NBA 2012-2013 Discussion, keep it classy

Loving my Knicks so far. If Stern puts penalties on Pop it'll be dumber than basketball reasons.

That's exactly why he wants to penalize Pop, for marketing reasons and making sure they can retain as many fans as possible. I mean yeah, as a fan, I think I would be thoroughly disappointed that not 1, not 2, but ALL the stars of X team is not playing. A small percentage of those fans may lose interest and confidence in NBA's product, which is an entertaining game. HOWEVER, that was a damn good game to watch, stars or no stars.

But I agree that for basketball reasons, Pop should not be penalized because his actions were to ensure his team as competitive as it can against a conference rival.

Watching Inside the NBA right now, and Kenny Smith just took a shot at Pau Gasol, LOL:

Chris Webber was showing big men moves and strategy, and Kenny Smith moved to the exact spot and Chris Webber went:

Chris Webber: "How do you know where to go Kenny? You're a guard."

Kenny Smith: "I don't, I have no idea what you're doing, but I know how to play basketball."

heheheh

He'll fine him, he's Stern after all:evil: I can understand tv deals, fans and all but how is this different than resting your starters at the end of the season? Every team does that!! Coaches can do whatever the eff they want (better this way than faking injuries). Spurs played 5 games in 7 nights and Miami had 4 days off. Pop is a BOSS, good for him and for the Spurs. (i still remember when he rested Duncan last year or two yeras ago because he was/is too old).

TNT did not man-date the Spurs play their Starters tonight?

Spurs were playing the 4th game in 5 nights. Heat hadt played in like 4 days.

Pops sent Duncan, Ginobili, Green, and Parker home early to rest up. Leonard and Jackson are out with injuries.

So basically you had this for the spurs.

San Antonio Spurs

Starters

Matt Bonner
Tiago Splitter
Boris Diaw
Nando de Colo
Patrick Mills

Bench

DeJuan Blair
Gary Neal
Cory Joseph
James Anderson

And they had a lead late, until LeBron tookover the last 3 minutes. Allen hit another clutch three to take the elad with 23 seconds left..

D Wade looks bad though, his legs already look dead. He should probably sit out the next couple weeks. Although it might just be the miles and tthoise 600 fouls he drew when they beat the Mavs in 06 (i think it was 06) finally cathjing up to him.

LOL @ Charles Barkley calling the Spurs/Heat game:

Charles: "Welcome to the NBA, where you can draw two charges, but only get called for one."

Charles: "Travel"
Reggie: "There's no traveling in the NBA, Charles."
Charles: "Oh my bad."

Barkley was interviewing Pops i think inbetween quarters. Pop answered the question, Barkley went to ask another and Pops was like.

Stole from USA today they have the video here. http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/11/29/gregg-popovich-interview-charles-barkley-tnt-spurs-heat/1736737/

Things started out well enough, with Barkley asking about the Spurs bench. Here's the transcript:

Popovich: I think they're playing pretty well in transition, and we're making some shots. So that's a good thing.

Barkley: Do you like the pace of the game?

Popovich: We have to have a good pace. If we play halfcourt, their defense is too good. Our only shot is to keep the pace going.

Barkley: Who's the one guy who --

Popovich, interjecting: That's a third question, isn't it? Don't you just get two?

Barkley, sheepishly: My bad.

Ty, started watching the game in the 3rd qtr, great game except the final 23 seconds.

Great game, that Spurs vs Heat, with the Heat rotating the big 3 in and out.
But the joke's on YOU! Golden State is co leading the WesternConference.

I'm rooting for GSW. Cool team. Love to see them and the Clipps back in the fray ..finally.

Funny how everyone always whined that the Spurs were boring, and now they whine that they cant see them. God I wish the Spurs won. Read Wojos new article for an amazing perspective on all of this.

Not so fast...they're 9-6, 3 games behind Memphis, San Antonio, and OKC. And latest word is that Bogut may be done for the year. Nothing against GS, just had to set things straight.

OMG, if the Spurs WON, everyone would proclaim Popavich the greatest coach of all time, and he'd win the presidency the next election.

:( Oh, my bad.
WesternConference, Pacific Division?
I play basketball, but don't care about details like names and percentages.
I play tennis, but can't tell you how I serve or hit a volley.
Lots of people can tell and describe the mechanics of the stroke, but cannot hit the stroke themselves.
Lots of great players can hit great strokes, but cannot tell anyone how they do it.

Not sure if this belongs in this basketball thread, or the tips/instruction section. Cause they're both true! Well said!

Can you imagine if Festus becomes a solid center, and Biedrins goes back to the old 10 and 10 man he was 4 years ago?
They still need someone to replace Rush, but playing Landry and Jack more often would sure help, especially when the starter's start out 1 for 10 in the early parts of the game.

The butthurt in Lakers land must be strong right now. Gallinari just dunked on the entire team.

Where is the defense? How can you let somebody get a rebound, race down the floor, and dunk on the whole team?

I wonder if the refs are asleep for this Lakers/Nuggets game. There are so many blown travels/steps calls. Howard himself traveled like, 5 times already, in the 1st quarter.

Stern punishes the Spurs but he'll probably give the refs a bonus if it helps the Lakers get going in the right direction.

Would love to see Vaughn & the Magic engage in a little Hack-A-Dwight tonight...maybe he'll turn Staples into The Brick House and we can sneak out of LA with the "W". Not much hope otherwise for the start of a five-game roadie.

The Lakers can move Pau Gasol to the center, and play Antawn Jamison at power forward. Jamison may be past his prime, but he is still a very potent big man with the unique ability to spread the floor with his shooting.

Pretty much called it there, didn't I???

If the Real Big Baby shot FTs at Big Baby's rate then Hack-a-Dwight wouldn't work...46% for the season at the charity stripe with many months off to work on the most fundamental of all skills...thanks for taking him off our hands, Lakers!

You cant build a team to win around a guy that is a liablity to have on the floor at the end of halfs.

Shaq was barely 50% career. A big reason why Kobe closed out games for them, and they didnt feel so bad about letting him go.

That's very true, but Shaq could actually play in the post. Throw the ball into him, and within 5 seconds, something happens, may it be a bucket or a pass to a bucket.

Throw the ball into Howard and nothing happens unless he's underneath the basket.

Let’s look at some numbers. Dwight Howard has been in the league for 8 years. In that span his highest regular season PPG average was 22.9 in 2010-11 and his highest RPG and BPG averages were 14.5 and 2.9 during the 2011-12 and 2008-09 seasons, respectively. Shaquille O’Neal in his first 8 years managed to average 27.4 PPG, 12.2 RPG, and 2.6 BPG. Also worth noting - Shaq’s 1999-00 MVP season featured career highs in assists per game (3.9) and minutes played per game (40.0).

Though the numbers seem to favor Shaq, it should be noted that Dwight Howard is currently only 26, a year younger than Shaq during his MVP season. Also Dwight Howard has won the Defensive Player of the Year award four times, a feat matched only by Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo and something Shaq has never done. So who’s the better player? Depends on what your team needs.

Btw, anyone have a clue about Kyle Singler, rookie from Duke?

Starting SF for Detroit, 27 MPG, 10PPG, 2+RPG, 1APG, 51%FGA, 78%FTA. Decent start to his career...1st year overseas in the Spanish league was a good move during the lockout.

Ty, surprised he is a starter. But the change has done them good.
