Murray - 5th match in a row in the day!

Fedex

Federer and Djokovic have played nearly all their matches at night with different conditions - day fast, night slow.
After his match with Chardy assuming he get's through, Murray will be primed for fast then must re adjust quickly.
This could be a significant advantage for Djokovic and Federer.
The organisers should be balancing things out better to make it a more even playing field.

Why would the organisers give prime time to Murray? Particularly with his opposition?
"Even playing field" would also entail the quickening of courts across the board. But most organisers don't seem to look at it as a viable option from business standpoint. Sad but true.

Murray has rolled all of his opposition with very little fanfare.

The match ups just aren't compelling storywise nor qualitywise.

Last years Wimbledon final was a fantastic match, and although my man lost, I still really enjoyed the tennis, and looking forward to similar quality if Fed and Murray meet again.
The organisers might be jeopardising what should be a great semi with this scheduling.

Yes it might favour Fed. But they are not gonna sacrifice primetime Tsonga-Fed for Murray. Nobody does that. They might have picked Murray-Haase over Tomic-Mayer first round as a night match but other than that, Fed's draw has made it really easy decisions.

Not really fair to Andy. It definitely does give an advantage to Fed and Lance since they will be used to the conditions at night. Andy should have had the night match against Chardy.

Same for Fed, no? ;)

Do you think Andy requested day time, or is it just that his AO accomplishments are way behind RF and ND , so the Aussie interest is low. Had he faced an Aussie he might have got a night time match ?

Federer is really in the groove just now playing amazing tennis, and Murray needs to get his eye and timing in quick.

It's a good one, but I can't take credit for it. Someone else here called him that yesterday; I can't remember who it was though. :)

I saw the name and tried to ignore it. From a purely comical point of view it was funny and made me smirk but, seriously, I don't think you should be accusing people of something like this.

I think they've finally realized nobody wants to watch Murray.

The Daily Mail reported that Murray's camp is really unhappy with this decision. And to pick Tomic over Murray was just... But yeah, with this draw, it's hardly surprising. I can understand both sides. I think if Andy had played Del Potro he would probably have gotten the night session. They should have given him a night session on Hisense, at least though.

It was the same last year.

In the night session the organisers try to put the best possible matchups with a top player or a local favourite.
Federer had Davydenko,Tomic,Raonic and now Tsonga while Murray got Sousa,Berankis,a tired Simon and now Chardy.I don`t see any matches where Federer should have gotten the day match over Murray.

I caught it, don't worry. Made me chuckle.

On topic, I agree it's a bit unfair to Andy, but nobody in their right mind from a business standpoint at least, would put Murray-Chardy on at night over Federer-Tsonga. And Fed has rolled his competition, but he's played guys with more "name power" if you will. Which is why he's getting the night matches. Even as early as the 2nd round he played someone that most fans that went to watch it actually knew, and had only declined significantly since 2010. Then he played an up and coming Aussie = automatic night match. Then he played Raonic which many people thought was an upset alert, and were looking forward to. Now he plays Tsonga while Murray plays Chardy and will likely stomp him. Murray's overall draw hasn't been tough at all either. No big name players in it. Hence the imbalance in the schedule. Unfair? Maybe so. But unexpected? Nope.

Funny -- not at all.

I can see how it happened, and it's not the organisers' fault that Murray hasn't faced more interesting opposition. On paper, his match against Simon could have got the night spot over Fed vs Raonic, but it was just too inevitable it would be one sided, if it took place at all, and Raonic has more hype.

Nevertheless, it is still a disadvantage and unfair that someone seeded, and therefore expected to reach the semis has no match experience of playing on the main court in night match conditions, while his opponent has plenty. It's more about that than whether or not Andy is facing more tiring conditions, or that Federer has been protected from them. Neither have been pushed hard in any matches to date.

Dang. This blows.

It's not fair play. He won the most recent slam. The SF and final are night matches.

Murray's so undercooked the chef's won't touch him with a barge pole.
If he meets Federer he'll be in for a shock and could be toast.

murray will r@pe federer when they meet in the semis and lose to djokovic or beat him

This. Federer is on form and been loving the night conditions. This is not fair on Murray, poor opposition or not. He should have had at least one chance to play a night match.

The people who play at night generally are the ones fans most want to see most and will fill the stands doing so ie Djokovic and Federer

Andy needs a proper haircut before he can come for night matches .. he should take a page out of Noel's book.

You need to look neat when you are on telly, not like you've just had a pillow-fight with your brother. :)

On the plus side though he gets more time off - no 1am finishes for him. if he plays a day match vs chardy and then the night match vs fed then he will have more time off. Could be a big boost especially if his 31 year old opponent has a late one vs tsonga and has less recovery time while Andy rolls over chardy and can get a nice early night.

Agreed not fair scheduling but Federer v Tsonga is a much more exciting match than Murray Chardy.

I have a strong feeling that it will turn out to be just the opposite. Chardy will very likely give Murray a run for his money whilst Fed will almost certainly deal with Tsonga like he did with Raonic!

Murray often gets the short-end of the stick when it comes to night matches which is unfair for him as he nearly always plays his best matches at night (witness the USO where his 2 night matches were much superior in quality to the 5 day-time ones)!

Federer and Djokovic are always guaranteed night matches no matter who their opponents might be. I guess Murray is still some way off from achieving their kind of star-billing. I wonder how many Slams it will take?

Easy pick on who gets prime time. Even if Murray was playing someone notable his popularity with fans plays a huge role in why Federer (or even Djokovic) would still get a prime time slot over himself.

If fed has an epic with tsonga though Murray will be laughing with the extra time off. not only that but his draw has been easy so far, dunno why Murray fans always complain about scheduling. if he had the night match and it went a bit long you would probably be upset he got less time off. this way if he does get a tough match vs chardy (which i doubt) at least he has time to recover. I wish fed was playing early instead if possibly having to play into the early hours.

the muzzette should consider himself lucky to have been scheduled on the main court because he's playing an entertaining player like jeremy.

I won't even care to watch unless Chardy is on the verge of creating major upset. I will just follow the score line. Nothing more needed!

The organisers still need to be fair. Murray is the world #3 player and deserves the respect that comes with that ranking. The alternative is for them to just keep asking the fans: "Hey guys, who do you want to see in the night session?" No doubt many of them would shout back, "Yay Federer, yay Djokovic" in which case nobody else would ever have a chance to showcase their talents and abilities in the prime-time sessions unless they somehow snuck through to the final.

I think the Murray-Chardy match is the more likely to have some excitement. I doubt Chardy can pull off the upset, but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to 4 or 5 sets and has some drama. I have a feeling Tsonga won't be able to do too much to challenge Federer. That being said, I'm glad Murray is playing earlier because I can hopefully watch it without having to get up at 4 am like I did this morning for Djokovic :)

Provided Hisense and Rod Laver Arena play similarly, Murray could have benefited from a night match on the former. Berankis in the evening would have been a reasonable test, but he and Murray played during the day on RA whilst Simon and Monfils were scheduled for 7pm on Hisense. And on Friday there were night matches featuring men on both of the main courts, and it's hard to see why Murray/Simon couldn't have been pushed back two hours from its 5pm start time (although I think it began later than that).

Murray will have played all 5 matches during the day. Federer and Djokovic just one. The semis and final are night matches.
This isn't London. It's mid summer Melbourne.
Advantage Federer and Djokovic wouldn't you say?
Sure Murray has been lucky with his draw and that scorching 40 degree day he managed to dispatch his opponent in 3 sets but he couldn't practice the day before in trying to conserve energy and hydrate.
The thing in Murray's favour is that he will be fresher than normal at this stage of a slam which might compensate for being more ring rusty and not acclimatised to the very different night conditions.
