Great article about the lost generation in women's tennis. One thing in common with most of these girls(excluding Nicole) is that they retired because of injury, more specifically, the back. Sad to see their careers' ending and even sadder to think of what they could have accomplised post 2008, after Henin's retirement. Maybe it is best that today girls are taking more time before turning pro to avoid burn out and career ending injuries.

I still haven't gotten over Vaidisova

And wtf @ Chakvetadze being compared to Hingis??? Anna was a brainless ballbasher in every sense of the term. Does...not...compute...

The good thing about Nicole is that she can come back whenever she feels like. She has about 4-5 years of quality tennis left. She's young and healthy, just needs the motivation, although I'm not sure if she ever will come back. Tati has that darn ankylosing spondylosis (back inflammatory disease) that will never go away. Wish there was a cure.. Even though her last match was 5 years ago, I don't think I will ever get over her.

Anna was a wannabe ball basher, never had too much pace on her shots but for some reason thought she had the power of Sharapova.

Chaki wasn't quite Hingis, but I wouldn't call her a ballbasher. She was very good and had some atypical ideas about finishing rallies, and it's really sad that she didn't make it big.

The Chakvetadze I remember would try to smack every ball as flat as she possibly good, particularly toward the 'end' of her career...she also had very poor technique on her groundstrokes and serve imo

I think Nicole is happily married and has no desire to return to the pro tour.

then again, you never know.
