Nadal's wasting his time with this tournament. He should be making his first comeback in a clay tournament to get the knee accustomed to the softer court before trying to compete on a hard surface.

So what you're trying to say, would be better for him to skip AO?

Well, Rafa is out... I wonder how that will affect the draw. Will the winner of Murray/Tipsy get a W/O to the final?

ETA: Apparently Rafa will be replaced. Not sure though if Andy now gets the BYE to the semis or if Murray/Tipsy play as planned and someone else gets it. They will keep us posted.

Good that he's skipping this if he's still not 100% but hope it's not too long before he returns. On the one hand I want him to be out until Roland Garros so Federer has a shot there, on the other hand I want Nadal to be back asap so that tennis becomes more interesting. Yes I know Nadal's game in itself is a bit moonballish but you have to admit he plays a completely different style than anyone else and I do miss it a bit.

Meanwhile, Murray has landed in AD.

Sounds a bit off to me. Why the heck should Almagro get Nadal's bye and go straight to the semis? Murray should now get the bye and Almagro should play Tipsarevic!

whats the schedule

Murray VS Tipsarevic and Ferrer VS Berdych on Friday, semis on thursday, Final and 3rd place on Sunday.

I think Ferrer will win this, because he works hard in every single match. Does Djokovic need to play Hopman Cup? He's likely to go easy on Ferrer and lose in the semis, Ferrer V Murray in the final. Murray will act stupid like he did against Roddick in Miami because it's an exho. Djokovic gets 3rd place.

It's Thursday, Friday, Saturday, because the first ATP tournaments start on December 31st.

Organizers probably didn't want to ruin schedule, for example, when Federer withdrew from Paris, they were just put Victor Hanescu on his place in the draw...

Some nice points from both guys. Tipsy was pretty solid - Murray was going for lots more than he usually does - hence the high UE - although some of them were plain sloppy.

Off to Brisbane!

Murray doesn't get exhibitions, they're suppose to be light hearted and fun. He took it a little too seriously out there.

Nevertheless, you can see Murray's trying to end points quicker - bit sloppy like batz said at times but heh, it's an exho.

I wonder how he will do in Brisbane? I have to say he hasn't really played well in anything since Shanghai. Losing can get to be a bad habit if you're not careful. Just hopes he sorts himself out in time for the AO!

Well, he used to. He beat Fed and Rafa back to back to win the very first Abu Dhabi event back in 2009 when it was called the Capitala World Championships!

He took it a little too seriously out there.

I certainly hope not. If so, he shouldn't be losing to the likes of Tipsarevic. He's starting to make me a bit nervous ahead of the new season!

Dunno mate - I hope he does well but agree he hasn't been setting the heather alight lately. Getting there sooner can only help though.

That said, I'm not letting what happens in warm up events make me worry about his AO chances. He lost to Mahut and Troicki before Wimbledon and Chardy before the USO - they turned out OK.

I kinda thought he would be raring to go with all the training he's been doing in Miami lately. There was evidently no sign of it in Abu Dhabi so I will be watching how he gets on in Brisbane rather nervously now. I take your point about his pre-Wimby and pre-USO slumps. Still, I'd far rather he went into the AO with some wins behind him. He usually starts off the season well. I hope this year isn't going to be an exception!

I don't suppose i'm ever going to be able to relax and feel confident about his form am I? I really do envy Fed and Djoko fans in this regard! ;)

I thought he was uber-aggressive today; pushed way too hard.

Re the bolded - I refer you to my signature my friend ;)

Murray peaks for slams now - accept it. Let's see what AO brings.

Wasn't so long ago Fed & Rafa tanked Doha.

It's only an exo guys. There is no way to draw ANY conclusion from this. Can't wait for the real tennis to start. Exos are for money, yawn.

Well said V - and for the record, I said the same when Andy won it in 2009. The result of paid practise sets are irrelevant.

nole hits 2 DFs and 2 UEs and it's Ferru up a break.

Where did that come from? Nole was GOATing there.

Novak did this last year. Played awesome stuff, all out attacking but never really repeated it in the upcoming season.

I see Novak didn't party too much over the break. Bright eyed and bushy tailed from the get-go :)
Are you a Novak fan F1Bob? If he just repeated his 2012 season, I would consider it pretty good...

LOL duh... I know he had a good season. He just wasn't as free flowing in an attacking essence as he was/has been in this tournament.

Probably because it's an exho and has no pressure whatsoever to perform.

This is as good as a attacking display you'll see from Novak.
