Gamma Progression II VS Gamma X-ST

I am looking in to buying a stinger and was wondering what the difference was between these two and if they are good beginner stringers? Thank You

Just get a drop weight. I don't think a beginner should go off and buy a $729 machine without knowing what there doing. Get a dropweight, string for friends and local peeps, make money, buy a new one, sell the dropweight to someone.

Used machines are easier to make the money back off of. Like my Winn Pro i got, i already paid it off in 2 weeks.

Craigslist would be easiest IMO.You would be able to look at it hands on.

Hmm, i looked over the website and your right. In every area theres nothing. Try posting a wanted post for a stringer. Eventually someone should show up. Or put a wanted post in the classifieds here and ask for locals only?

Would u agree with Andy and go drop wieght?

nobody is selling anything in the Denver area :(

It took me 6 months of looking before finding a machine and I live in So Cal where machines pop up at least once a month. Denver may be a problem, but you may want to expand your search to the rest of the State.

I almost settled for a drop weight or even a glide bar machine, and had set my limit to $300. Eventually I found one, a Eagnas Flex 940 for $275, with a bunch of string.

I saw your thread. is it hard? and accurate tension?

I only messed up once on the mains but not very far into the process. I took my time and they give you step by step instructions. It was easy once I got the hang of it, which wasn't long. I could probably do it again without the directions :) ill get back to you on tension

ok awsome that would save me money. instead of one of these 600 or 700 dollar cranks. getting a 200 dollar one that works just fine

Ok just used racketune and I set the weight at 57. Ended up at 55 but I didn't increase tension when doing knots, so that's why it dropped I'm sure. Still definitely playable!!!

ok cool, so your supposed to increase the tension when doing the knots?

Yes. When tying the knots the string will want to go back to its previous state until the knots tighten up. It dropped a couple pounds but that's not much at all. Seriously many people on this board will tell you this is the best machine for your buck and I can vouch for that so far. Perfect for a starter or moderate stringer on a budget!

ok i think i might need to do it cause i don't have the money for one of those crank ones. thank you this was very helpful to hear another beginner say that this machine works very well

You're very welcome! After my first stringing, I have to say that I am inclined to do more string jobs :) good luck and merry Christmas! Let us know what you end up doing!

Yeah, my friends Klippermate is still running amazingly. He took very good care of it. I just do extra 5lb on last main because when i do my knots, i dont really get all the string through the grommet when arching so i compensate it with the extra 5lb. but on last couple mains i increase by 2lb so technically 7 lb extra on last main. :/

ok, is there a big difference between the gamma progression II 602 and the progression 200? I am looking at TW cause i got a gift card for christmas

Hey Andy do you still suggest going drop weight for my first one?

I would just suggest getting what you can get with the money you have. If you want a new one with a low budget, go get a X-2 ( Progression2 ) or a Klippermate. If your able to pick up a used one, definitely get it while you can. As long as most of the parts are there and its functional, go for it. Just make sure its a model that's worth buying for the price. When you find one, you should probably make a thread asking if its a good buy or search for a similar thread in the same situation as you.

The Progression II 602 has a 6 point mounting system rather than the 2 point mounting system in the Progression 200. If your able to buy the 602, definitely go for it. You wont regret the 6 point over the 2 point.

If you are only stringing for yourself, that is a good machine. When you get older and have some money saved, then you can get a big boy machine. ;)

because of not having the money i had to go with the 2pt mounting system i got the progression 200.

Heres how to put it together if you have trouble :

Heres someones channel that has videos on how to string with a very similar stringing machine :

Good luck! You should probably buy a cheap reel or 2. Technifibre has a 660' reel of Synthetic Gut for $34.95 in Natural color and Black. That should be an easy start off to make profit from other friends and local players.

it came with 6 sets of strings from gamma but i might do that thank you. And i will look at those links for sure if i have trouble i will let you guys know how it goes when i get it.

No, i dont think you need a tension calibrator for a drop weight machine. I'm pretty sure there only used for electric machines and lock out machines.

Though you might want a calibrator just to make sure your marks are right. You can find luggage scales on fleabay for under $5 shipped.

so i got my stringer in the mail today!!!! Trying to start my first string job but a little confused the manual i got doesn't give great instructions in my opinion. Any advice?

i got the progression II and measuring out the string i got the racquet on the machine but i am doing my dads to practice on and i am doing a one piece but not sure how long the strings needs to be. Then where to go from there

Is the center the at the top or bottom?

For Example: If the center main is at the bottom on a 16x19 racket. Measure 9 lengths from the top to the throat. You will start feeding from the Long side, through the center and to the Short side. If the center main were on the top, you would measure 8 lengths. Does that make sense?

How many grommets at the bridge of the throat? 8 grommets or 4 pairs? Then yes.

Which Prog II did you get? Flying clamps or Fixed?
