So I'm guessing Wilson gut mains Discho Microfibre 16 cross for the win?

I've got a half set of the Discho Microfibre still. The other half set of the Wilson gut will get paired with that, Babolat NvY or the other half set of Ytex. Let me play a few matches with the gut/poly first. I was playing a lot better before all these string tests so I may be done string testing for good. Just kidding...

After 4 sets of gut/poly, I'm still not overly impressed. Will probably try gut/Nvy next just to use up the rest of the gut then get back to full multi jobs or hopefully poly mains with multi crosses.

I've never used an 18g string.

if you did, which one would you be tempted to try ? and would perform the best ? What do you think disadvantages are of 18g multi other than durability ? Do you think the myth about the 18 g being more Powerful than 17 G is true ? or just false statement to sell 18g ?

One thing for sure is if you take the 2012 RSI string data, paste it into a spreadsheet, then sort on gauge, there almost appears to be a proportional relationship between their gauge and stiffness measurements.

you mean thinner the string, less stiff it is ?? wonder why this is. I like stiff multis so perhaps it is bad idea for me to use 18 g. it gives you more feel at net so I have been using it but I may have to go back to 17 G ?

I noticed the local store has been out of Dunlop DNA for over a month now. So I had to ask if they had plans to restock it. I was told that it was so popular, they can't keep it on the shelf.

is this different than Silk ? Silk was a major flop. it was soft but no feel and no power and no control. pretty much worthless string

Hello, Mikeler, thanks for good (great!) thread.
Can I ask you one question - how whould you rate your favorite strings in terms of great slice from any position = reliable slice, that doesnt flow high and can be played without extra preparation (Im slow and have to defend myself with both BH and FH slices alot...)
Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words. I recommend going to post 1 of this thread and then checking out my reviews. If slice is good, I'll note that in my review.

Do you have a button on your computer that asks this question automatically? I imagine there is also an RPM blast button too. :)

DNA is better than X1.

Seriously mike. I am looking into other multis and trying to change from X-1. If you mean it, how is DNA better than X-1, do you think ?

Weiss Cannon Explosiv

I love their Weiss Cannon SilverString. However, I have not tried Explosiv!
Thoughts on it?

Many posters look to multis for comfort after TE/GE. Curious if anyone has used a jr racquet, 25-26" when recovering from the injury? Old school pain management.

I tried it as a cross. Maybe I'll try it as a full bed some day.

I've got a Sponge Bob racket at home that I could try. :)

Mike, one other question. Between Discho and DNA, which string do you think is LESS affected by Weather ?
I really hated the fact that X-1 biphase played and was affected by hot summer weather, It was very annoying to me.

Mike in Orlando,

You are the soul of patience.

I suggest you only answer the intelligent questions from the great unwashed and ignore the rest.

Thanks for the great thread with all your testing.

BTW, what's the best racket, string, and tension for me?

Best wishes,
Dave

Mike, Just bought 2 sets of Mamba Discho Fibers 17 G. will try it out and report. I always hybrid with poly though so not sure if people will still want my report on it ?
These guys don't have a phone number on the website. is there a contact phone just in case problem with order ?

and I still do have a question in that how does Discho or DNA hold up in change in weather ? X-1 does not tolerate hot weather very well.

I'd think with 2 hands on both sides, I'd want an extended length racket like the Pro Kennex 7G to get a little extra reach. I liked Discho Microfibre at 54# in the 7G.

Sure, let us know how it behaves as a cross I'm assuming. Don't worry about problems with the order. They will fix any issues you may happen to run across. I've only used DNA once, so I can't tell you what happens in the heat. The Discho plays just fine in any weather.

Glad you like it. Perhaps I should put that quote in my signature.
