Couple of ideas.
Celebrity tends to attract celebrity because they move in similar/equal circles and aren't impressed by each others' money; there's more of an equal footing. Neither party is likely to be star-struck by the other.
Many (if not a clear majority) of the girls on the tour are introverts, in large part due to the insularity of the tennis lifestyle. They're going to be less-inclined to ask someone out; rather, they'd be the ask-ees. "Normal" guys are more likely to be intimidated approaching a famous woman; you hear a lot of hot Hollywood/music biz chicks talking about how guys are too intimidated by them, and how said chicks are lonely as a result (must be the ones who don't want a celebrity boyfriend).
A great book about life on the WTA Tour is Michael Mewshaw's Ladies of the Court. It's about the '91 tour, but has a lot of in-depth reporting on the way players conduct their personal and professional lives. I highly recommend it.
