I always say you have to start young with serious dicipline , As I heard this and saw I was just blown away and embarrassed , THE TRAINERS BROUGHT IT OUT hahahah

love to hear all your thoughts.

Wow, at first I didn't understand what you were saying, but then I saw those guys and I was flabbergasted....

It would be the Americans who would make us look bad...

If eating candy can make Isner a top 10 player in the world, would that suggest that our conventional wisdom about sweet is bad for tennis may be wrong? I dare to offer some support to Isner's candy eating during a match. Candy can provide quick energy to him. If he just keeps eating a little at every change over, would he sustains the "candy high" through out the match!

I was blown away cause I have been able to hang out with some of the top athletes in boxing and MMA and know how serious their diets are , is candy ok to eat as a top athlete ? yes during comp ? ,but when I here these guys are munching away during competition I am flabbergasted also .

I also watched one of them text messaging during the the Isner match and they even pointed out how the Brazilians were all fired up and are players were more then likely suffering from a sugar crash, unbelievable .

They said they had a big bag and they were munching away , as a top athlete no good .

Yes, because candy has been proven to degrade one's ability to hit a tennis ball at the professional level.

Most sports drinks contain high level of sugar. Candy seems to help Isner's game. Yes Isner is a big man, but he is limited in weapons comparing to other top 20 players. He has a huge 1st serve and a big forehand. This is. Many players ranked outside of 100 would have more weapons than him. But Isner is good at winning long and hard battles. You go figure why? Haha it must be candy!:)

I think this candy chatter and phone talk is taken completely out of context. It's Davis Cup, a TOTALLY different environment than an ATP event.

I'm not too worried about candy. Guillermo Coria was caught doping. Gasquet "french kissed" somebody that had consumed an illegal substance and as a result he failed a drug test (what a joke of a story). Tomas Muster was a known smoker when he played. Maybe there are still a few around today who knows. Maria has her own candy line (Sugarpova's). By the way, none of those examples are Americans.

On another note, I was there yesterday and our guys were great with the fans, especially Isner. He meandered through autograph hounds to spend some time with a boy in a wheelchair. He called they boy by his name like they were best friends and then gave him some quality time. It was an amazing effort from the gentle giant.

Coria was caught trying to improve his performance not wreck it ! As for Gasquet he is and idiot and obviously likes doing drugs and we see he cant get over the hump with all his talent and I always wondered why until I heard about his FAMOUS kiss then I explained to my player why he was having shortfalls , I have had a great history with that vitamin Gasquet is fond of made a lot of money off it and trust me it will ruin you and cause a lack of improvement .

Chalk when you have trainers passing out candy to our players during competition we are in trouble which we can already see is the talk of everyone , "whats wrong with American tennis" , couldn't imagine Fed or Gluten free Djoke's trainer showing up with a bag of goodies from Halloween"during competition !

As for it being Davis it is more important then and ATP match right ? should matter more right ? you should bring your absolute best right ? No excuses now your no longer alone you have teammates , my player longs to play Davis cup for the pride of the USA , before his match with the Croation at the OB he had Americans tell him just try and win a set , he looked at me and said "this kid is on the wrong soil today " then when out and took care of business . His whole goal was to final at the OB for himself and the USA ,, So please explain how it was different then and ATP event ?

it was the whole squad not just one guy .

I did not recognize it happened yesterday in the tie of US vs Brazi:oops:l. Jim Courier is the captain of the US team. Should we trust him that he knows how to win tennis matches and he would do all he can to help Team USA win this tie? I have a feeling this candy is specifically made for tennis players. It should also be safe and contain no deer antlers:roll:

Houston we have a problem. BryBros down 2 sets to 1 to Brazil. I don't see the twins on their phones and I don't see them eating any candy.

Brad - it was a great win against Coria - now you are going to have to move on - its not a career - how did the futures series in Florida go? No Excuses...

played one event lost 63 64 in the 2nd round to a tough player from Brazil ,guy was good he came back out the next week and took out fellow American Kozlov 60 62 , these guys from other countrys are coming out and their hungry and their not hungry for sweet tarts and Snickers .

all our young guys need to tighten up everything in their games and lives cause most the guys in the futures are what I call the bottom feeders and they are all on survival mode .

meh. I think we are making a mountain out of a molehill. I bet it doesn't happen too often.

we have had issues at our High performance centers from porn in the dorms to players at 15 getting caught using fake ID's to get in night clubs with very little consequences , I could go on and on but when it comes to discipline our players don't have the highest regards for it nor do have the people on these blogs .

Make these kids spend a month in an army boot camp... so that they improve their fitness and develop required disciplines... BTW, isn't it surprising that there is little or insufficient adult supervision at the training center?

I'm not too worried about Isner eating a candy bar, he was #10 in the world after the U.S. Open. With some of the U.S. women/girls like Oudin, I'd be more worried about it. Seems the USTA High Performance is the USTA High Calorie.

I want a job with the USTA, all the trashed that is talked is sad, until you go down there and see in person what tgeyvare doing for training and encouragement on a day in/out basis, then you have no idea. Great team of coaches and great group of kids to be honest

To be clear Isner was playing the match what was said on the video by Blake was all the US players on the bench were probably having a suger crash from all the candy they were eating that the trainers brought for them, the Brazilians were all fired up we were stoic ,I know Isner is pretty solid about his diet so I doubt he was grubbing candy during his match .

Once again this is a by-product of a broken thought we teach about everything has to be "fun" on the tennis court and we sit here baffled on why were not making serious head way with American tennis .

The official results according to corretennis are little different:

Daniel Dutra Da Silva def. Deiton Baughman 6-3,6-3 (not 6-3,6-4)
Daniel Dutra Da Silva def. Stefan Kozlov 6-0,6-3 (not 6-0,6-2)

They might be wrong, I'm just saying.

Also lets's not forget, at the time of the match Kozlov was still technically only 14 years old, born February 1, 1998.

Yes and Baughman was playing through that nasty flu that is going around but if your on the court your on the court and the results are what they are .

BTW I didnt know the driving age in Fl. was 14 ? I saw him driving inFl. back in Nov. and he would have been that technical age you just mentioned , so again is the age 14 for driving in FL or is this Man'Ti Teo the last 4 or 5 yrs and eveyone on here is just gullable?

Chalk was responding to this guy about the age and what I believe no matter what everybody believes on here , I see someone driving I believe they are of age or cheating the system one way or another cheating yeah ?

If you saw DB or Papas or Nikko or Luca in a bar drinking they either have a fake ID or they are 21, one or the other and if they are telling us they are 19 there is something wrong , but we both can agree is there is a lie being exercised .

If you are absolutely certain he's lying about his age, I challenge you to pursue the truth or just finally let it go.

I dont know whos lying or if anyone is lying I am just a guy hearing people talking about a 14 yr that was driving a car and was wondering how this is ? either someone is breaking the law which is not honest or we are all a bunch of Manti Teo's being duped , Just saying .

ultimatley everyone on here listen to TCF spit out is garbage and everyone buys his daughter is a super talent !! Has anyone seen her play ?? If not and you believe she is a super talent then you are a "Manti Teo" a college grad in love with someone they have never seen yet believe they are a real talent and to that I laugh .

as for the age could care a less I like the kid cause he fights through his matches and unlike most kids I watch he does not give up so he has my respect but if I question his age because somethings I witness cotradict please dont fault me for using my mind a nd not blindley excepting things hook ,line and sinker .

Funny that you should mention Kozlov's age and driving a car. In Florida you can get a learners license at 15 but must have a licensed driver 21 or older in the front seat with you. This could be the case, but that means he is older than 14 or maybe just turned 15. Isner lost in five sets today, opponent just played really well. This court speed did not help the Americans this weekend in my opinion.

According to Chalk back in Nov. he was 14yrs , lets move on! I brought this thread up cause I was watching Davis cup and Bllake said the reason our bench was stoic or paralized of energy was cause they were probably having a sugar crash from all the candy he watched them all munching away on but these guys were given all the candy from our trainers there so they were just doing what they thought was good I guess.

were the courts hard or clay ? wouldnt hard favor us ?

Back on topic how did Isner do ???

Isner lost. As you know he's been injured and I thought his movement was suspect. Credit to Bellucci for showing up because he didn't on Friday vs Querrey. And Sam didn't play his best yesterday but he won. He dominated aces, winners and unforced errors so the match was on his stick. I was glad that he was able to notch 2 of Team USA's 3 wins.

A word of advice as it looks like you are new here... Avoid this topic on the forum unless you want to be the frog in the blender.

Kozlov was driving because his dad Andrei is an old world guy who could not give a hoot about many rules. Kids in the old country drive when they can operate a vehicle, not when some regulation allows them to. Not saying its right, but just explaining things. He goes by the beat of his own drummer and always has. If it was more convenient to the tennis plan to allow Stefan to drive over to practice or back home, they do it.

Yep, if he can break one rule, I don't doubt that he is breaking more. While everyone has their spouse, friend, relative, caretaker, nanny, relative, etc. shuttling kids around, he's letting his kid endanger the lives of others for his own tennis convenience? Hope no one sees Boris driving for a while...

Stefan is the age they say he is, like chalk said, either prove it or stop slandering the family.

The flu huh?....like I said all along, going to be impossible to work your way up through the back door of the futures when you get sick or injured all the time. Got to play and win and win and win every week...in Mexico, Tempe, Bangladesh, and on and on....bad hotels, bad food, little training time, red eye flights.....making it through a long stay in the futures, into the money top 80 is pretty much a myth.

Front door is the only way...either your kid has got it at age 15-16, maybe 17, or time to get realistic.

Please detail what the " front door" is for the board here to understand , as I know the way to the top of this sport is through the future " gathering points" ,then the Challengers and on to the 250 , 500,1000 , unless you win the Zoo you are going through the futures !!!

So please explain how your daughter is going through your imaginary front door?

The difference is I am no Manti Teo I don't just believe and make stuff up to fit my imaginary story's I build like good ole TcF, if I see something that contradict what I am hearing I use my brain not build up and old USSR story or hope and inner city kid will come save the day haha.

Btw I love how TCF just comes up with a story like he does, like these kids that are training in far away country's and are so incredible it would blow our minds ,what I like is that his daughter who according to him hits as big as Serena yet gets spanked by some weak 12 yr old pusher now thats a story worth listening to!

Until someone shows me a video, I won't believe he was driving. I find it amusing how people get so wrapped up in his age. I've been hearing these wacky tales for 7 years now which would make him eighteen or nineteen which clearly isn't the case.
