Wilson K-Hammer 2.7---really???

I have always had a modest backswing and used widebody racquets to help supply me with some extra power. I have used Wilson 4.0 Hammers for years and always had one or two 2.7 Hammers sitting around somewhere. Well, a couple weeks ago I saw an ad here on TW for a Wilson K-Hammer 2.7!!! What the...?!?!?!? Seriously? After all these years, a new racquet that is widebody, head-heavy, and that powerful at a standard length? Looks great too. I had to find out, so I ordered one. First time I played with it, it felt like magic and I played better singles than I have in quite some time. Thing is, I have never seen this racquet on the Wilson website. Does anyone know the story behind it? Cause for me and my game, it is a genie in a bottle! Anybody got the dirt on this racquet?

Is that the one that has like 75 stiffness and a 32mm beam at it's thickest point? I can't say I've ever even seen one in person, yet alone have any info on it! :razz:

A friend of mine has some rackets in his bag and yesterday let me use for several minutes (maybe 10) a Wilson Hammer 7.3, 110 inch head. Seemed pretty light and powerful. With a poly/gut setup it hit nicely and generated great topspin.

Yup, that's it. But where did it come from? It has never been on the Wilson tennis racquet home site. I just can't figure this out. Not complaining, mind you---I played doubles with it last night and once again hit extremely well. Just got me scratching my head about the origin of this new one.

Yeah, I used the original Wilson Profile midplus, second generation---a silver widebody racquet. It was 12 ounces. The hammer works well for me because even though it is a bit lighter, it is head-heavy and give me a lot of pop off the swing that I wouldn't consistently generate on my own with my shorter backswing. I play for consistency and placement and the hammer racquets allow me to add a good amount of power to my game without me needing to change my swing or anything. I love 'em.

No shame in playing with such a racquet if you can get the results. The best 'pound-for-pound' player I've ever played against used a 95 sqin Hammer 2.7 Aire-Shell (that was years ago). He was an ex-coach who, in his 50's and sporting a major beer-belly, could routinely beat club pros and even some guys who had played Satellite-level by virtue of supreme control and being able to get every serve back with that monster stick. More power to the Hammer!

The KFactor series first appeared in 2007 so I would assume that this racquet originally came out in 2007 or 2008...may be why it no longer shows up on the Wilson website.

I would say that it is made for a very specific type of player, such as yourself, who seems to use intelligence and placement instead of modern weapons to wear opponents down.

Glad to hear you found a newer racquet that is perfect for you!!!

Hey B---was talking to Aaron on the way down for the beach trip earlier this month, and he said he thought it very likely you would be back playing again. Said the issue might be tougher for a pro player who was trying to continue to compete at the same level of professional competence, but that for a good club player, with good rehab, he expected to see you back out playing again.
