Should Fed Fans be worried of Tomic?

I have a feeling that a round 3 clash with fed and tomic will not be so straightforward. Serious thread! Who thinks thinks this will be far from a walk in the park for Fed, maybe even a loss?

I don't think so. Tomic's game relies a lot on using the slice to out maneuver his opponent and then put a big forehand. That should play right into Fed's hands and I'd like to see Tomic being as neutral as he is in rallies and still beat Fed. Only reason for concern I think is if ******** shows up

Tomic is one of the most dangerous players in federer's draw. This is definitely one of my most favourite draws in recent years. :p

Unless Tomic goes against his whole character and plays good consistent attacking aggressive tennis, and doesn't choke and puts everything into the match... this will be in straights.

I don't think Tomic has a great matchup against Federer. Probably much better against Djokovic and Murray who aren't as aggressive.

What real weapons does Tomic possess? His movement is pretty bad out there and he tends to hit from a defensive position quite often, especially on the backhand side. No huge serve, his forehand is incredibly flat and tends to fly, his slice can be good but tends to sit up if he's hitting it from a defensive position. He hits a decent two-hander but not on the level of Djokovic or Murray. How could he possibly compete against the top players?

what makes you guys think tomic will make it to round 3?

if he does make it, by some miracle, he will be crushed (straight sets) by either Federer or Davydenko (he was awesome at Doha, but his hip gave him some trouble in the final against Gasquet). Actually, it's the Federer vs. Davydenko match that I think will be interesting. They've had some fun ones against one another in the past.

Tomic would have done much better against Djokovic. Federer is a horrible matchup for him. Honestly Fed's draw might look tough on paper but he owns all the players in question, the only possible threat is Raonic and he is in very poor form. I'll be stunned if Federer doesn't make the semis.

I feel as though Tomic may be over confident for the AO this year. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but he just said in a recent interview that he feels unbeatable right now. If Fed can take the first set in the same manner as last year, the kid will be rattled.

Also, nothing against the players, but the calibre of players in the Sydney draw is a big difference from coming up against one of the top 10 in a slam (obviously).

Well I'm sure Roddick felt pretty good about himself in 07 after beating Fed in Kooyong. Then Fed won the first set at AO then...........yeah.........

Tomic will get squashed like Hewitt did at the US Open in 2004.

I'm afraid to get too overconfident, but I'm far more worried about Raonic and Tsonga than Tomic, and I think Fed can get past them just fine.

The thing is, one of these days someone is gonna break through. Federer is 31 now, he could have a bad day or sth. like that. Tomic's confidence is skyrocket-high right now, since he won his first title this week and hasn't lost a match this year yet. It's also his home tournament. I'd be a bit wary tbh. We'll see, I guess.

Yes, Federer should be worried, Tomic is young and full of confidence he has nothing to lose. Tomic just won his first ATP tour title in Sydney and he's going to give Federer a real fight if they meet in the third round.

man...

last year federer won easily and he was on second gear. if tomic wins (or even wins 2 sets) it is even more of an upset/surprise than the rosol nadal match (rosol is weaker but has bigger weapons).

I agree with this.

Tomic has great strokes, if the ball comes to him that is. The movement and anticipation are horrible. Roger will win in straights.

eh no, tomic's game right now doesn't pose that much of a threat to federer .....federer is wayyy better at the slice and dice game and has no problems handling it himself if he is anywhere near decent form ...

I'd be realtively more wary of davy hitting a hot streak and sustaining it and raonic serving out of his mind ... though I think federer in decent form should be able to beat them ...

Good form over a ten day period usually means nothing in the scheme of overall class.

Tomic would need to play his absolute best and for Federer to have a shocker of a match in order to beat him.

Just watching the Anderson-Tomic match replay on tennis channel. I don't see Tomic threatening Fed. I will give Tomic a set at the most if Fed has a lapse of concentration but I don't see that happening.
His movement could be better considering he is just 20.

Shows how much of a Nadal fan you are.

I didn't say it was my favourite. My favourite draw has, and always will be, RolandGarros2012. The final that mentally crushed Djokovic and made Nadal the only king of a slam. The match against Monaco that saw Nadal double-bagel a player for the first time at RolandGarros. The match that saw Nadal hold 71 of 72 service games at RolandGarros from the 1R to the SF. A draw that unfolded perfectly to set up the most historic grand slam final in world history, Nadal vs Djokovic. :p

:confused::confused::confused:

Raonic is def. the one Fed's fans should be scared of, not low-ranked, overrated, arrogant Tomic!!

Raonic is a tall, untalented oaf. Raonic folds easily in the slams (see USO2012 against Murray) and the top 4 play better in the slams too. Raonic lacks the mental capacity to stay with them, whereas Tomic does (QF of Wimbledon2012, and in fact had won 7 matches before facing Djokovic, essentially winning the tournament). :p

And what's your least favorite draw? Wimbledon 2012?
