Ok, so Fed is going to be a spokesman for some champagne. Why are you so happy about that?

You think the owner of LVMH really cares about Federer? he doesn't. He just wants to sell champagne and other expensive stuff.

Fed's net worth goes up so he goes up higher in the Forbes list of the richest athletes, plus his SMC brand would shoot sales of M&C.

The guy who took his pictures is the most famous photographer in the world-demarchilier.. the same guy who gets mentioned in the movies like devil wears prada and other fashion movies..

They plan to launch an advertising campaign in 2013 which will make federer really good and help me reach out to even more audience.. ;-)

Oh my god. This is the most exciting news I had in a long time. My hands are shaking as I'm writing this post.

Not really. :)

you are excited as if Fed will share his endorsement money with you. sorry but kinda silly thread. nothing to do with tennis. what are we supposed to discuss here?:???:

Beats the klassy PokerStars by a mile.

I thought my friends and I were the only people to use "klassy" in this sense. I heart Clarky.

PokerStars is seriously embarrassing. One of their videos with Rafa has some guy supposedly teaching Rafa how to play poker. If Rafa couldn't (can't?) even play the game, why on earth is he endorsing it?! And if you combine his PokerStars endorsement with his Kia endorsement, he's looking seriously... low rent.

And this is possibly the least sexy picture I've ever seen (although the hair is, as always, fabulous):

I agree with all of this. Why Nadal accepts such low class sponsorships is something I will never understand. He must be greedy for the money because why else would he slap him name on something like PokerStars? It's embarrassing for him and for his fans.

Great news - I am putting up all of my sexy black Armani briefs on sale now on the bay so maybe one day I can waste the proceeds on mediocre sparkling wine whose mismanagers spent all their money on PR and mediocre sports celebrity endorsements...

Because his uncle is a kcid and everyone knows this. Besides, his family has enough money with their hotels anyway. Who cares... we all know who people show up to watch play anyway.

Federer not being American makes him underpaid and largely unknown in the U.S.
For him, he is grossly underpaid compared to what Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods were getting. And a lot of people don't even know who he is in the U.S. Non-tennis fans know who people like Woods, Jordan, Lebron, Tyson, etc all were/are. People even know Agassi.

Federer won't be getting those endorsements when he's retired. Nobody cares about retired athletes. That's why he can't retire.:)

he will be a serious contender for the role of the next james bond.. ;-) people WILL care even after he retires..

The best part is his fans are loyal to HIM as a person... and not his TENNIS.. so even if his tennis stops am sure I will follow him..

tennis is a sweet bonus to an already incredible man that he is..

If Federer played tennis with a champagne bottle rather than a racket, would he only have won 4-5 majors?

GOAT with the MOAT
November 30, 2012 by pseudofedblog

Hello everybody!

I have the exciting news which you may have seen on your small television sets or MyTube.

I have teamed up with MOAT Champagne to be their Brand Sponsor. They are extremely lucky to have Me and look forward to working with Me.

When I first got into tennis I heard about branding and it gave Me the apprehensions as I thought it might be painful. I consulted with the ATP doctor and he was right, it doesn’t hurt at all!

MOAT first contacted Me on the Facebook via a private message. My Facebook administrator’s assistant picked this up and forwarded it for approval to the head of My Human Resources department. This then went through the usual channels to reach Me. After H.R. it went through Sales, Accounting (large department), Tech support, Style support, Fashion support and Staff support. Three years later it was brought to My attention for final approval. I approved on the understanding that we go for a re-brand and that it must have a ‘GOAT’ stamp. I met them halfway (Dubai) and we settled on MOAT. I am so happy to be associated with this brand, as well as all My other sponsors.

As you know, it’s so important for Me to reach out to the everyday consumer. A staff member questioned whether it was a good idea given I am the top athlete. Not only did she question the association with professional sport and alcohol but also as a role model to children.

Obviously I had her fired. There is nothing wrong with this partnership. The London Olympics this year had McDonalds and Coca-Cola as main sponsors and there was nothing wrong with that either, we all have to eat otherwise we would be very thin. I must make the admissions that this discussion did make Me angry. How else are children going to be motivated to go to their local (and probably cold) tennis courts without the goal of partnerships such as this one day?

Look, it isn’t just Me. Rafaello Nadal (Spanish) now has his sponsorship with the poker gambling people, I now have the best alcohol deal in the world and then maybe another top player can be sponsored by a cigarette company. Then all we would need is My new best friend Pippa to make the planning and organizing and we will have a heck of Rolling Stones party times!

Remember fans, drink responsibly whilst playing tennis.

Actually, his sponsorship portfolio makes Jordan's look small. Jordan was the king of the time but not comparable to the top endorsement deals of today in dollar value.

In addition, Federer - like Woods, Jordan, Beckham - is one of a rare breed of athletes who has significant recognition outside the fans of the sport he plays. It's not in his favour that tennis can't come close to the popularity of soccer globally or basketball in the US (for example) but it is in his favour that he is in an individual sport. Team sportspeople rarely ever get notable endorsement deals with high-end brands unrelated to sports - because they have very little opportunity to forge any 'classy' appeal compared to individual sportspeople, no matter how amazing they may be at what they do.

Federer is a dream combination of magical sporting talent which has been realised in his results (unlike many other legendary talents - David Beckham for example has too often been the "almost" guy and achieved far less than his talent promised), has general good looks, he's well articulated when he speaks, is widely praised by the all-time greats from tennis and other sports and even by his closest rivals. He has barely put a foot wrong publicly for years - he's even almost always presented like he just stepped out of a stylist. Over a long period of time all these things combined have raised his stock so much it's got him into the frame for companies like LVMH, and they do not make endorsement plans on a whim. They will have followed him and perhaps even been pitching him for some time before this deal came to fruition.

Whether you love or loath him or think he's all about money or whatever, Federer is and will continue to be for a few years the benchmark for individual sporting endorsement deals globally. The way they've (IMG and with Godsick since leaving them) carefully seen him associated with a cluster of complementary brands is not at all by chance.

It is kinda low dont you think.. hmm.. I am sure it must be higher than this.. do you have a source? I mean Nike pays him 10 million plus..
I don't know. $30m for 5yrs is $6m per year.. That would be amongst Federer's biggest on-going deals from what I've read.

For that it's worth, his Nike deal is reputedly worth a lot more than $10m per year from what I've read - more like $15m (although, really, we can't be sure how it's formulated. I tend to think he's on a flat rate as Nike's marquee player - incentive based deals are usually for when the player needs the deal... in this case it's the other way around > Nike need the deal).

And it’s no surprise, either – Rolex alone gives Federer $15 million. That’s more than all of Novak Djokovic’s endorsements combined.

Which is why I was wondering.. if a company like Rolex is paying him so much.. am sure LVMH should offer much more.. especially considering how federer is going out of his way in promoting alcohol..

I'm not sure we can always trust some of the numbers that get thrown about as being overly accurate. That said, his Rolex deal from what I can see is a ten year deal for $15m - which means $1.5m/year. It's an amount dwarfed by quite a few of his other deals if we're to believe the numbers suggested.

So far as "going out of his way to promote alcohol" is concerned - that seems a pretty convenient and cynical framing of the deal. LVMH deals in luxury brands - they're not really in the same league as Jagermeister or most vodkas which are more in the 'let's get drunk tonight category' of alcohol brands as opposed to being a luxury product. When you consider the price point of Moet Chandon it seems a stretch - more like lame - to imply Federer has gone out of his way to promote alcohol.

That's not true, Djokovic has something like $20 million annually from endorsements, and actually has better racquet deal than Roger.

dduuudeee... you are completely mistaken.. Federer's endorsement with rolex is performance based and the number of times he dons it while holding a grand slam.. This year in particular was special because he had the Rolex 'The President' which is worn by the who and who of political and business world.. He does not get paid 15 million every year but I am sure as hell that he got paid 15 million this year..

Also djokovic made less than 15 million in endorsements last year.. so they were comparing federer's this year earnings from rolex and djokovic's last year earnings as a whole..

I have read it not from that only source but also many other credible sources..

People actually timed the time gap between his winning and his wearing the new rolex and it was "1 min 28 sec" thats how motivated federer was in promoting it.. ofcourse it paid big bucks..
