But it was obvious Fed would prevail at the end. I don't think Simon is capable of such an upset in a slam. Now less than ever. (And it would definitely be an easy one for either Djoko or Murray. Not my fault if Fed is more vulnerable than other top players)

I bet Djoko will get Monfils, Tomic, Dolgo, Isner, Delpo, and Murray lol. With the luck he has with draws, wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Gasquet is a easy match-up for almost all of the top guys. He is flashy but only plays well in patches.
Simon is not because he doesn't give you anything with his style, he is usually consistent, a sort of skinny ferrer.

I don't think Gasquet is an easy match-up for Federer and Murray if he plays well and Simon isn't an easy match-up for Federer if he plays well.
While i agree that Simon is generally a consistent player like Ferrer, i don't think he's a sort of skinny Ferrer: he's more powerful, change the pace of the ball more often, he's a counterpuncher who can hit surprinsing flat shots from time to time when playing well (that's why Federer can struggle against him) whereas Ferrer is a grinder, an aggressive one at his best but who can't be really surprising in his shotmaking.
Ferrer is simply better mentally, physically, more regular, has a more consistent serve (much better first serve percentage) and more willpower in general.

Novak hasn't gotten a tough draw in quite a while. It will probably be Murray that gets that kind of draw (he always does).
But then the tough draw will conveniently dissolve for Andy by the second week, which it always seems to do.

Murray's draw always just evaporates no matter how tough it is, either that or his opponents melt in front of him.

Davydenko can be the toughest but also the easiest opponent possible. On a good day he could beat anyone but on a bad day he could lose against a player u have never heard of.
I believe if he wins the tourney he will be seeded around 30 or so.
Regarding AO,i dunno how fit he is to last best of 5 set matches.

At this point, not vs top players, no. He used to be in a best of 3. Never much in a best of 5 anyway.
Maybe not against rog or Andy or nole, but how About Ferrer, or berdych or tsonga? He could threaten them right?

That's untrue, often it took Federer to stop him. (on hardcourt alone: 2006,2007 USO SF and 2006, 2010 AO QF); he would've destroyed Nadal had they met there.
IF he can hold on to his current form, he's definitely a dangerous floater.
But he's too inconsistent these days; in theory he can still produce an upset, but I can't see it happening.

In a slam? I don't think so. Ferrer maybe but Ferrer is 30 anyway and I don't see him as a main slam contender at this point either.

That's a joke. Davy would not have destroyed Nadal in any slam (except maybe on hard pre-two thousand eight). Davy himself admits he's much better in best of 3 format and he's right.

I find it unlikely he will travel to Australia and get involved in the commentary so soon after he retired.More likely,if he is interested in doing some commentary, he will chose the Us Open.

I think that when oppenents "melt" or choke, its because (as much as alot of people on this forum wont admit) Murray IS a pretty daunting task of trying to beat. Everyone knows that he and the likes of djokovic will chase down pretty much every ball and get it back into play, making them extremely hard to put away even on a good day.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he won't be commentating this AO. He would probably do a good job though, because he's a fun guy that knows how to talk and he knows a lot about the modern game. The question is if he wants do it.

With the draw ceremony coming closer it's time to take a look at the strongest unprotected, unseeded players. Who do you consider to be a dangerous floater? This is my list of first round opponents the top seeds will want to avoid!
Monfils - A solid top 20 player, but unlikely to cause an upset especially given his long absence.
Nalbandian - On a good day he's always a threat (not only to line judges!). He didn't play any warmup events though, has anyony got info on him?
Davydenko - Showed us in Doha that he's not done yet, but with his inconsistency these days it remains to be seen whether Playstation or Gollum shows up!
Baghdatis - In good form again and always inspired in Australia. One of my dark horses. He might be able to clinch one of the last seeds though.
Hewitt - Doesn't need an introduction really, he played an inspired tournament last year, let's hope he can do it one more time! 3 cheers for Rusty!
Tomic - Had a disappointing 2012, but like Baghdatis, he can do a little extra in Australia. Tough to predict though.
Dimitrov - Playing the Brisbane final and he looked very strong throughout the entire tournament. The hype is back, let's hope he can handle it! (Should he win the final, he might just be seeded)

- To clinch #1: Djokovic to lose at the QF and Federer to win the title.
- The only rankings that are guaranteed for top 10 players are Federer and Ferrer, who will not go below their current rankings respectively regardless of result
- Ferrer will overtake Nadal regardless of result, Ferrer can also take over Murray by winning the title if Murray loses his 1st match Down Under.
- Berdych can overtake Nadal if he reaches the final, he can also overtake Ferrer if Berdych wins the title and Ferrer loses before the 3rd round.
- Delpo can overtake Nadal if he wins the title.
So the range of rankings that the top guys can end up at is:
- Djokovic and Federer: #1 or #2
- Murray: #3 or #4
- Ferrer: #4 or #5 (Ferrer>Nadal)
- Nadal: #5, #6 or #7

I think the schedule is up on Thursday (8th Jan).
I think Murray will win it, although I would love to see Federer in the final or holding up the trophy.
I also want to see Gasquet do well (quarter finals at least) just so we have another one handed backhander up there. 17 people voted Nadal? Sadly, he's not playing guys... I hope he gets well with enough time ahead of the next slam.
