I had a dream I was playing against JoelDali with Golden Eagle as the umpire.

Does that count?

Playing JoalDali is like catching a sasquatch and befriending it. It is a special, rare, rare event that should be cherished forever.

If I can get to Miami this weekend I want to hit with all the NYC guys. Have been wanting to do that for a while. If not, I may have to make a weekend trip up there this summer and just do a barhopping til 4am ritual, tennis in afternoon, repeat, pass out, fly home type of thing.

And somehow write it off as a business trip.

I hit with Granitechief at Indian Wells last year and freaking crushed me 1 and 1. I'm a pretty decent 4.5, so I was impressed.

I started a thread in the Travel section was able to set up a couple hitting sessions with dr325i. The man's got some heat on his serve.

Only if it is friendly

apparently, when somebody loudly proclaim that they can beat up (if they ever played you) on the board, they will not play you when you show up at their doorstep and say hey "back it up".

Sad Sad Sad.

Typical internet behavior.

So yes, I've played with forum members but none where it would be really fun to video tape and show to the rest of the forum "who's the boss"

have looked up players when traveling but some flaked out. not sure why but maybe they didn't want their self rate ntrp jeopardized. wouldn't have mattered to me and my silence can be bought with a round or two at the pub. ;)

joeldali is nyc, the rest of us are lawnguyland. but i digress.

i GOATed with JoelDali once. It was magical.

We didn't do all that bad. Bong (yeah thats his name) is a legendary 4.5 GOAT.

I hadn't played in 5 months and we had epic young Fillipina 4.5 playing next to us and she saw me kiss my Basalt stick at her, she totally caught me blowing her PS 90 kisses. I was totally distracted. And with Jolly on the other court I was completely verklempt.

I had some epic forehands but I could barely serve at all. Except for a few aces. Backhand was a joak. Except for that one epic DTL return pass.

We did ok for never playing together well except that time in the bathroom.

Let me know if you guys wanna come again. They play every Saturday. I'm sure Jolly had fun. Bwagahaha.

4.0 Davis Cup team.

Funniest schit ever.

Next chance at immortality is march 30th AD.

I've played with...most of the TWMAC chapter, Drakulie, Moz, Skunk, Pantera...there are a few MD guys whose handles I don't remember.

Cindy and AQ keep eluding me! But I've stayed at Chateau Angle, and met the King and the Princesses! ;)

Met with dennis10is, Pickle9, J011yroger, (and a non-TT friend of theirs) this morning at Hardy Park. Great guys and quite formidable tennis players. It was lots of fun. Everybody was hitting with everybody. Thanks especially to dennis10is for making it happen following Pickle9's observation that I hit near where they were going to stay during their visit to South Florida to watch the Sony Open.

A couple of weeks ago met and played bukaeast. Great guy ... about my level of play. We split two very close sets.

Have been contacted by tennisfan2k who happens to live in Boca Raton. Have been unable to hit with him because of my illness, but am sure we'll play some time during our local Tennis League Network's Spring Season (If he joins for another season that is. He played in the Winter Season and made the playoffs.)

So far really good experiences meeting and playing fellow forum members.

I hit with suresh some years back. I almost double bageled him, then his friends came to pick him up, so i gifted him a game. I tried to make the last game look as competitive as possible, me being such a nice guy.

That pancake serve of his is quite wicked, although he rarely gets it in. He went away without tipping the ballboy or parking attendant :(

;)

The only time I have gotten ballboys was when I used to hit in Chennai every summer with one of the coaches in the same stadium that the ATP Chennai is held. I used to make it very clear that the money I paid upfront was to cover everything, and nobody should ask for tips. Otherwise it becomes a scam, with each guy claiming that the other is not giving him his share. You got to be very firm when dealing with them.

I think sentinel is one of the disgruntled ballboys.

^ LOL, that reminds me of our friend KSBH (damn, i miss him), who in his epic auto-biography (which would put any Hollywood saga to shame) as a Davis Cup player featured me as a disgruntled autograph seeker.

edit: yep, that happens in everything here. Labourers/workers claim contractors are not paying them wages, so ask you to pay separately.

That guy was classic. I completely believed him. I guess you never fell for it, but to me it was not conceivable how he could not be real or why he would fake it.

I have not mentioned this before, but what happened was that when I was about 16 years old, my parents decided to enroll me in a tennis club (one of 2 in the city). I objected vehemently, because my friends had said it was an expensive and snobbish place. But my parents paid the exorbitant dues for 6 months or so, and got me a wooden racket. I quit after a month precisely due to the problem you mentioned. The "coaches", ballboys, etc. all refused to let me play unless they were tipped separately. As a 16 year old, I carried no money, so essentially I just stood on the court alone tapping some balls. That turned me off tennis for good, till I rediscovered it 9 years ago when taking my son to a summer camp.

Great to meet and hit with you. Our FL trip was the better for it. The courts were much gripped compare to those on Long Island.

I'll try and setup some video too if you don't mind. I've never had footage of myself serving or playing games.

I haven't played a singles league in forever, but have played a lot with friends. I've been playing mostly doubles lately.

If I went into ultimate again, they'd have me play at 3.5-

I have hit a couple times with JRB. Last spring we played a USTA match against one another. My team is the perennial division winner and his team is an up and coming team.

I think he sacrificed his court at court 1 doubles. I was playing with a very good player and he partnered himself with a weaker player.

As it turns out my partner and I won pretty easily but it would have been closer if JRB had his regular partner.

JRB is a going to be an all star playing singles in 4.0 40+ leagues. There are not many dudes that will hang with him at 4.0 40+ singles.

I've hit with Atatu, Rob_C, Shaolin, evw, simon brown, onehandbh, 35ft6, drakulie, edberg505 and another one or two I don’t remember the name.

All the matches were great fun and it was wonderful meeting new hitters, all nice and tough players.

The match with Simon Brown was really fun and I won $50, which we later spent on beer and food. He did a nice account of it here (post #15):

Yeah, you only want to **** him off "just enough"...

Don't worry jagmeister, I feel your pain. I was subject to mikeler's 'drop half volley on break point' shot many times this past fall. I hope to remedy that this spring by not having any break points...

Playing JoalDali is like catching a sasquatch and befriending it. It is a special, rare, rare event that should be cherished forever.

The only thing better is entering into competition beside him. I remember it like yesterday, one of the greatest moments ever brought to me by TW.

J011y subb'd for another team I captain (USTA Corp Ringer League) a few weeks ago and played dubs for the first time together and it was delightfully scrumptious. J011y and I played against a former DIV 1 guy that once had a top 50 ranking a few years ago and a regular 4.0 and beat them 6-0.

During this stunning victory, J011y hit a swinging volley that was probably the single most agressive GOATworthy® gutsy sickening doubles shot I've ever witnessed. As he wielded the J90™ #16 into the air I was dumbfounded that he was taking such an offensively horrifying backswing in a friendly (but very competitive) corporate league match. It was as if he studied the Joker USO swinging volley match point Fed shots and replicated them with about 40% more force with slaughterous intention. My jaw was dropped, which rarely happens on the tennis court. Sure we make ESPN highlight shots once or twice every few sets but this MF shot was terrifying.

For the mixed match, J011y then played with one of my players who is a former Harvard female player and won that match handily as well.

J011y is immortal.

braveheartDM2610_468x309.jpg

It was disgusting.

He definitely displayed some Talk Tennis NTRP 3.5 skills on that one.

It’s a shame I don't have that set on tape. J011y didn't miss one return, was serving huge bombs, and the 2 swinging volleys made me tinkle inside.

We obliterated a solid D1 player and his partner 6-0.

J011y carried the whole set.

It was one of the most memorable doubles sets I've played cuz Mister Jolls has an intriguing competitive fire that not one of my 22 guys that I captain have - not even myself.

I think J011y has a charisma that all of us would die to have. Who else gets discussed and pondered more than anyone else here?

J011y is a rock star and I'm a fan.

He’s the guy that took the challenge while the keyboard cabal of hate sat back and continued to mock and crucify his journey.

He’s the guy that entered a butt load of OPEN tournaments while fighting injuries, maintaining a job and a life, while others sat back and callously rooted for his failure.

He rose up and won, shocking the slanderers into submission. One even ran away never to return or make good on the bet. You can be damn sure J011y would have paid up had he LOST the bet.

J011y's fans far outnumber the bitter keyboard cowards of the forum.

on serve at 5-5 and then lights shut off on the courts.

Will be in Jamaica, near the airport on Sunday (4/7) morning or early afternoon. Anyone up for a hit? Is it warm enough even?

Lemme see.................there's Samster, Bolt, TennisnTN3477, Saram, Drakulie, Jo11y, TonLars, and of course Geoff. I've traded numerous e mails with The Poster Formerly Known as NoBadMojo (currently NBM, I believe), and also hit/played points with a young teaching pro on Amelia Island who told me NoBad was a very good player and also racquet guru. I've spoken to Sup2DResq by phone. From what I hear, Sup is the real deal. I hope he will show his skills off in Nashvegas someday soon. :) Great players and really nice, friendly people one and all!
