Federer isn't so much choking the break points as Tomic is doubling the level of his game during them. That dropshot was brilliant.

Yeah, Fed does have tendency to mess up on BPs but that's largely not the case today, Tomic usually came up with a big serve or FH to save them.

YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

If that's what it takes to make a breakpoint against Tomic, Federer will do it, no problem.

1/12 on break points for Federer now

make that 1/13

While you can make an excuse for Federer as Tomic played well on half of the break points, Fed screwed up at least 4-5 easy ones.

He always does. He'd have a few FO titles now were it not for wasted bps against Rafa.

Game over.

I have to say though Tomic handled the pressure pretty well. He played confidently and aggressively blocked Roger on a number of break point opportunities. Still not sure about him though.

Good night everyone.

I think this is a great warmup to week 2 for Fed. Moving/defending well, and hanging tough in nearly every rally, despite Tomic's laying into pretty much every FH he gets. The winner/UE ratio today is tremendous.

I've never seen someone be so flat footed so much. Wow. I'm not sure if he's tired, slow, or to cool to put in effort...

He would need a good draw. Bumping into the big 4 before the QF is pretty probably at the moment lookin at his ranking.

Perhaps, but anyone outside the top 4 is fair game I'd say, and I think Djoko is still not a Wimbledon lock in terms of beating anyone outside the Big 4.

Tomic's backhand looks much improved, that is going to be quite a shot in the future. He's got it off both wings, it's falling into place. That forehand is going to be pretty difficult to utilise effectively on clay mind.

Fed's defense tonight has been INCREDIBLE. Match was won on that 5-3 point in the breaker that Tomic seemingly had in the bag to go to 6-3... But Fed with a couple of impossible stabs to stay in and eventually win it.

Such clean tennis by both guys. Impressed by both.

Agreed. Tomic is going to be a multiple Grand Slam winner, calling it right now. Beyond the physical talent, he's got good instincts and the mentality to win. Most players would be wilting right now, but the little punk still wants to play.

Fed had like a million stab saves that kept him in the point.

Yes, according to suresh, Federers famed defensive is just "fluke shots landing in". I'll never forget that one...

Great match to watch. No time wasting, attacking play, high level.

Yep. At one point I looked at the Monfils Simon match on the iPad and it made me throw up a little in my mouth compared to this one. The ball striking, let's just say, was a little different over there. Was like a 3.0 match compared to this one.

His fh is actually pretty sound mechanically and very repeatable and controllable to him. I don't see why it won't be effective on clay. It's pretty devastating shot actually. Super flat and fast, stays really low. really hard to defend again and again on any surface.
