The former world Number 2 Haas against one of the games most devastating hitters of a tennis ball this certainly promises to be a popcorn match, I see John getting through in two tight sets, with John's serve he can beat anyone on any court and he is proving to be the king of the tiebreaker!

Say Haas in 3?. With 2 tiebreakers included. Then you've got Raonic or Querrey.

John loses the first set 6-3 only one break thought!

Amazing start to set 2 from John firing down 3 huge aces!!

Legend
John had hos chances to break and serve for the set but it wasn't to be Haas wins 6-3 6-4

Haas is showing that on a given day he can still play amazing tennis heck last year he beat Federer in Halle now he's taken out John here so amazing effort!

John is getting there slowly but surely whenever you have time out the game it takes time but you get the feeling his best could be just around the corner this must be an ominous thought for the rest of the tour!

So happy to see class prevail and pack the 'Serve Robot' off to Memphis.

The thing is John has a serve which makes him a threat he said it himself last week he littered up the stats sheet but still brought home the W this is why he is feared so much on tour guys know that if they get broken once they are screwed Isner missed his chance in that set set with break point to serve to level the match.

So we really are talking about a ciggarette paper here.

At least the last SAP final isn't a serve dominant match.

Isner vs Querrey/Raonic.....my god.

Haas vs a Server....some different styles....and more entertaining to watch.

Isner will need his old form for IW.....a lot of points to defend.

But if his serve was that good, he wouldn't lose...ever.

His serve at it's best is that good look at the damage he's done v Federer Djokovic and Nadal!

As I say coming back from injury it'd understandable he hasn't quite got the range yet on serve!

Even if it doesn't happen in IW the points to defend are not too much of a worry as he lost first round in Miami so will likely make some big gains there.

Isner should practice on clay for a bit, maybe even move to spain and train there. his movement is very bad.

It would be pretty cool to see Haas win this tournament, especially at his age. The guy can teach these kids that there is more to 'real' tennis than just a serve.

At 6 ft 9 John is never going to move like a djokovc or a Nadal but he likes playing on Clay the slowness of the court means with his devastating power he can hit through a clay court like not many others can!

The fact is he's the only man to ever take Nadal to 5 sets at the French! He's beaten Federer on clay and also taken Djokovic to 5 sets on clay lest we forget!

When your boy loses, claim he's injured. Typical.

Never said he is injured :) but he was in Australia you don't miss a Grand Slam if you are not injured!

My point was after an absence it takes time to find your absolute best!

Physically John is 100% fit I just don't feel he is 100% match fit yet! He will be in a few weeks though I am sure :)

He didn't seem to have trouble finding form against the guys he played before..Maybe, just maybe, Haas is the better player?

Being match fit is about being able to deliver consistently! John hasn't quite got that! Look at Nadal first tournament back he reached the final and lost to a journey man? Nadal is seen by many as the greatest clay courter ever so the reason for his loss was either that a journey man player like Zeballos is better than Nadal! Or that Nadal simply is not match fit yet!

I think most people with any common sense will see the reality of the situation!

It's because Zeballos was the better player that day, just as Haas was today, except, I would put money on Haas most days over Isner.

Zeballos was definitely better than Nadal just as Haas was than Isner today but Isner and Nadal not being match fit played a huge part in both results IMHO

With Nadal, I can believe that, as 7 months off is a long time. But Isner had less time off, and Haas has game, even in the twilight of his career.

Isner has won 3 out of 4 previous matches against Haas! So while you say you would put money on haas more often than not the proof is in the pudding! Credit to Haas today but once back to full match fitness the likes of Haas will be no problem for John frankly he has bigger fish to fry!

Haas is a former world number 2. He's got a silver medal, he's won a masters tournament, and 13 other titles with finals wins over Novak and Federer. Beating Tommy Haas would be an accomplishment, but you're right Isner's got to focus so he can lose first round at the French Open.

Haas is ranked 22 17 places higher than Benneteau who laid the smack down on Federer yesterday

You know you are talking to a MurNadDjokFedhater......don't know who he likes. Beeneteau and Haas are talented players....so no doubt they deserve the win.

You completely ignored the fact that before today Isner had won 3 of their previous 4 matches! Haas is a good player and credit to him for still being up there but Isner once back match fit would beat Haas more often than not as the head to head shows you are saying beating Haas would be an accomplishment, well it is clearly one that John is pretty used to :)

Yes I saw that. We can agree in saying that Fed is Benneteau's chew toy. He beat him on some of the fastest courts around in Bercy 2009 and pushed Fed to 5 at Wimbledon 2012.

So, why isn't Haas ranked ahead of Isner? You aren't going to be a hypocrite and pull out the injury "excuse," are you?

Tommy Haas has had to take an extended break from tennis or end his season early SEVEN TIMES in his career. He has returned to the top 20 on five separate occasions after this, and returned to the top 10 once five years after his first interruption. That was six years ago. He got into the top 20 again last year.

So, to answer your question, yes I think he gets to pull out the injury "excuse" when it comes to his rankings.

Same here. His enthusiasm for someone as unlikely as Isner is pretty funny. I just hope Isner doesn't fall out of the top 30 this year. But who knows? 2013 might be the year of the Big Lumbering Oaf!!!
