he is, after so much rant and anger in most of his posts.

Keep it up Jack, to be honest I think your mechanics are as good or better than most play testers of TW, excluding Andy/ Brittany/ Sihoban.

Ferrer still looks very mechanical, robot like. Sorry, that's how I see it.

I didn't say he was not a good hitter

Hey Jack. Nice to put a face to the name. So may freaking posers here! Ugh. I think the long delay between shots is what frustrated watchers. Nothing much you can do but stand there and wait.

i have to agree. ferrer is very robot like in his shots. which is actually not bad. every single fh is the same. perfect form, perfect timing, perfect finish. you watch a youtube of azarenka and she looks like 3.0 if you didnt know who she was. timing is off every shot, contact point is all over the place, footwork is all over the place. follow through is different each time, etc etc.

tennis at my level is more about getting the ball over the net more times than your opponent...not how good you look doing it. I realize I don't have the fluidity of Federer, but there are many very good players in my leagues that don't look like much, but then the beat you 6-2,6-2.

Yes I will work on playing more fluidly and looser, but its easier said than done.
It's not like I WANT to look like a robot :)

That machine was set slow enough for a wheelchair tennis player with one arm. It's probably that Jack would not look so mechanical and flat footed if the feed was set to a faster, more realistic feed speed. Kind of hard to be really fluid when you have time for a cup of coffee between balls.

All people bashing Jack need to post either a Video of themselves hitting or their playing credentials. It takes a huge amount of courage to post footage of yourself hitting. Remember Jack is an active and a valued member of this little community. Well done Jack for posting this footage. It looks like you really give the forehand a decent rip. I think movement is something worthwhile for you and all of us to work on.

I'm glad the mods removed those nasty bashing posts.

Jack, you don't have to LOVE to look robotic like Ferrer.

You already hit you bh like him, lol:)

Like I said in my first post, it's natural for some people to hit like that.

Yep, I'm going to leave it at this: If thats how you play the best, go for it....

Thanks for posting Jack. Regardless of our level, we can always learn from one another. This is a site we come to to enjoy conversations and try to help one another. Unfortunately, there are a few that think negative, aggressive comments are mature.

there's always a few sour grapes in the bunch. Just toss em away and enjoy the rest.

It is very humbling to watch yourself on video. You are NEVER as good visually, as you think you are in your head.

I know, but I was just relating it to myself. FWIW, I would LOVE to look as "robotic" as Ferrer :). I think his 2HBH is one of the steadiest shots on the tour.

oh ok. yea. the guy is absolutely phenomenal. even though i am sure he's doping. his fh is the stronger side. on the bh he kind of does a compact swipe thing.

Concurred - anyone who can make to the ATP tour, as you said, is "phenomenal."

No thanks unless one's ready to accept negative criticism. It's funny that those who are the most critical are the ones who could NOT accept any. :)

Who is not accepting negative criticism? There's a difference between useful suggestions and just bashing for the sake of hurting someone.

The people who bash (or those who like to criticize or give negative remarks) would mostly likely incapable of handling negative criticism from others.

nice video Jack. great to have a face with the name. I like the compact strokes - especially on the backhand side - looks good

I didn't think you looked robotic. Like previous posters have mentioned, you look about as good as anyone can look hitting with a ball machine with a long delay - I'm sure your movement is much different when you're hitting with someone who's shots you can read or react to.

I found myself grimacing every time you moved over to the forehand side thinking you may accidentally roll an ankle on one of the balls.

good hitting

I know, but when you use a ball machine the balls go everywhere.

i agree. so many posters go on and on forever about 3.56grams of lead at a 24deg angle in the buttcap etc etc etc but they never post a video....all the good players i know dont give a crap. they show up on court with a 8yr old racket and start crushing the ball

You maybe have to think about hitting the ball fractionally earlier. That will assist with fluidity as well as give you a little more oomph. But we are talking about small things.

Jack,

I would also just also echo that it may be worth a shot to loosen your arms some more. It may be inhibiting some power from your shots but then again, your current style may work best for you. Just saying it is worth a try one hitting session.

Thanks for the video Jack, I'm interested on this frame also, so it would be nice to know a couple of things, specially since there's no demo program where I live...

Can you compare it to any other racket you have used in terms of power, spin and flex? What is the thing you dislike the most about the frame? Did you serve or volley with it?

Just one tip I would like to give, you should really clear the back of the court from all those loose balls, it's an ankle roll ready to happen.
