Yeah, he looked a bit nervous for the first few games and then started to look more comfortable and made some of his patented beauty shots, although he didn't have a lot of work because the opponents knew better and sent most of their shots in Pico's direction.

It was the wonky coverage. Rafa looks just fine and and very much the same as he's looked for a number of years. Except for that shirt he was wearing - fugly! :-D

Really? I loved the shirt  I loved the tennis too! Minor rust but really the same Rafa on clay I've loved from day 1. Extremely promising. Very excited about the rest of the tournament now.

I still don't get how on earth Rafa won the French open last year if this knee was starting to go bad around that time.

He was getting painkilling injections. If you look at a picture of Nadal's knees around that time, you can see many needle marks.

Yep. Here's one of those pictures. Click on it to enlarge and the needle marks are very obvious. :(

But of course he didn't have anything wrong with his knee and was just getting needles stuck in his kneecap for sh!ts and giggles. Anyone with half a brain knows that is just so much fun.

can see the marks on both knees..cortisone injections ??..could be..i was refused cortisone injections by my doctor, ironically cos they were too swollen. 'we cant do it into swollen knees' he said..bwahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa i had to laugh or i wouldve cried

if rafa had cortisone there is a limit to how much you can have, i think..in any given time span..maybe that also was one of the reasons along with still getting pain whey he stopped playing last june after wimby.

Good pictures of the two of them. They're such a good looking couple. Thanks for posting. Any links to the original article?

And Crisstti, did you make it to Rafa's doubles match? What did you think? I've been waiting for your report on your adventure. :)

I did :)

I've been awfully busy, haven't had time to report on anything I'm afraid.

Still:
I was three rows right behind the kinds with the RAFA signs yesterday, they were very funny, danced with the signs during the breaks, and kept shouting "I love you Rafa!", to the amusement of the public. They shouted "I love you Pico" which sounds funny over here since "pico" means "dick".
Shouted "Tío Toni, tío Toni" and got a thumbs up from him.

Rafa looks a lot slimmer in person.

Sounds like it was a fun time. It's always good to be with a crowd that's upbeat and excited. Oh, poor Pico! Does it mean something else in Argentina? I can't imagine that becoming such a popular nickname for him if that's what it means there too. :-D

That's what everyone who sees him for the first time says which is why it's kind of funny that he's thought of as some muscular behemoth who must be on steroids. Most say he's taller than they thought from seeing him on tv too. Did you think so?

So you saw the quarter against G-T...do you have tickets for any other matches? Can you pls email me Crisstti. I tried to email you but your profile doesn't allow it. Mine does. I have something I want to ask/tell you. :)

Lol yeah, those kids were very funny. And "love" in Spanish is kind of a stronger word, in the sense that it cannot be used lightly like "I love movies" or whatever.
I was a little worried with the cameras that kept filming them though, 'cause I had called in sick at my job and didn't want to appear on TV, lol.

No, in Argentina "pico" only also means "a little", used when telling the time, like 8:00 "y pico".

He looked tall, but I knew he was... I guess if he was next to me he would look really tall :)

I saw both his first doubles and singles, and then both quarters. Unfortunately I don't have tickets for today's match, which is the one against the highest ranked player. I have tickets for tomorrow. They changed the doubles final for tomorrow, as you probably know, so if stay the night I could see it.

Sure, I will email you right away :).

Lol, I think you know which one.

Damn, I can't believe he's gonna be off to Brazil now. It all went so fast.

BTW, the people from the tournament have kept talking how nice he's been, signing autographs for half an hour after every match, practising with Chilean juniors, etc.

Yep, I would know ;). Let's just say no one would be nicknames that in Chile. And a street close to where I live is called "Pedro Rico" and someone keeps changing the R into a P.

Do email me the link! :)

"God" lost some of his powers, no? ;)

I was a little worried, but the truth is Zeballos did play great. Rafa could well have won and playing just a little bit better he would have... he was exhausted in the third set. And in the doubles (I'm not sure he won one of his serves there).

I am sure he will be fine in time.

Losing to a clown in a final does that to you, no? ;)

I knew he wouldn't win the tournament. I also know his career is over so I expect nothing from him anymore. I am also not the one who keeps insisting he will be fine, only to turn around and relish in the fact that he lost to some one and done mug he never would have lost to in a million years before. ;)

No, I am just having some fun. In all seriousness, I don't believe Nadal's career is over and I believe he will be fine in time for Monte Carlo.

He looks so uncomfortable there. He looks like he's disgusted with the whole situation.

Oh come one Clarky, he's come back and not retired while not telling the fans like you were saying... aren't you even a little bit happy about it?.

He was in kind of a foul mood after losing the final, but he still let the ball girls/boys mob him and took several pictures and signed everything for them. I say props to him.

Not really. I would rather he retire than continue on at 25% of what he once was. It's sad to see and I would rather not watch him decline so badly. Seems Borg knew what he was doing all along.

"The recovery process is following its normal path. I had a very positive week in Chile. But it is evident that I need more matches, more training sessions. It's a lot of months without competing. But as always I've come here to Brazil to try the best possible, to give myself to every moment and then hope that things turn out well".

"I've got to be realistic. I'm not prepared yet to think of titles. I have to live day by day. About this tournament only today I'm going to know the conditions of the court, which I was told is pretty fast, but I'm only going to have an idea when I train and , afterwards, when I play the doubles".

According to the doctors I'm going to be fine and to recover completely, but what worries me is time, because we tennis players, unlike golf players, have a very short time to exercise our profession. I still have pain and limitations in my movements but the doctors tell me that that is normal, so I keep doing everything that is recommended to me to heal as fast as possible".

"(Hard courts) are the most harmful for the ankles, the back, the knees. It's not something that the players say. Doctors say it. But I don't think that we will have a change in my generation. I think the ATP has to think in something that can extend tennis players' careers. I don't imagine footballers playing on cement. I don't imagine practising more aggressive sports, on this kind of surface. I think it's only in tennis where we make this mistake. I don't think it's going to change, but they have to work on it".
